1 Valverde News This month s theme: Tenacity September 2015 Principal Update Dear Valverde Community: We have had a great first few weeks back at school! Redesign Committee Update The Valverde Redesign Team met for the first time last week to begin writing the redesign plan for the school. The team is made up of a diverse group of staff members and parents. I would like to personally thank all those who are participating. We look forward to updating you as this important work continues. Afterschool Care Valverde currently has before and after school care available. Please contact our office if you are interested in having your child participate. Soccer and LEGO Engineering Start Soon Two or our afterschool programs, Colorado Rapid s Soccer for Success and LEGO Engineering will be starting soon. Please be on the lookout for informational flyers coming home. New Valverde App for Smartphones and Tablets Valverde is excited to have a new app that you can download for free on your smartphone or tablet. This app has lots of useful information and is an easy way to stay in contact with the school. Please visit the Apple App Store or the Android App Store and download the Valverde app today! The Parent Corner Tips of how you can support your child s success at home. Is your morning routine stressful? Do you have a tough time getting your children out of the house and to school on time? 1. It starts the night before. If children (and parents!) don t get enough sleep it s difficult to get a good start in the morning. Bed times: ECE-1 st 8 PM, 2 nd -5 th 8:30-9:00 PM. 2. Be prepared and be a role model! Prepare everything you can the night before: pack backpacks, put out clothes, and set the alarm for one hour before you have to leave the house. Good thing they get breakfast in the classroom! 3. Since children spend the night on their own, they need to reconnect with you in the morning. Make sure you give them plenty of hugs and snuggles the first 5 minutes they wake up, that way they need you less when you are trying to get ready. 4. Include some fun music but keep TVs and Computers off! 5. Have a morning routine where you do everything in the same order every day. If children have a hard time, draw pictures or write a chart that shows each step: Get up, get dressed, make your bed, comb your hair, brush your teeth, put on your shoes and jacket, grab your backpack and off you go with a big HUG!
