The Holy Father has stated that, in order to receive this Jubilee Indulgence, this passage through a Holy Door must be linked with saying the Profession of Faith, praying for the Holy Father and his intentions, and going to a celebration of the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Today s Gospel can be a bit scary at first-- Wars? Earthquakes? Famine? Persecution? Families turning against each other? None of those sound very good. We need to remember Jesus intentions though-- He isn t telling us about these things to make us feel hopeless and stressed. He is telling us so that we draw closer to God and so that we are prepared. We need to prepare for when Jesus comes again, and it is good to be reminded that we cannot be complacent. It is a good wake up call to turn back to God. Jesus wants to help us, so we need to trust in Him--in Him alone-- and not in earthly things that we think will help us. If we trust Jesus, we strive to follow His teaching and spend more time with Him in prayer and the Sacraments. We trust that He loves us and reaches out to us before we even think to reach out to Him. Discuss what you tend to worry about in life. Give those worries over to God and ask Him to help you to trust in Him-- that He will always take care of you. Traiga el Evangelio a casa! Nos dice para que nos acerquemos a Dios y estemos preparados. Necesitamos preparar para el tiempo en que Jesús viene otra vez y es bueno ser recordados para que nadie sea satisfecho de sí mismo. Es buena llamada para despertarnos y volver a Dios. Jesús nos quiere ayudar, así debemos confiar en Él--solo en Él--y no en cosas de la tierra que pensamos que nos ayudarán. Si confiamos en Jesús, intentamos seguir sus enseñanzas y pasamos más tiempo con Él en oración y en los Sacramentos. Confiamos que Él nos quiere y que nos llama antes de que pensemos en llamar a Él. Discuten las cosas en que suelen preocupar. Den esas preocupaciones a Dios y pregúntenle a ayudarles a confiar en Él-- que Él siempre cuidará de ustedes. Among those veterans are our military chaplains. Five military chaplains, all of them Catholics, have been awarded the Medal of Honor since the Civil War; Fr. Emil Kapaun, Fr. Vincent Capodanno, Fr. Joseph O Callahan, Fr. Charles J. Watters, & Fr. Angelo Liteky. Two of them are on the path to sainthood as their stories of bravery have touched people all over the world over. Their example inspires a new generation of men to be chaplains as well. Four Catholic military chaplains have also been recognized for bravery in the line of duty with United States Navy ships named in their honor.
