4 Este manual te ayudará en tu viaje, a la hora de presentarte, buscar un hotel, pedir la comida, pedir ayuda en la hora de cargar o descargar., etc. En ocasiones pueden surgir imprevistos como una avería, un accidente o que te encuentres mal por lo que puedes necesitar comunicarte con personas cuya lengua no dominas. El objetivo del material no es el aprendizaje de un idioma, sino en dotarte de las estrategias necesarias para desarrollar tus competencias profesionales y sobrevivir en un país extranjero cuya lengua y cultura desconoces. Espero que este manual te sea de gran ayuda en tu vida profesional. 3

8 Unidad 2: Presentarse a sí mismo En esta unidad veremos tres datos básicos para presentarnos o bien para identificar a los demás. Estos datos son el nombre, los apellidos y por último la nacionalidad. Presentarse a uno mismo: 1. Para decir nuestro nombre tenemos dos frases: My first name is (Mi nombre es ) I am (Yo soy ) 2. Para decir nuestro apellido: My surname is (Mi apellido es ) 3. Para la nacionalidad existen tres posibilidades: I m Spanish (Soy español) I am from Spain (Soy de España) I come from Spain (Vengo de España) Para identificar a los demás: 1. Para preguntar por el nombre hay dos posibilidades: What s your name? ( Cuál es tu nombre?) Who are you? ( Quién eres tú?) 2. Para preguntar por el apellido: What s your surname? 3. Para preguntar por la nacionalidad hay tres preguntas: What is your nationality? ( Cuál es tu nacionalidad?) Where are you from? ( De dónde eres?) Where do you come from? ( De dónde vienes?) 7

14 8. Twenty - two 9. Thirty Unidad 4: La hora. En esta unidad aprenderemos a decir y a entender la hora en inglés. Para ello es necesario saber los números y algunos conceptos nuevos. Para decir la hora en inglés siempre debemos empezar con la expresión it s. 1. La hora en punto. Para decir la hora en punto se usa la expresión o clock. Por ejemplo: 7.00 It s seven o clock It s four o clock. 2. Las medias horas. Para decir que son y media se utiliza la expresión half past. Pero aquí se pone primero half past y luego la hora. Ej: 7.30 It s half past seven It s half past four. 3. Cuando pasan minutos de la hora. Cuando pasan minutos de la hora utilizamos la expresión past. Ponemos primero los minutos que pasan y luego la hora. Ej: 7.05 It s five past seven It s ten past four. 13

15 4. Cuando faltan minutos para la hora siguiente. Cuando faltan minutos para la hora siguiente se usa la expresión to. Se ponen los minutos que faltan para la hora siguiente y luego la hora. 17 Unidad 5: Preguntar horarios Ahora que ya sabemos decir la hora, podemos aprender unas frases hechas para preguntar cuándo abren o cierran algunas empresas, bancos,... Primero veremos el nombre de los edificios que nos pueden resultar más útiles: Bank (banco) Factory (fábrica) Company (compañía) Shop (tienda) La frase que utilizaremos para preguntar cuándo abren es: What time does the open? La frase que utilizaremos para preguntar cuándo cierran es: What time does the.close? Las respuestas que nos encontraremos son: It opens at eight o clock. It closes at five o clock. Activity 1. Escucha al profesor y repite las frases. What time does the bank open? It opens at eight o clock. What time does the bank close? It closes at five o clock. Activity 2. Mira los diálogos. Escucha con atención la pronunciación y completa el último. Qué falta? Mira las respuestas al final. Dialogue 1 A: What time does the factory open? B: It opens at seven o clock. 19 Unidad 6: Las fechas, los meses y los números ordinales: En esta unidad aprenderemos a decir los números ordinales, que no sólo valen para decir fechas, sino que también son útiles para las direcciones, como veremos más adelante. Las fechas en inglés se enuncian poniendo el día en números ordinales y luego el mes. 18

También aprenderemos los diferentes términos que se usan para denominar a las calles y, por último, aprenderemos algún nombre más de edificios. Para preguntar por una dirección se pueden utilizar tres frases: Can you tell me the way to...? ( Puedes decirme el camino hacia?) How can I get to? ( Cómo puedo llegar a?) Where is..? ( Dónde está.?) Los nombres de las calles (al lado aparece la abreviatura). Street (St.): Calle Avenue (Ave.): Avenida 29

Primero veamos el vocabulario que utilizaremos. Luego aprenderemos un par de frases que nos serán muy útiles.
