2 May 11 Town Hall Meeting for all involved in St. Lucy Faith Formation Programs Over the past 20 years, studies of youth and religion in the United States have shown that religious education of youth that does not include formation of parents has little effect on the religious practice of the youth as they enter adulthood. According to these studies, the single best way to help youth develop an explicit, personal attachment to Jesus Christ is to help their parents become intentional disciples. The Diocese of San Jose is establishing a pilot program with 5 parishes in order to help develop effective family faith formation. St. Lucy was chosen as one of the five, partly because we have a reputation of well organized religious education programs. Our intention is to continue with our existing religious education programs for children and youth and to expand them to include parents. You may have questions about the new plan, so all parishioners who are involved in any of our faith formation programs are invited to a Town Hall meeting led by the two catechetical directors of our diocese, Wendy Sherbert and Lupita Vital on Saturday, May 11, 10:00 am in the parish gym. LifeTeen: Please join us on Sunday, May 5 at 7:15 PM for a celebration for the newly confirmed. Outreach Corner Outreach Office Volunteers Needed - If you wish to help your neighbors in need please call and leave your name and phone number.. We are looking for new people who wish to join the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and minister to the needy, homeless and less fortunate members of our community. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome. Third Sunday Food Collection - Weekend of May Please bring one of the following items to Mass on the weekend of May to help the Society of St. Vincent de Paul stock its pantry for the hungry who come to our Outreach Office: peanut butter, jelly, non-sugary cereal, pasta sauce, tuna fish, 1 lb bags of spaghetti, beans and rice, and hearty soups. We distribute over 50 bags of food per month to those in need. Donate a Car - If you wish to donate an auto to help the needy in our Parish please call: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul National Vehcile Donation Program offers a FREE PICKUP SERVICE. Most cars, boats and RV's, running or not are accepted. DMV and IRS paperwork is done by the Vehicle Donation program. Funds from the program are used by the St Lucy Conference to help the needy with rent and utilities. SVDP OUTREACH NOW OPEN SATURDAYS 10:00 A.M. TO 11:45 A.M. AS FOLLOWS: 5/11, 5/25, 6/8, 6/22, 7/13, 7/27, 8/10 & 8/24. Changes in Parish Staff (from Fr. Kevin) Last December, Sister Andrea Mendoza announced that she will retire from full-time ministry in July, 2013 although she will continue to be involved in St. Lucy s as a parishioner. In February of this year, Janet Ang decided to resign from parish ministry and has just begun a new job in Sonora, although she will continue to participate in some St. Lucy programs as a volunteer (e.g., Bible Camp). We are deeply grateful to Sr. Andrea and Janet for devoted service to our parish, and we will host a farewell pot-luck for them on Saturday, June 15, 6:30 pm. As the Parish prepares to expand our catechetical programs (see the above article May 11 Town Hall Meeting ) to include parents, the parish staff and I decided to develop two new staff positions: Co-directors of Faith Formation (DFF) who would oversee the English and Spanish formation programs for children, teens, and adults. These positions would replace the present positions of Director of Religious Education and Hispanic Catechetical Coordinator. On April 10 a team comprised of staff, parishioners, and the Diocesan Director of Catechetical ministry interviewed six candidates for the new positions and selected Irma Rangel as the new DFF for Spanish ministry. The DFF for English ministry position is still open. Antonio Ojeda will be transitioning from catechetical ministry to assume Sister Andrea s position as Pastoral Associate. Further information will be provided In future Bulletins. Changed topic for Fr. Kevin s May 19 Spirit-Seekers Seminar 4PM-5:45PM in the PAC The original plan for the May 19 seminar was Part II of the final Vatican II document. The new subject matter will be A Spiritual Tune-up for those practicing Christian meditation. Fr. Kevin will discuss how to meditate correctly and how meditation and contemplation connect us more personally with God and help release tension. The material is particularly designed for those who have learned the Jesus Prayer, but all are welcome. Counseling Available at St. Lucy s Because Fr. Kevin is the only priest available during the week until the end of June, he has asked a retired priest, Fr. Joe Gordon to be available on Tuesdays. A retired counselor is also available for counseling on Saturday mornings. If you would like to make an appointment with either, you may call the Parish Office. Soles4Souls Shoe Drive through May 19th Starting April 27th through May 19th, St. Lucy is having a shoe drive in conjunction with Soles4Souls to help those in need throughout America and around the world. Please bring your new or gently used pairs of shoes and place them in the donation boxes located at the entrances of the church. Securing each pair of shoes with either a rubber band or with the shoelaces tied together is very much appreciated. Your donations will bring comfort to recipients worldwide.

