2 St. Charles Parish San Diego / Imperial Beach Page Two FROM THE PASTOR FR. JIM BAHASH The following paragraphs are from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, numbers 654 and 655. They are worth meditating on especially in light of today s celebration of Divine Mercy. We reflect on the incredible mercy of God and just how much he loves us. Enjoy! The Paschal mystery has two aspects: by his death, Christ liberates us from sin; by his Resurrection, he opens for us the way to a new life. This new life is above all justification that reinstates us in God's grace, "so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life." Justification consists in both victory over the death caused by sin and a new participation in grace. It brings about filial adoption so that men become Christ's brethren, as Jesus himself called his disciples after his Resurrection: "Go and tell my brethren." We are brethren not by nature, but by the gift of grace, because that adoptive filiation (sonship) gains us a real share in the life of the only Son, which was fully revealed in his Resurrection. Finally, Christ's Resurrection - and the risen Christ himself is the principle and source of our future resurrection: "Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep... For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive." The risen Christ lives in the hearts of his faithful while they await that fulfillment. In Christ, Christians "have tasted... the powers of the age to come" and their lives are swept up by Christ into the heart of divine life, so that they may "live no longer for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised." After April 1 st it will be $15. The Feast of Divine Mercy Come join your fellow parishioners on , the second Sunday of Easter to celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy. Please plan to attend after the 1:00 PM Mass. We will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by inspirational readings and benediction. Jesus said: "I am offering people a vessel with which they are to keep coming for graces to the fountain of mercy. That vessel is this image with the signature: "Jesus I Trust in You". 5 Page Five Domingo de la Divina Misericordia 12 de Abril de 2015 NOTAS DEL PASTOR PADRE JIM BAHASH Los siguientes párrafos son del Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, números 654 y 655. Son dignos de meditación en especial a la luz de la celebración de hoy de La Divina Misericordia. Reflexionamos sobre la increíble misericordia de Dios y cuánto nos ama. Disfruten! Hay un doble aspecto en el misterio pascual: Cristo, por su muerte nos libera del pecado, por su Resurrección nos abre el acceso a una nueva vida. Esta es, en primer lugar, la justificación que nos devuelve a la gracia de Dios "a fin de que, al igual que Cristo fue resucitado de entre los muertos por la gloria del Padre, así también nosotros vivamos una nueva vida". Consiste en la victoria sobre la muerte y el pecado y en la nueva participación en la gracia. Realiza la adopción filial porque los hombres se convierten en hermanos de Cristo, como Jesús mismo llama a sus discípulos después de su Resurrección: "Id, avisad a mis hermanos". Hermanos no por naturaleza, sino por don de la gracia, porque esta filiación adoptiva confiere una participación real en la vida del Hijo único, la que ha revelado plenamente en su Resurrección. Por último, la Resurrección de Cristo y el propio Cristo resucitado es principio y fuente de nuestra resurrección futura: "Cristo resucitó de entre los muertos como primicias de los que durmieron [...] del mismo modo que en Adán mueren todos, así también todos revivirán en Cristo". En la espera de que esto se realice, Cristo resucitado vive en el corazón de sus fieles. En Él los cristianos "saborean [...] los prodigios del mundo futuro" y su vida es arrastrada por Cristo al seno de la vida divina para que ya no vivan para sí los que viven, sino para aquel que murió y resucitó por ellos".
