2 Fifth Sunday of Lent March 18, 2018 Rest in Peace Fr. Luciano Kamienski We received notice from the Salesian Order in Poland of the death of Fr. Luciano. He died in his sleep on Thursday, March 8, Fr. Luciano came here to St. Gerard s in 2006, and we were blessed to have him with us for seven years until he retired in 2013, and returned to his Salesian Community in Poland. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Murió en su sueno el Jueves, 8 de marzo de Padre Luciano vino aquí a San Gerardo en 2006, y tuvimos la bendición de tenerlo con nosotros durante siete años hasta que se retiró en 2013, y regresó a su comunidad Salesiana en Polonia. Concede le Señor el descanso eterno, y deja que la luz perpetua brille en el. Que su alma y las almas de todo los fieles difuntos, por la misericordia de Dios, descanse en paz. Amen. Fast and Abstinence during Lent Abstinence The law of abstinence requires Catholics 14 years of age and over to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent in honor of the Passion of Jesus. Fish and shell fish are permitted. Fasting Fasting requires Catholics from 18 to 60 years of age to reduce the amount of food eaten normally. This means, one meal a day, and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity. Full fasting is obligatory on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The fast is broken by eating between meals and by drinks which could be considered food (milk shakes, etc.) The second collection is for Catholic Relief Services/ Latin Church in America.
