2 Pastor s Message ~ Mensaje del Párroco: GLAD TIDINGS: Pentecost marks the end of the Easter season and turns our focus to the Holy Spirit. Jesus said about himself, quoting the prophet Isaiah (61:1): The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly, to heal the brokenhearted. The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus at his baptism and upon the disciples at Pentecost. The Spirit gave us new life at our baptism and gave us strength to be Christ s followers in confirmation. The Spirit inspires and strengthens us each day to live as disciples. If we trust the promptings of the Spirit, we will always speak and act with faith and truth. Our words or deeds may be just one small seed sown in someone s soul; we sow, then entrust the Holy Spirit to nurture that seed. The Spirit of God is upon us, so share the glad tidings! Living Stewardship Now The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are as follows: wisdom, understanding, counsel (meaning right judgment), fortitude (meaning courage), knowledge, piety (meaning reverence), fear of the Lord (meaning wonder and awe in God s presence). LA BUENA NUEVA: Pentecostés marca el final del tiempo de Pascua y su celebración se enfoca en el Espíritu Santo. Reflections ~ Reflexiones: Gospel: john 20: Some events are so life-changing that we have to keep going back to them in memory to grasp their true meaning. That's how it was with the gospel writers and the resurrection of Jesus. In this reading, John recalls the evening of the first Easter. Jesus appears in the midst of the disciples and gives them his peace. He breathes on them and gives them the breath of the Holy Spirit so that they have the power to forgive sins. As we know from the first reading, the Spirit would be experienced again as fire and a mighty wind at Pentecost. But whatever form the Spirit takes, his gifts are intended to bring unity and peace to the Body of Christ 1.) How would you complete this statement: "To me, peace means..." Describe times when you have experienced peace. When Jesus says "Peace be with you," what do you think he has in mind? 2.) Why is the power to forgive sins so important in the Christian community? What examples have you seen in your family or your parish of people sharing the peace of Christ? For more information please contact Terry Adion at or Ed Yanson at Announcements: PARISH MINISTRY FAIR: The Church is having the second Ministry Fair on the weekend of June 6-7th after all the masses. Tables will be set up in front of the Church to answer questions and collect your completed card from the first Ministry Fair date.. A Commitment Card and Organizations list will be handed out to parishioners who still need them. Some 40 plus Parish organizations will have representatives to answer your questions and/or to help you in deciding how you could fulfill your discipleship/stewardship support. Mission Cultural Center for Latinos Arts: For the 24th consecutive year, the MCCLA will introduce children and youth (ages 6-16), to the various artistic disciplines and local artists in a dynamic and entertaining summer program. Participants will develop handson experience with the use of tools and materials related to the chosen artistic discipline, and will collaborate in a final exhibition/performance, entertaining participants families and the local community. Participants will be pre-assigned to classes according to their area of interest and availability. Some classes to be offered this year include: Yoga, various types of dance, Arts & Crafts, Martial Arts, Theater, Percussion, Fashion Design, Mexican Folk Dance, and more. Lunch will be provided. For your convenience, if you would like to reserve a spot for your child, please pay in advance. For more information please call or at outreach@missionculturalcenter.org. First session starts June 15-July 10. Year of Consecrated Life: In response to the call of Pope Francis who declared 2015 the Year of Consecrated Life, the Archdiocesan Council of Religious is presenting the film, "Women and Spirit" based on the exhibit of the same name which toured throughout the United States. This film chronicles the history of the thousands of Sisters who came to this country and founded the Catholic School system, built hospitals, orphanages, homes for the poor, mental institutions, and many more programs benefitting the poor and marginalized. Following the film, there will be a panel of religious who will speak of their work in the Archdiocese as well as throughout the world and who will inspire each of us to live our baptismal call to discipleship. Pero, qué o quién es el Espíritu Santo? En 1897, el papa León XIII escribió la primera encíclica papal acerca del Espíritu Santo. Llamada Divinum illud munus (Aquel Divino Encargo). En esa encíclica, León XIII explica quién es el Espíritu de Dios y cuál es su función. El Espíritu Santo es la bondad, el amor y la caridad del Padre y del Hijo. Un amor tan fuerte e inmenso que se hace persona y se derrama sobre nosotros. El Papa insiste que si Cristo es la cabeza de la Iglesia, el Espíritu Santo es su alma. El Espíritu de Dios se manifiesta en la Iglesia, perdonando pecados, repartiendo gracia y habitando en el corazón de los fieles. Jesús declara a sus discípulos: Les conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me voy, no vendrá a ustedes el Paráclito; pero si me voy, se los enviaré (Juan 16:7).