3 Reunión para todos que toman parte en los Programas de Formación - 11 de mayo En los últimos 20 años, muchos de los estudios de los jóvenes y la religión en los Estados Unidos han demostrado que la educación religiosa de los jóvenes que no incluye la formación de los padres tiene poco efecto sobre la práctica religiosa de los jóvenes al entrar en la edad adulta. Como la parroquia se esta preparando para extender nuestros programas de catequesis (véa el artículo anterior "Reunión el 11 de mayo") para incluir a los padres, el personal de la parroquia y yo decidimos crear dos puestos nuevos de personal: Co-directores de Formación (DFF), supervisores de los programas de formación religiosa en inglés y español para niños, adolescentes y adultos. Estas posiciones van a sustituir los cargos actuales de Director de Educación Religiosa y Coordinador de Catequesis Hispana. El 10 de abril, un equipo compuesto de personal de la oficina, de feligreses, y el Director Diocesano de Catequesis entrevistó a seis candidatos para los nuevos cargos y selecciono a Irma Rangel como nuevo DFF para el ministerio en español. La posición de DFF de Inglés sigue abierta. Antonio Ojeda cambiara de su puesto catequético para asumir la posición de la Madre Andrea como Asociado Pastoral. Noticias fr la Oficina de Servicios (Outreach) Necesitamos voluntarios: Las personas que estén interesadas en ayudar a sus vecinos o comunidad por favor de llamar a la Oficina de Servicio (Outreach) y dejar su nombre y número de teléfono. Estamos buscando mas personas que quieran ser parte de la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl y su ministerio a los necesitados, a personas sin hogar y a los menos afortunados de nuestra comunidad. Cada Tercer Domingo hay Colección de Comida: El fin de semana del 18 y 19 de mayo, por favor de traer los siguientes artículos de comida a la misa de la 1:00 p.m. para aumentar la despensa de Outreach que provee comida a los mas necesitados que vienen a su oficina,. Por favor de traer: mermelada de cacahuate (peanut butter), cereal sin azúcar, salsa de pasta, atún, 1 libra de espagueti, arroz, frijoles, o sopas saludables. Distribuimos más de 50 bolsas de comida cada mes. Done un Carro: Si quiere donar un carro para ayudar a la Oficina de Servicios de nuestra parroquia por favor de llamar al: La Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl tiene un programa de servicio gratuito de recoger los autos donados. Aceptamos todos tipos de carros, barcos, y RV s, en buena condición o no! La papelería del DMV y el IRS es hecha por el Programa de Donación de Carros. Los fondos del programa son usados por la Conferencia de Santa Lucia para ayudar con la renta y la empresa de servicios públicos. Cambio de Tema de la Platica del 19 de mayo a las 4pm en el PAC El plan original para el 19 de mayo seminario fue la segunda parte del documento final del Vaticano II. El nuevo tema será para afinar su espíritu con la meditación cristiana LIfeTeen: Todos están invitados a celebrar a los recién confirmados el Domingo, 5 de mayo a las 7:15 PM. Consejería Disponible en La Parroquia de Santa Lucia Durante los meses de mayo y junio, el Padre Kevin será el único sacerdote en la parroquia. Por esa razón, el ha invitado a Padre Joe Gordon, un sacerdote jubilado de Morgan Hill, a servir en nuestra parroquia cada martes. Soles4Souls Colecta de zapatos Del 27 de abril hasta el 19 de mayo A partir de 27 de abril hasta el 19 de mayo, la parroquia de Santa Lucia recolectara calzado en conjunción con Soles4Souls para ayudar a las personas necesitadas en todos los Estados Unidos y alrededor del mundo. Favor de traer pares de zapatos nuevos o con poco uso y depositarlos en las cajas de donación ubicados en las entradas de la iglesia. 6 LEADERSHIP NIGHT April 25, 2013 Parish Activity Center Each month, St. Lucy s five leadership commissions Worship, Community, Formation, Outreach and Administration meet for a Leadership Night to pray, plan and serve the community of St. Lucy s Parish. The April Leadership Night was the first presentation of each Commission s proposed new leadership and goals. ADMINISTRATION COMMISSION People: Commission Chair Bob Doherty; Parish Council member Christy Masleid Goals: 1) Improve safety recommendations; 2) Establish a technology committee; and 3) Create an annual HappyMeter survey to monitor the needs and interests of the parish. COMMUNITY LIFE COMMISSION: People: Commission Chairs Jessica Dowling and Jim Ortbal; Parish Council members Jorge Jaramillo and Kristen Salvi (nominated) Goals: 1) Involve at least 25% of parishioners in ministry; 2) Grow parish community events; 3) Promote diocesan young adult program being held at St. Lucy; and 4) Support Strong Catholic Families program. FORMATION COMMISSION: People: Commission Chair Cheryl Jaques; Parish Council member Christina Gutto Goal: Support implementation of Strong Catholic Families program; OUTREACH COMMISSION: People: The Commission is seeking new chairs and parish council representatives Goals: 1) Publicize each of the six outreach ministries over the course of the year; 2) To establish a prayer chain to pray for specific parishioner needs; and 3) Increase the number of committed members of the Outreach Commission. WORSHIP COMMISSION: People: Commission Chairs Joyce Billings and Rita Gray; Parish Council members Gary Orlando and Ani Lopez Goals: 1) Conduct two spiritual enrichment trainings (Sept. 14/Feb. 1) open to all liturgical ministers; and 2) Establish Pope Paul IV Award to recognize ministers who have distinguished themselves by long periods of service. PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: KEY POINTS OF DISCUSSION Budget Report: Third quarter income was nearly 20% above what was anticipated, while expenses were about 10 percent above projected in the same period. May 9 th Special Parish Council Meeting: To review the goals and budget requests of each of the Parish Commissions. Leadership Training: The Parish is investigating leadership/manager skills training for commission and ministry leaders and potential leaders. Parish Council Retreat: Scheduled for August 17 th. Review of Commission Reports: Discussion of next steps regarding leadership of the Outreach Commission. COMISIÓN DE ADORACION: Personal : Presidentes de las Comisiones Joyce Billings y Rita Gray, miembros del Consejo Pastoral Gary Orlando y Annie Lopez Objetivos: 1) Llevar a cabo dos entrenamientos de enriquecimiento espiritual (14 de septiembre/1 de febrero) para todos los ministros de la liturgia, y 2) Establecer el Premio Papa Pablo IV para reconocer a los ministros que se han distinguido por largos periodos de servicio.
