3 Message from fr.rick Dear Friends, This Monday we will once again commemorate the attacks on our country on September 11, 2001 in which thousands of people were killed and many wounded. We will all stop and pray and remember these victims and families throughout the day. I remember that on September 11, 2001 it was very difficult to make a phone call, the trains had stopped running and the bridges were closed. This weekend is a wonderful opportunity to sit with your family and discuss emergency preparations. Unfortunately, another event like Sept 11 could happen again at any time. Please share this with your family and especially children: If there was ever an emergency in our city where trains, busses and bridges are closed and/or where cell phone communication was cut off Saint Bartholomew Parish would open the chapel and Heafey Hall (Ithaca St) for your family to gather or for your children to wait for you to return from your place of work. We will provide food and drinks. This will be a safe and convenient place for your family to meet. The chapel and Heafey Hall would remain open as long as there is a need Let s continue to pray for each other. 4 We urge all parents to register their children in our faith formation program! Classes have already begun. Any child who misses more than 3 classes may need to repeat the year. Therefore, after September 25 we will continue to register children for the program but- they may need to repeat the year. Currently we have about 800 children in the program. This past week our Youth Group at St. Barts came together and continued our journey through Alpha, a series of sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith. We began week 9 by asking ourselves the question, Does God heal today? Each session is designed to look at questions that people may have about faith, and help create conversation. Group members shared their personal views on God healing in current time, they also shared personal encounters with healing. Join St. Bart s Youth Group! Open Gym begins Monday September 11, 6pm - 8pm High School meets 6pm - 8pm every Thursday Middle School meets 6pm - 8pm every Friday PRIMARY DAY All those who are citizens have an obligation to make your voice heard and vote. The process is called Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It s a weekly preparation program that will assist you in your faith formation and prepare you for the sacraments to be received at the Easter Vigil. There are some requirements necessary before entering this program. We will offer two information sessions which will answer all your questions! The sessions will take place Sunday, September 17 after the 10 a.m. Mass (English) and after the 11:30 a.m. Mass (Spanish) in the FAITH FORMATION CENTER For more information, Sr Lucy at x5.
