IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CONFIRMATION, INCLUDING REQUIREMENTS AND DUE DATES THAT MUST BE MET, ARE INCLUDED. THE CANDIDATE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TURNING IN ALL REQUIREMENTS BY THESE DUE DATES. TURN ALL MATERIALS IN TO THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OFFICE IN THE RECTORY OR TO MS. KUSNIERCZYK DIRECTLY. ALL MATERIALS MUST INCLUDE THE CANDIDATE S NAME! These requirements are designed to help you in your development as a Catholic Christian and to guide your spiritual journey toward your Confirmation. Please take them seriously. Parents, help your child complete these requirements by providing support and guidance as necessary. Contact the Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Lynn Jones, at with any questions or concerns about this packet. Please read the packet in its entirety for information concerning meeting dates, retreat dates, and extra information about these requirements. The chart of due dates at the end of this packet is intended to assist the candidate and parents keep track of the items that must be turned in

CONF2018 MEETING AND REGISTRATION: This meeting is mandatory for all students planning to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in Fall The meeting for all students planning to be confirmed in fall 2018 for STM School seventh graders will be Wednesday, November 15, at 7pm in the Cathedral and for CCD Level 8 and high school classes will be Wednesday, December 6, at 7pm in the Cathedral. The Confirmation Registration Form in this packet must be turned in to the Religious Education Office no later than Friday, December 15, BAPTISM CERTIFICATE AND FIRST COMMUNION CERTIFICATE. Both these certificates must be on file with the Religious Education Office no later than Wednesday, February 7, SPONSOR FORM. Every student must choose a sponsor who meets the following requirements: 1) must be 16 years of age or older; 2) must be a baptized, practicing Catholic registered in a Catholic parish; 3) must have received First Communion and Confirmation; 4) must not be the parent of the person being confirmed; 5) must regularly attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days; and 6) if married, must have been married by a Catholic priest or deacon. Your sponsor needs to contact the parish office where they are registered to obtain a sponsor eligibility certificate that MUST BE SIGNED AND SEALED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SPONSOR S PARISH, even if that parish is the Cathedral of St. Thomas More. You may choose a sponsor who may not physically be able to be present the evening of our Confirmation Mass. Notify the Religious Education Office if your sponsor cannot physically attend the Confirmation Mass so we can arrange a proxy for them. The Sponsor Form is due to the Religious Education Office no later than May 16, SAINT REPORT: It is customary for a person being confirmed to choose a saint as a role model or patron. You must research your saint and find a saint with whom you share a connection. Only canonized saints should be chosen. Write a saint report thoughtfully using your own words to explain what you have learned from your research. Use legitimate sources for your research: and are some good websites. DO NOT use Wikipedia or blogs or other non-conforming sites. You may also use books or other published resources for your research. The saint report is due to the Religious Education Office no later than May 16, STM School students should follow Ms. Kusnierczyk s guidance for the due date for this item. 5. SERVICE PARTICIPATION REPORT: You are required to complete 25 service hours with at least five different projects. We will have some group opportunities for works of mercy but you may also find other opportunities with your school or community. You may not count babysitting younger siblings or cousins, washing your uncle s car, or other acts that family members would normally help each other with. Look outside your family for opportunities to help your church, your school, and your community. You will fill out the service participation chart with the details of your service and the signature of your supervisor for the activity, and then your service report should be written neatly and in complete sentences

