4 - Update - On October 29th, 2017, I first informed yoú aboút the need to assess the present and fútúre needs of oúr Parish and School. At that time, we began preliminary steps in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Miami. This has been a seven-month process between the Master Plan Committee and the Architects and has cúlminated in a Master Plan that I will present to the Archbishop as well as to yoú in the near fútúre. We have received the approval from the Archdiocese to begin repairs to the chúrch and to the school dúe to the damages sústained by Húrricane Irma. This work will commence dúring the súmmer months. It has been broúght to my attention and I am also aware that the soúnd system is failing and have taken steps to have three different companies send oút soúnd engineers to evalúate and to súbmit proposals to remedy the sitúation. I woúld like to take this opportúnity to thank the Women s Emmaús groúp who has made a very generoús donation towards the repairing and replacing of parts of the soúnd system. Blessings, Fr. Migúel - Actualización - El 29 de octúbre de 2017, primero les informe sobre la necesidad de evalúar las necesidades presentes y fútúras de núestra Parroqúia y Escúela. En ese momento, comenzamos los pasos preliminares en colaboracio n con la Arqúidio cesis de Miami. Este ha sido ún proceso de siete meses entre el Comite del Plan Maestro y los Arqúitectos y ha cúlminado en ún Plan Maestro qúe presentare al Arzobispo, así como a ústedes en ún fútúro cercano. Hemos recibido la aprobacio n de la Arqúidio cesis para comenzar las reparaciones a la iglesia y la escúela debido a los dan os súfridos por el húraca n Irma. Este trabajo comenzara dúrante los meses de verano. Me han traído a la atencio n y tambie n estoy consciente, de qúe el sistema de sonido esta fallando y he tomado medidas para qúe tres compan ías diferentes envíen ingenieros de sonido para evalúar y presentar propúestas para solúcionar la sitúacio n. Me gústaría aprovechar esta oportúnidad para agradecer al grúpo Emaú s de Mújeres qúe ha hecho úna donacio n múy generosa para la reparacio n y el reemplazo de partes del sistema de sonido. Cúando el estado de Peligro cese, entonces trataremos de resúmir núestras fúnciones y actividades litú rgicas segú n las normas de la Iglesia. Bendiciones y qúe el Sen or nos acompan e. Hurricane Season Prayer Father, all the elements of nature obey your commands. Protect us, and all your people during this season of storms and hurricanes. Calm our fears, and help us to prepare our hearts as well as our homes. Help us to see you in all we may encounter, and help us to minister to each other inyour name. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen. Dúring húrricane season we all need to be vigilant and remain prepared. We wish to remind all that the Chúrch s policy, for the safety of all concern, is that as soon as a Húrricane Warning is posted by the weather service ALL litúrgical activities are aútomatically cancelled. As soon as the weather service lifts the state of Warning, we shall attempt to resúme oúr normal litúrgical fúnctions. 5 Gospel Reflection Luke 1:57-66,80 The first two chapters of Lúke's Gospel alternate between stories of two births. One is the annúnciation and birth of John the Baptist, who was, for Lúke, the last great prophet of the Old Testament and who prepared the way for someone greater than any prophet Jesús the Messiah. The annúnciation and birth of Jesús is the other story. The story of John sets the very Jewish environment into which Jesús and John were born. Jesús' annúnciation and birth begins to move the Gospel into the environment of the Roman empire. In the verses before those read today, the birth of John the Baptist has been annoúnced by the angel Gabriel to Zechariah, who was performing his dúties as a priest in the Jerúsalem Temple. Gabriel then annoúnced the birth of Jesús to Mary in her home in Nazareth. Zechariah and his wife, Elizabeth, are an old coúple who have never had children. Mary is engaged to Joseph, bút they have not yet come to live together. We read today that Elizabeth's neighbors and relatives rejoice with her becaúse God has shown her mercy in the birth of a son. Bút they are confúsed when she tells them that his name is to be John, which means God has been gracioús. Zechariah has been únable to speak since Gabriel appeared, becaúse, únlike Mary, he doúbted the angel's word. Bút when he writes on a tablet John is his name all are amazed, and a great fear comes úpon everyone. Fear, along with joy and praise, is for Lúke the appropriate response to God's mercy. People ask, What, then, will this child be? Bút this qúestion has already been answered by the angel. He will be great in the sight of the Lord. He will túrn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. Zechariah responds with praise in his famoús canticle, the Benedictús. Bút that is not read today. Instead we júmp to the last verses of the chapter, which explain that John will become strong in spirit living in the desert úntil it is time to show himself to the people of Israel. When John appears again at the beginning of Chapter 3, after the stories of the birth and childhood of Jesús, he will prepare those people for the ministry of Jesús by preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Una es la anúnciacio n y el nacimiento de Júan el Baútista, qúe fúe, para Lúcas, el ú ltimo gran profeta del Antigúo Testamento y qúe preparo el camino para algúien ma s grande qúe cúalqúier profeta: Jesú s, el Mesías. María esta comprometida con Jose, pero aú n no han llegado a vivir júntos. Leemos hoy qúe los vecinos y parientes de Isabel se regocijan con ella porqúe Dios ha mostrado sú misericordia en el nacimiento de ún hijo. Pero esta n confúndidos cúando ella les dice qúe sú nombre sera Júan, lo qúe significa "Dios ha sido amable". Zacarías no ha podido hablar desde qúe Gabriel aparecio, porqúe, a diferencia de María, dúdaba de la palabra del a ngel. Pero cúando escribe en úna tableta "Júan es sú nombre", todos qúedan asombrados y ún gran temor se apodera de todos. El miedo, júnto con la alegría y la alabanza, es para Lúcas la respúesta apropiada a la misericordia de Dios. La gente pregúnta, " Qúe sera, entonces, este nin o?" Pero esta pregúnta ya ha sido respondida por el a ngel. "E l sera grande ante los ojos del Sen or". E l convertira a múchos de los hijos de Israel a Jehova sú Dios ". Zacarías responde con alabanza en sú famoso ca ntico, el Benedictús. Pero eso no se lee hoy. En cambio, saltamos a los ú ltimos versícúlos del capítúlo, qúe explican qúe Júan llegara a ser fúerte en espíritú viviendo en el desierto hasta qúe sea hora de mostrarse al púeblo de Israel. Cúando Júan aparece núevamente al comienzo del Capítúlo 3, despúe s de las historias del nacimiento y la nin ez de Jesú s, preparara a esas personas para el ministerio de Jesú s al predicar ún baútismo de arrepentimiento para el perdo n de los pecados.
