Children from San Juan del Sur will Participate in the VII Nicaraguan Paralympic Games This 21st, 22nd and 23rd of November, children from San Juan del Sur will join over 900 athletes between 7 and 16 years of age from 75 municipalities in Nicaragua for the VII Nicaraguan Paralympic Games 2014 organized by the Association of Parents and Families of Children with Disabilities (Los Pipitos). The event will be held at the Nicaraguan Institute of sports (IND) facilities in Managua; under the motto "Triumphs of Love, Solidarity and Unity". Children will participate in different sport disciplines such as; relay race, sprints, Javelin as well as 5 a side soccer room and swimming events. Also participating will be delegations from other Central American countries such as Honduras and El Salvador. Eat in or take away, fried chicken, fries and all the extras. VOSH - Connecticut will be here in January 2015 (Eye Clinic dates are Monday to Thursday 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th). More details as we get them but VOSH-CT have been holding this clinic every year since 2002 and were here three years before that under the auspices of VOSH-NECO. They will examine about 600 people each day of the 4 day clinic. Each person will get a pair of glasses and some will be referred to clinics for more treatment. The Catholic Church of San Juan del Sur invites everyone to join them this week of Eucharistic and accompany Jesús Sacramentado on a week of visits to various neighborhoods and districts of our town. Eucharistic week ends on Sunday 23rd of November with the Eucharist at 4 pm in the neighborhood Carlos Holmann then a procession back to the main Catholic Church of San Bautista. Válido 1 cupón por cuenta 15 % Descuento National & Regional News Briefs By Kelvin Marshall National Police At a promotion ceremony last week, The Supreme Commander of the National Police; President Daniel Ortega recognized that the collaboration of military and civilian forces in Nicaragua was essential to ensuring that Nicaragua remains the safest country in Central America and one of the safest in all of Latin America. He commended officers for ensuring the highest levels of protection for the citizens of the country and working with the various social programs in Nicaragua. It was also announced last week that 14,000 members of the National Police will receive a 5% pay increase in 2015 and 412 new officers will be trained and integrated into the total strength of the force. The average salary of a police officer is about 5,000 Córdobas or US $190 per month. The National Police was formed in July 1979, almost immediately after the popular revolution. New Offices- Last Thursday Avianca Airlines unveiled their new service center on the first floor of Tower III at the Invercasa Financial Center in Managua. They also announced that the ATR 72 aircraft will be used to cover the San Jose- Managua - San Salvador route with a capacity of 68 passengers, with more leg room, air conditioning, better seating and overall a more comfortable flight. The new service center has 6 service wickets and ample parking outside. Avianca is also ready for the high season and has added the new 68 seat ATR airplane to its fleet. The airline currently offers six daily flights from Nicaragua (3 to El Salvador, 2 to Miami and 1 to San Jose, Costa Rica). Through El Salvador, passengers can connect to 184 weekly flights to various locations. The service center hours are; Monday - Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Sam's Club - The retail giant Walmart, owners of Palí, Maxi Palí and La Union in Nicaragua, will now let you pay your Enacal water bill at those locations. Payment must be made in cash at the cashier and customers will be given proof of payment. The customer must provide the account number of the service (the number which appears on the invoice issued by Enacal). Payment will be registered against the client's account on the same day it was made. Payment for water service can be made at any of the 65 Palí discount stores, 12 Maxi Palí warehouse stores or 8 La Unión supermarkets. All other inquires, such as; payment arrangements, complaints, billing reviews or any other Enacal business must be made at a branch of Enacal. Walmart is hoping to expand the bill payment system to include other basic services. Goat Cheese It may never replace Queso Blanco but thanks to a high demand from foreigners living and visiting Nicaragua (in particular among the Swiss and French), goat cheese producers have found a niche market right here at home. Various producers have sprung up across the country from Masatepe up to Esteli and they were showing their products at the Third Nicaraguan Cheese Fair. The nontraditional buyers are also showing interest such as several restaurants in Managua, Granada and Leon as well as a group of Nicaraguans who buy the cheese in supermarkets. The cheese retails for between 240 Córdobas and 280 Córdobas perpound depending on the type. Security Bill One of the latest businesses sectors to come under scrutiny by the central government is the private security guard sector which includes uniformed guards, mobile patrols, alarm installation and monitoring for the retail, industrial or residential customer. The approximately 160 businesses that provide such services will be licensed on a five year renewal basis after fulfilling the legal requirements and paying all fees. The bill aims to regulate the 21,000 men and women who work in this sector by ensuring proper facilities, training and supervision of staff and use of equipment. The bill suggests that the fees collected for licenses and permits etc. will remain with the "enforcement authority" which will be the National Police through the Public Safety Division. Minimum Wage The Central Sandinista Wo r k e r s ( C e n t r a l S a n d i n i s t a d e Trabajadores or CST by their acronym in Spanish) have fired the first shots in the upcoming minimum wage review with a demand of a 15% increase. The negotiation th doesn't start until December 18, however the workers representative is already basing their claim on the constant cost of living and food price increases. In addition, they will be asking for measures to be put in place to protect the prices of basic necessities such as; rice, beans, sugar, oil, eggs, cheese, bread, chicken and milk.

Felicitó a los oficiales por garantizar los más altos niveles de protección para los ciudadanos del país y por trabajar con los diversos programas sociales en Nicaragua. También se anunció la semana pasada que miembros de la policía nacional recibirán un aumento salarial del 5% en el año 2015 y 412 nuevos oficiales serán entrenados e integrados en la fuerza total de la fuerza. Además, se pedirán medidas para poner en marcha la protección de los precios de alimentos de necesidades básicas tales como; arroz, frijoles, azúcar, aceite, huevos, queso, pan, pollo y leche. María Lourdes Pérez Cuendis, Representative of the Public Defender's Office in the Municipality of San Juan del Sur on November 11th. Pérez said that currently the Public Defender's Office has 42 causes of which 14 are demands for child support and two are divorces and these cases will be dealt with at the local courthouse in San Juan del Sur. At the courthouse in the Rivas district there are four cases of other actions and some 22 causes related to criminal matters since Rivas is the competent court to deal with those matters from San Juan del Sur. The official said that the Office of the Public Defender is located in the main building of the Municipality Council of San Juan del Sur (Alcaldia) and serves the public from 8am to 1pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. This is a free service for criminal and family matters.