Confirmación 2018, Reunión y Registración: Esta reunión es mandatorio para todos los estudiantes que recibirán el sacramento de la Confirmación en el otoño La reunión para los estudiantes de STM será el miércoles 15 de noviembre a las 7pm en la Catedral. La reunión para los estudiantes de Catequesis (Nivel 8 y High School) será el miércoles6 de diciembre a las 7pm en la Catedral. El formulario de registración para la Confirmación que esta en este paquete deberá ser entregado a la Oficina de Educación Religiosa el 15 de diciembre de EL Certificado de Bautizo y la Primera Comunión: Ambos certificados deberán estar en nuestros archivos en la oficina de Educación Religiosa antes del miércoles 7 de febrero, La Carta del Padrino o Madrina. Para ser un padrino/madrina debe cumplir los siguientes requisitos: 1) debe ser mayor de 16 años de edad o más; 2) debe ser un Católico bautizado que practica la fe y registrado en una Iglesia Católica; 3) debe haber recibido la Comunión y la Confirmación; 4) no puede ser el padre/madre del estudiante; 5) deben asistir regularmente a Misa los domingo y días santos; 6) si está casado, debe estar casado en la Iglesia Católica. TODAS LAS CARTAS DEBEN SER FIRMADOS Y SELLADOS POR UN REPRESENTANTE DE LA PARROQUIA DONDE ESTE REGISTRADO EL PADRINO/MADRINA-INCLUYENDO LA CATEDRAL DE SAN THOMAS MORO. Usted puede elegir un padrino/madrina que físicamente no pueda estar presente la noche de la Misa de la Confirmación. Por favor notifique a la Oficina de Educación Religiosa si su padrino/madrina no puede asistir físicamente para poder arreglar que alguien lo represente. La carta del Padrino o madrina se debe entregar a la Oficina de Educación Religiosa no más tarde que el 16 de mayo, El Reporte del Santo: Es costumbre que el estudiante que será confirmado escoja a un Santo como modelo o patrón. El estudiante debe investigar sobre un Santo y encontrar a uno con el cual sienta alguna conexión. Sólo los Santos canonizados deben ser escogidos. Tiene que escribir un reporte sobre el Santo usando sus propias palabras para explicar lo que ha aprendido durante su investigación. Utilice fuentes legítimas para su investigación: y son algunos buenos sitios web. NO utilice Wikipedia o blogs u otros sitios no confirmados. También puede usar libros u otras publicaciones para su investigación. El Reporte del Santo se debe entregar a la Oficina de Educación Religiosa no más tardar del 16 de mayo, Los estudiantes de la Escuela STM deben seguir las instrucciones de la Sra. Kusnierczyk. 5. EL REPORTE DE PARTICIPACIÓN DE SERVICIO: Se requiere completar 25 horas de servicio con al menos cinco proyectos diferentes. Tendremos algunas oportunidades en grupo para las obras de misericordia, pero también puede encontrar otras oportunidades con su escuela o comunidad. No se consideran obras de misericordia las siguientes: cuidar a hermanos/as menores o primos, lavar el coche de algún familiar, u otras actividades en que los miembros de la familia se ayudan mutuamente. Busque afuera de su familia por oportunidades de ayudar a tu Iglesia, tu escuela y tu comunidad. Por favor completa el gráfico de las obras de misericordia con los detalles de tu servicio y la firma del supervisor para cada actividad y luego escribe un reporte sobre estas obras en oraciones completas

