INSTALLATION OF AN AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM FOR A COMPLEX BUILDING. Author: Juan Carlos Hernández Repilado Director: Enrique Valiente Alonso Collaborating organization: ICAI-Universidad Pontificia Comillas FINAL PROJECT SUMMARY The purpose of this Project is to design the air conditioner and heating system of a complex building located in Sevilla, with a East facing orientation. The building which is going to be conditioned has four floors, that will be conditioned. Inside the others floors which are going to be conditioned there will be rooms like offices, working rooms, waiting rooms The selected system is composed by a water system. It is carried out by four water distribution pipes that provide comfort characteristics which allows individual control of temperatures in different rooms, depending of their needs. Due to the selected system, the installation consists of a chiller that produces cold water and a boiler that produces hot water (both of them with their own pumps for the first and the second circuit), and hundred twenty-five fan coils for each local part of conditioning. There are two cold water pipes and two hot water pipes that will be used to transport in two ways: one is going between the boiler or chiller to the fan coils and the second is for returning. For the air distribution there will be boost ducts which go to the fan coils, the returning ducts and the extraction ducts which are forced from the restrooms to the outside. On the terrace there will be located the chiller, the heater and the air handling unit. This air handling unit consists of a returning fan, a recuperation section, a filter, a cooling coil, a heater coil, and a
humidifier and supply fan. They are placed in that order. This machine must be measured. The fan-coils will be placed in the local, at the false ceilings. The project begins with the measurement of all parameters and the finding of heating transmission coefficients for all the covering system that the building has. After that, we will find the values of the loads that we will have to extinct as well as the whole building load, with the help of Hip Carrier, a special computer software. This will allow us to choose the thermic groups, which are the cooler and heater, that we will have to dimensioned depending also on the power supply that the air conditioning will need. The program will also give us the result of the amount of air that will be boost and returned. Next it is distributed to the networks of pipes and ducts. This distribution would be carried out by the riser and the false ceiling and it would be as easier as well as efficient in building terms. Next it is distributed to the networks of pipes and ducts. This distribution would be carried out by the riser and the false ceiling and it would be as easier as well as efficient in building terms. Then the pipes and the ducts dimensions are calculated by the flow rate which goes through each ducts or pipes by the method of the constant loose of load. Knowing the diameter and the material of the pipes and the ducts, the calculation of pressure looses of the installation are chosen, always in the farthest point of the system, which is in the ground floor. The choice of the pumps is carried out in the case of the water and the elections of the impulsion and return fans in the case of the air, which would be in the air handling.
The choice of the pumps would be carried out for the primary circuit, in which we have to include the loose of load of the chiller, the heater and the valves. And the second circuit would need the loose of load of the fan-coil which is placed on the farthest point, as the valves are. There would be four pumps for cold and hot circuit and for the primary and the second circuit. After that, it would be calculated the expansion tanks which are placed in a closed circuit and permit to absorb the expansion pipes because of the water temperature increases. In the drawings, the flow rate and dimensions of the pipes and ducts are showed, and the process scheme of the installation, the distribution of the networks of pipes and ducts and the chiller and bloiler located.
