Revelation 21:10-11 Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time The Gospel reading of this Sunday begins with Jesus announcement of the destruction of the Temple. For many among the Jews, that event was like an end to the world. After that, some days passed, and then several years, but not yet the end of the world. On top of that, the disciples of Jesus were being persecuted, with there being no sign of progress nor of the glory to come. Before St. Luke came to write down his gospel, the Temple had already been destroyed. Luke then tried to encourage his readers by making Jesus say words of perseverance, words of comfort. In the midst of the worst catastrophes and betrayals, Christ is still present. The apostle Paul understood it well, as he encouraged the Christians of his day not to wait passively for the coming of Christ but rather to take upon themselves, just until the end, the struggles and burdens of their humanity. Jesus is addressing us too when he says: Do not be afraid: all this must happen first, but it is not yet the end;... A future of hope and life exists. Trigésimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario El Evangelio de este Domingo comienza con el anuncio de Jesús de la destrucción del Templo. Para muchos entre ellos los Judíos, este evento era como el fin del mundo. Después de esto pasaron muchos días, y después varios años, pero no llego el fin del mundo. Encima de todo esto los discípulos de Jesús eran perseguidos, sin ver ningún progreso ni la gloria por llegar. Antes de que Lucas escribiera su evangelio, el Templo ya se había destruido. Lucas quiso animar a sus creyentes pidiéndole a Jesús que dijera sus palabras de perseverancia y consuelo. En medio de todo los peores catástrofes y traiciones, Cristo esta siempre presente. Mientras tanto el apóstol Pablo, le animaba a los Cristianos de su día que no esperaran pasiblemente la venida de Cristo, que lucharan, hasta el fin, por los esfuerzos de la humanidad. Jesús también se dirige a nosotros cuando nos dice: No tengan miedo: todo esto debe suceder primero, pero no es el final;.existe un futuro de esperanza y de vida. Trente troisième dimanche du temps ordinaire La lecture évangélique de ce dimanche commence avec l annonce par Jésus de la destruction du Temple. Pour beaucoup de juifs, cet événement a été comme une fin du monde. Depuis, les jours ont passé, puis quelques années, et toujours pas de fin du monde. Plus encore les disci-ples de Jésus sont persécutés, sans signe de progrès, ni de gloire à venir. Avant la rédaction de l Evangile selon saint Luc, le Temple est déjà détruit. Luc tente alors d encourager ses lecteurs en mettant dans la bouche de Jésus des paroles de réconfort: paroles de perseverance. Au milieu des pires catastrophes et trahisons, le Christ demeure présent. L apôtre Paul l avait bien compris alors qu il encourageait les chrétiens de son temps à ne pas attendre passivement la venue du Christ, mais à assumer jusqu au bout les lutes et les fardeaux de leur humanité. C est bien à nous que Jésus s adresse lorsqu il dit: Ne vous effrayez pas: il faut que cela arrive d abord, mais ce ne sera pas tout de suite la fin... Il existe un avenir d espérance et de vie. Before all this happens, however, they will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.

3 2nd COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND CCHD A second collection will be taken at all next weekend s (Nov ) masses for CCHD, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. CCHD was founded to end the cycle of poverty throughout the United States by funding organizations that help individuals to help themselves. Projects CCHD helps to fund include educational improvements, community economic development, and low-income housing. Please give generously next weekend to this worthy cause. MAKING ALL THINGS NEW THE EARLY STAGES Even if you missed the Wed., November 6, Parish Meeting, you are by now probably aware that our Parish, and every other parish throughout the New York Archdiocese, is embarked on a year-long process of self-evaluation and review which will lead to (a) Archdiocesan wide realignment and consolidation of some parishes, especially in Manhattan, and (b) a hoped-for enhancement of evangelization throughout the Archdiocese. This process is called Making All Things New. As required, Msgr. Crimmins appointed a Core Team of laypersons, to wit, Adeline Dupiton, Anita Giscombe, Ed Grimm, Karen Jorgensen, Marie LaMarr and Peter Serritella, to represent us in this process. In December, our Core Team will meet with the core teams of other parishes in our cluster on the West Side to discuss relative strengths and weaknesses and to recommend how collaborations or realignments might happen in the future. These recommendations will go first to an Archdiocesan Advisory Group for their review and final recommendations to Cardinal Dolan for his decision--supposedly in Sept In the first stages, parishes are supposed to evaluate themselves based upon four criteria: sacramental life; evangelization; stewardship and outreach; and effective administration. Parishioners are encouraged to take part in this self-evaluation. That is why the Core Team has prepared and distributed at masses and at the Nov. 6 meeting, forms of Parish Survey. These surveys, or questionnaires, especially the so-called Long Form, are based upon the four Archdiocesan criteria. The results of our surveys, plus a few other documents, will be presented by our Core Team to the other core teams in our cluster during Dec.-Feb. cluster deliberations. DON T SWEAT THOSE MATN PARISH SURVEYS Some parishioners have said that they do not understand or have no opinion about some of the questions raised in our MATN Parish Survey, especially the Long Form. We assure you that the Survey is not a test you do not have to answer every question. Much of the Survey language was suggested by the Archdiocese. If you have no information or opinion about a question, just skip it or write no opinion. Some people may simply find it easier to use the Short Form, and that is fine too. If there are any specific questions about any Survey form or MATN, please phone the Rectory Office. The Office will see that a Core Team member gets back to you. The really important thing is to return those Surveys by Nov.20 in the box at the back of the church. SVDPS CHRISTMAS SALE SUCCESS The Sunday, Nov.10, Christmas Bazaar sponsored here by our parish conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society raised about $2,400 for the Society s charitable work for the poor. The SVDPS members thank all who donated items, purchased items, or helped to work the Bazaar. Please, no new donations of sale items to SVDPS until further notice. Storage space is lacking. $2,400 SEGUNDA COLECTA EL PROXIMO FIN DE SEMANA CCHD Tendremos una segunda colecta la próxima semana (Nov.23-24) durante todas las misas para la Campaña del Desarrollo Humano Católico. Esta organización fue fundada para terminar con el circulo de la pobreza entre todos los países de los Estados Unidos. Esta organización ayudan a individuos. También ayudan con programas de educación, el desarrollo de la comunidad y con viviendas de bajo costo. Por favor sean generosos en sus donaciones. HACIENDO TODAS LAS COSAS NUEVAS PRIMERA ETAPA Aunque si usted no estaba presente en la reunión parroquial el Miércoles 6 de Noviembre, según la información que presentamos usted se ha enterado de todas las actividades que esta ocurriendo en nuestra parroquia y todas las otras parroquias de la Arquidiócesis de Nueva York. VENTA DE PASCUAS DE SVDPS El Bazar de la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul el Domingo 10 de Noviembre fue un gran éxito y la Sociedad recaudo un total de $2,400 para sus obras de caridad. Last Sunday s [11/10] collection amounted to $17,030, thanks in good part to an extremely generous $10,000 parishioner gift for which we are most grateful. We are also grateful to our Legion of Mary devotional group for their recent $200 cash gift to the Parish. For MATN purposes, Effective Administration of a parish includes suggesting and carrying out ways in which parishioner donations might be increased. Is it too much to suggest that each St. Gr. parishioner who can afford it increase his or her weekly donation to $20? This is still way below tithing.
