Schools from all over Europe will decorate their Christmas Trees with the ornaments the pupils of the Tao school have done. The Primary School of Tao takes part in an exchange project in order to create a European Christmas Tree with handmade ornaments. En el proyecto European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange 2016 participan colegios de diferentes países de Europa. Los alumnos y alumnas realizan e intercambian adornos navideños típicos de su país, así como información acerca de cómo se celebra la Navidad en cada uno de ellos. In the project European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange 2016 schools from different countries all over Europe are participating. They are making and exchanging ornaments that reflect typical aspects of their countries or cultures, along with information on how Christmas is celebrated in their area.

2 Los Reyes Magos, los protagonistas. The Three Wise Man, the stars of the show. Los niños y niñas del cole de Tao han elegido a Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar como representantes de la navidad canaria. The children at our school have chosen Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar as the most representative characters of the Canarian Christmas. Sus Majestades los Reyes Magos de Oriente han sido elegidos, por unanimidad, como el adorno navideño que el CEIP Tao enviará a los 30 colegios que participan en el proyecto European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange Además, los alumnos/as han escrito una carta (en español e inglés) donde explican qué significa y cómo se vive la tradición de los Reyes Magos en España. También han elaborado unas postales navideñas y un reportaje acerca de cómo es la isla de Lanzarote. Un CD con villancicos canarios completa el paquete que se enviará. Their Highnesses, the Three Wise Men from the East have been chosen as the Christmas Ornament that our school will send to the other 30 schools taking part in the project European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange Moreover, the pupils have also written a letter (both in Spanish and English) to explain the meaning of the Three Wise Men tradition in Spain. They have also created Christmas cards and a little magazine with information on the island of Lanzarote. A CD with Christmas Carols will complete the set that will be sent.

3 La Navidad en Tao. Christmas in Tao. Los tradicionales Belenes, una visita obligatoria. The traditional nativity scenes, a must see. Cada año, el CEIP Tao organiza, junto con las familias de los alumnos y alumnas, un recorrido por las casas del pueblo para visitar los Belenes que han construido. Una pequeño enyesque con dulces tradicionales y una parranda navideña encargada de amenizar el ambiente, completan la actividad. Every year, Ceip Tao organizes, along with the student s families, a walk through the village s homes in order to visit the nativity scenes the families have created. The activity is completed with a snack and some traditional folk music. Belenes en las casa de los alumnos/as. Nativity scenes. Enyesque navideño con truchas de batata y turrones. Typical Canarian Sweets: sweet potatoes pasties and nougats. La excursión. The excursion. Ya es una tradición en el colegio de Tao hacer una excursión por algún rincón de la isla cuando se acerca la Navidad. El espíritu navideño inunda las calles y qué mejor manera de verlo que yendo a los Belenes de los pueblos, desayunando un rico chocolate con churros en el bar de toda la vida y disfrutando de una jornada lúdica todos juntos. It s a tradition in the school Tao to go out in order to visit some spot of our island when Christmas gets closer. The Christmas spirit floods the streets and the best way to get into it is to visit the nativity scenes of the different villages, having hot chocolate with churros in the old café and enjoying a day out all together.

4 El cole también se viste de gala por Navidad. The school dresses up for Christmas. Alumnos y familias del CEIP Tao unidos por un mismo fin: una Navidad Reciclada Students and families from the CEIP Tao pursuit the same goal: a recyled Christmas El CEIP Tao participó, en la Navidad del 2015, en el concurso Reciclar es fácil, te apuntas?, en la categoría Una Navidad Reciclada, organizado por Lanzarote Recicla del Excmo. Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote. En este concurso, padres, madres, maestras y niños pusieron en marcha toda su imaginación para crear, con materiales exclusivamente reciclados, una decoración navideña para el Centro. CEIP Tao participated, in the Christmas of 2015 in the contest recycling is easy, are you in? in the category a recycled Christmas, organized by the division Lanzarote recycles of the Island Government. In this contest, parents, teachers and kids used all of their imagination to create, exclusively with recycled materials, the school s Christmas decoration. La experiencia ha sido tan positiva que, en este 2016, repetiremos nuevamente, contribuyendo así a celebrar una Navidad más sostenible. The experience has been so positive that we will be participating again in 2016, helping in this way to the celebration of a more sustainable Christmas.

5 Que vienen los pajes! The pages are coming! Los ayudantes de SS.MM Los Reyes Magos, los pajes reales, llegan a Tao en busca de las cartas de los niños. The helpers of the three wise men, the pages, arrive at Tao in order to collect the kids letter to their majesties. Como cada año, semanas antes de la llegada de Los Reyes Magos, los ayudantes de sus majestades, los pajes reales, acuden al colegio para buscar las cartas que, con tanta ilusión, han escrito los niños y niñas con los juguetes que desean recibir. La tradición dice que aquellos niños que se han portado bien durante todo el año recibirán los regalos, pero si no es así, sólo tendrán carbón, pues Carbonilla, el paje encargado de vigilar a los niños para saber si han sido buenos o traviesos, decidirá si son merecedores de juguetes o de carbón. As every year, weeks before the arrival of the three wise men, their helpers, the royal pages, come to the school to collect the letters full of the kids illusions and wishes of the kids. The tradition says those kids that have behaved well during the year will get presents, but if that s not the case, they will only get coal from Carbonilla, the oage in charge of checking the behavior of the kids and who decides weather the kids deserve the toys or the coal. 6 El colofón final: el festival de Navidad. The final act: The Christmas festival. El festival de Navidad pone punto y final a las celebraciones que, con motivo de la Navidad, se organizan en el CEIP Tao. The Christmas festival will put an end to the celebrations that the school of Tao have planned for this time of year. La actividad más popular entre los miembros de la Comunidad Educativa del colegio de Tao es, sin duda, el festival de Navidad. Padres, madres, abuelos, hermanos y un sinfín de invitados se reúnen en la Sociedad El Fomento de Tao para disfrutar de las actuaciones que los niños y niñas han preparado para la ocasión. Viene siendo tradición que los alumnos hagan una representación teatral de temática navideña, así como que canten un variado repertorio de villancicos canarios, entre los cuales no puede faltar el famoso Siete sobre un mismo mar. Y al final de la velada, llega el momento de compartir y disfrutar de los platos típicos que cada familia se ha encargado de elaborar un auténtico placer para el paladar! The most popular activity among the Educational Community of the Tao School is, doubtlessly, the Christmas show. Parents, grandparents, siblings, and a lot of other guests get together in the social centre El Fomento to enjoy and admire the acts that the kids prepare for the occasion. It is traditional that the pupils perform a play with a Christmas Theme, and also sing Christmas Charols, including everyone's favourite Siete sobre el mismo mar. At the end of the festival, we share and enjoy typical dishes made by all the families. It's a real delight!
