1 Hillview Middle School South Stamy Road Whittier, CA (562) Andrew Alvidrez Principal Adda Nuñez Assistant Principal Title I, Part A School-Level Parent and Family Engagement Policy This policy describes the means for carrying out designated Title I, Part A parent and family engagement requirements pursuant to ESSA Section 1116(c). To involve parents in the Title I, Part A programs, the following practices have been established: At Hillview Middle school, the school convenes an annual meeting to inform parents about the Title I requirements and about the rights of parents to be involved in the Title I program. School site council meetings are scheduled throughout the year to develop and give input on the Title I Parent Involvement Policy and to monitor the Single Plan for Student Achievement. The school offers a flexible number of meetings for Title I parents: after school begins, immediately after school, and at times in the evenings. A parent-teacher organization has also been established. Hillview Middle School convenes an annual meeting to inform parents about Title I, Part A requirements and about the right of parents to be involved in the Title I, Part A program (ESSA Section 1116[c][1]). The annual Title I parent information meeting(s) is held before the end of October. Parents who cannot attend the meeting can access the meeting presentation on school s website. Hillview Middle School offers a flexible number of meetings for Title I, Part A parents, such as meetings in the morning or evening (ESSA Section 1116[c][2]). Meetings are scheduled in the morning and evening. Meetings will be posted 72 hours in advance to provide adequate time for parents to adjust personal and work schedules. Meetings will be advertised through social media, school website, Aeries Communication, and school flyers in a language parents can understand. If needed, childcare can be provided. Hillview Middle School involves parents of Title I, Part A students in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the school s Title I, Part A programs and the Title I, Part A parent involvement policy (ESSA Section 1116[c][3]). The first School Site Council (SSC) meeting of the new school year focuses on our parent involvement policy and Title I Program. Parents are invited to participate in SSC Meetings to discuss Title I policies. The English Learner Advisory Committee will also provide input to the SSC. All notifications regarding the school s Title I program and Title I parent involvement policy will be publically posted at least 72 hours in advance. 1
2 Hillview Middle School provides parents of Title I, Part A students with timely information about Title I, Part A programs (ESSA Section 1116[c)(4][A]). Parents annually receive the Title I Parent Involvement Policy and information on Hillview s Title I Program on or before the Annual Title I Parent Meeting. Information regarding the Title I program will be displayed in the front office throughout the year. Notification of the Annual Title I meeting and the Title I program are advertised through: school website, social media, flyers, Aeries Communication, and announcements. Hillview Middle School provides parents of Title I, Part A students with an explanation of the curriculum used at the school, the assessments used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet (ESSA Section 1116[c][4][B]). The following events/councils below will address the curriculum, assessment, and expectations at the middle school: Back to School Night-Classroom teachers will provide all parents information regarding the curriculum being used to teach CA standards, student expectations, and other vital information. Annual Title I Parent Meeting- meeting will address the curriculum, assessments, proficiency levels, and how Hillview s Title I program addresses the needs of the students who are not meeting the standards. Monthly Coffee with the Principal meetings provide detailed information and explanations of curriculum, assessments, and proficiency levels. School Site Council Meetings provide a forum to review school wide progress and by grade level and student groups. English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) will provide a forum for the parents of English Language Learners to review and give input on the progress of by all students, particularly, English learners and reclassified students. Bi-yearly parent conferences, and meetings upon request, provide detailed feedback on individual student progress, proficiency levels, and assessment data If requested by parents of Title I, Part A students, the school provides opportunities for regular meetings that allow the parents to participate in decisions relating to the education of their children (ESSA Section 1116[c][4][C]). Parents can request meetings with teachers to discuss their child s progress toward academic achievement. Parent-Teacher conferences-held two times throughout the year to discuss their child s progress Coffee with the Principal-Regularly scheduled meetings are held bi-monthly. All parents are encouraged give input or suggestions on the Title I program. Comments or input are noted in the minutes and shared with the advisory committees. School Site Council- Committee members- jointly develop and give input to the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC)-during regularly scheduled meetings, ELAC members give input on the SPSA. Individualized Educational Plan Meetings This School-Level Parent and Family Engagement Policy has been developed jointly with, updated periodically, and agreed on with parents of children participating in Title I, Part A programs, as evidenced by: Input from School Site Council Input from English Language Advisory Committee Input from Title I Planning Committee Input from Parent Survey 2
3 Hillview Middle School School/Student/Parent Compact The philosophy of Hillview Middle School is that families, students, and school staff should work in partnership to help each student reach his/her potential. As partners we agree to the following: As a parent/guardian or family member I will: Talk to my child regularly about the value of education. Make sure that my child attends school every day, on time, and with homework completed. Support the school's discipline and uniform dress code policy Be an active part of monitoring my child's progress in school. Make every effort to attend school events, such as parent-teacher conferences, and Back-to-School Night. Participate in shared decision making with school staff and other families for the benefit of students. Respect the school, staff, students, and families. We will make our child take advantage of the extra time and support the school provides As a student I will: Practice PACK by being Prepared, having a positive Attitude, being Capable and showing Kindness. Participate in class Read 30 minutes every day Give school communications to my family Do my classwork and homework Follow Class and School expectations As a school we will: Communicate high expectations for every student and motivate them to learn. Teach and involve students in classes that are interesting and challenging. Participate in professional development opportunities that improve teaching and learning and support the formation of partnerships with families and the community. Enforce rules equitably and involve students in creating a warm and caring learning environment in the class. Communicate regularly with families about their child's progress in school. Provide assistance to families on what they can do to support their child's learning. Participate in shared decision making with other school staff and families for the benefit of students.