5 The Service Participation Chart and Report are due to the Religious Education Office no later than May 16, STM School students should follow Ms. Kusnierczyk s guidance for the due date of this requirement. 6. **SUMMER PARTICIPATION HOURS**: All STM and CCD students must complete a minimum of five service participation hours during the summer. These hours can include attendance at summer youth group events and adoration. Summer service hours chart is due on Friday, September 14, MASS SHEETS. All students are required to complete a Mass sheet for every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation. This year, the Mass sheets will be stapled into a journal format. During the school year, STM students will turn their Mass journals in to Ms. K on Tuesdays for grading and return by Thursday. CCD students will bring their Mass journals to every CCD class for grading and recording. 8. SUMMER MASS SHEETS. Students will be given monthly Mass journals that should be turned in to the Religious Education Office on a regular basis. 9. CONFIRMATION RETREAT: TBD October This retreat is mandatory for all students being confirmed in Fall There will be a retreat fee, and more details will follow next summer. The retreat permission slip and fee payment form will be available by September 14, 2018, and will be due Sept. 28, CONFIRMATION REHEARSAL: TBD SUNDAY BEFORE CONFIRMATION, 2:30PM The Confirmation rehearsal is mandatory for all Confirmation candidates and their sponsors. If your sponsor cannot attend rehearsal, a parent may stand in for them. Dress code for Confirmation Rehearsal for Candidates and Sponsors is no jeans, no tennis shoes, business casual. 11. CONFIRMATION MASS: TBD FALL The Confirmation Mass will be in the Cathedral. Candidates and sponsors are required to attend. If your sponsor cannot be at the Confirmation Mass, notify the Religious Education Office as soon as possible so we can arrange a proxy. Dress code for all Candidates, Sponsors, and attendees is dressy. For Confirmation candidates this is a required dress code, and it is recommended for sponsors and attendees. For gentlemen, dress shoes, dress pants, dress shirt and tie, no jacket. (Sponsors/attendees may wear suit jackets.) For ladies, dress or dress pants/skirt with blouse, dress shoes (that you can walk in), nothing low cut, too tight, or revealing. For all candidates, sponsors, and attendees, no jeans and no tennis shoes. All Candidates will wear a solid red robe over their dressy clothes for the Mass. Orders and payment for robes ($15) will be taken at the same time as the payment for the retreat which is due on September 28,

LAS HOJAS DE LA MISA DURANTE EL VERANO: A los estudiantes se les darán diarios de la Misa mensuales que deberán ser entregados a la Oficina de Educación Religiosa regularmente. 9. EL RETIRO DE LA CONFIRMACIÓN: Octubre 2018: Este retiro es mandatorio para todos los estudiantes que se confirmarán en el otoño de El retiro tiene un costo sobre el cual se darán más detalles durante el verano. La hoja de permiso para el retiro y el pago estarán disponible para el 14 de septiembre, 2018 y se entregaran el 28 de septiembre, EL ENSAYO DE LA CONFIRMACIÓN: EL DOMINGO ANTES DE LA MISA DE LA CONFIRMACIÓN, A LAS 2:30 PM: El ensayo de la Confirmación es mandatorio para todos los candidatos de Confirmación y sus padrinos. Si su padrino/madrina no puede asistir al ensayo, un padre puede estar en lugar de el/ella. El código de vestimenta para el Ensayo de Confirmación para los candidatos y padrinos es no jeans o zapatos tenis, por favor ropa semi-formal. 11. LA MISA DE LA CONFIRMACIÓN: EL OTONO DEL 2018: La Misa de la Confirmación será en la Catedral. Los candidatos y los padrinos están obligados a asistir. Si su padrino/madrina no puede estar en la Misa de la Confirmación, notifique a la Oficina de Educación Religiosa tan pronto como sea posible. El código de vestimenta para todos los candidatos, padrinos y asistentes debe ser elegante. Para los candidatos a la Confirmación hay un código de vestimenta requerido y se le recomienda a los padrinos y familiares también. Para los caballeros: zapatos de vestir, pantalones de vestir, camisa de vestir y una corbata, no chaqueta. (Los padrinos y asistentes pueden usar chaquetas de traje.) Para señoritas: vestido o pantalones de vestir/falda con blusa, zapatos de vestir (que pueda caminar), nada corte, demasiado apretado o revelador. Para todos los candidatos, padrinos y asistentes, NO jeans o zapatos de tenis. Todos los candidatos usarán una túnica roja sobre la ropa durante la Misa. La orden y el pago para la túnica ($15) será repartido al mismo tiempo que el pago para el retiro y se deben entregar el 28 de septiembre de

7 PLEASE NOTE: STM School students may turn their materials in to Ms. Kusnierczyk by the due dates. Alternatively, you may bring them to the Religious Education Office in the Rectory. Ms. Kusnierczyk may change the due dates for the Saint Report and the Service Participation Report as she sees fit. All other forms and payments are due by the dates listed here.
