2 Administrator s Corner The Lord is my shepherd. The Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally called Good Shepherd Sunday. In the gospel, we encounter the Good Shepherd, in the person of Jesus himself. He presented himself as the Good shepherd who knows his flock intimately. Jesus used the image of a shepherd to assure us that we can place our confidence in him. The image of a shepherd is very common in Jesus time. People can easily identify themselves with the images of the sheep and the shepherd. The image of a shepherd illustrates tenderness and compassion. The relationship between the sheep and the shepherd is intimate. The two are connected with each other. There is the spectacular degree of love so much so that the shepherd is willing to lay down his life for his sheep. Nobody can demonstrate this love except Jesus. The beauty of Jesus, our Good Shepherd, lies in the love with which he offers his life for each and every one of his sheep, even unto death. He establishes with each one a direct and personal relationship of intense love. In Jesus we discover the Father who cares for us, knows us and loves us, even in our stubbornness and shyness. Also, in the gospel, Jesus spelled the difference between a true shepherd and a hired worker. Unlike the hired one, who works for pay, the good shepherd s life is devoted to the sheep out of pure love. The sheep are far more a responsibility to the good shepherd. They are the objects of the shepherd s love and concern. Thus, the shepherd s devotion to them is completely unselfish. The good shepherd is willing to die for the sheep rather than abandon them. To the hired one, the sheep are merely a commodity, to be watched over only so they can provide people with food and wools. There are those who assume as leaders of people who seem to put more emphasis on their needs than to those entrusted to them. There are those who believe that the people are the means to an end: their pleasure and satisfaction. It seems that these shepherds are first and their sheep, last. The shepherd is the means to ensure the end, which is, the well being of the flock. Sheep are first, shepherds last. As we contemplate Jesus, the Good Shepherd, we are reminded that we too are shepherds who have someone under our care. We call to mind everyone on whom we exercise authority children, elderly parents, coworkers and colleagues, people who ask for help, people who depend on us for material and spiritual needs. Whatever title we bear, the rod and staff we carry must be symbols of dedication, not of domination or oppression. The Fourth Sunday of Easter is also the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Let us not only pray for more vocations in the priesthood and religious life. Let us also invite and inspire young men to answer the call to the priesthood. Let parents and family encourage and motivate their children to become priests and religious. May the gospel challenge us to strive to be a good shepherds today, in the Church and in the world. Please offer a prayer also for our shepherds; Our Pope, cardinals, bishops, priests and religious. Pray for them that they may become like the one and only Good shepherd. El señor es mi pastor. El Cuarto Domingo de Pascua es tradicionalmente llamado "Domingo del Buen Pastor". En el evangelio, nos encontramos con el Buen Pastor, en la persona de Jesús mismo. Se presentó como el Buen Pastor que sabe su ovejas íntimamente. Jesús usó la imagen de un pastor que nos aseguramos que podemos poner nuestra confianza en él. La imagen de un pastor es muy común en los tiempos de Jesús. Las personas pueden fácilmente identificarse con las imagenes de las ovejas y el pastor. La imagen de un pastor ilustra la ternura y la compassion.la relación entre las ovejas y el pastor es íntimo. Los dos están conectados entre sí. Especialmente espectacular es el grado de amor tanto que el pastor está dispuesto a dar su vida por sus ovejas. Nadie puede demostrar este tipo de amor aparte de Jesús. La belleza de Jesús, como nuestro Buen Pastor, se encuentra en el amor con que él ofrece su vida para todas y cada una de sus ovejas, hasta la muerte. Él establece con cada uno una relación directa y personal del amor intenso. En Jesús descubrimos el Padre que cuida de nosotros, nos conoce y nos ama incluso en su obstinación y la timidez. También, en el Evangelio, Jesús habló de la diferencia entre un verdadero pastor y un trabajador contratado. A diferencia del contratado, que trabaja para la paga, la vida del buen pastor se dedica a las ovejas por puro amor. Las ovejas son mucho más una responsabilidad con el buen pastor. Son los objetos de amor y preocupación del pastor. Por lo tanto, la devoción del pastor para ellos es totalmente altruista. El buen pastor está dispuesto a morir por las ovejas en lugar de abandonarlos. Para el contratado, las ovejas no son más que una mercancía, para ser custodiado sólo por lo que pueden ofrecer a las personas con alimentos y lanas. Hay aquellos que asumen como líderes de la gente que parece poner más énfasis en sus necesidades que a las que se les encomendo. Hay quienes creen que la gente es el medio para un fin: su placer y satisfacción. Al parecer estos pastores son los primeros y sus ovejas son los últimos. El pastor es el medio para asegurar el final, que es, el bienestar del rebaño. Las ovejas son primero, pastores son ultimos. Al contemplar a Jesús, el Buen Pastor, nos recuerda que nosotros también somos pastores que tienen personas confiadas a nuestro cuidado. Recordamos a todos en los que ejercen la autoridad los niños, los ancianos padres, compañeros de trabajo y colegas, las personas que solicitan nuestra ayuda, las personas que dependen de nosotros para las necesidades materiales y espirituales. Cualquiera sea el título que llevamos, la vara y el cayado que llevamos deben ser símbolos de dedicación, no de dominación y opresión. El Cuarto Domingo de Pascua es también el día mundial de oración por las vocaciones. Permítanos no sólo oramos por más vocación en el sacerdocio y la vida religiosa. También debemos invitar e inspirar a los jóvenes para responder a la llamada al sacerdocio. Dejen que los padres y familiares animan y motivan a sus hijos a ser sacerdotes y religiosos. Que el Evangelio nos reta a tratar de ser un buen pastor, en la Iglesia y en el mundo. Favor de ofrecer una oración también para nuestros pastores; Nuestro Papa, cardenales, obispos, sacerdotes y religiosos. Oremos por ellos para que puedan llegar a ser como el único Buen Pastor.

We are seeking donors to help with the cost of our Steubenville conference in July. During the weekend conference, teens will enjoy workshops, mass, praise, worship and adoration. It is a great way for teens to develop in their relationship with God while connecting with teens their own age. The cost is $250 per teen. No donation is too big or too small. The Easter backpack project aims to provide less fortunate children in the Philippines with Backpacks, filled with school supplies (Notebooks, writing pads, ball pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, scissors, rulers, paper, glue and other necessities). These filled backpacks will be delivered to children in June for the start of their upcoming school year.
