Pale Blue NCS S1020-R80B In Mix Trends Spring Summer 2011, Whisper is inspired by the world of smoke and mirrors with a palette of soft colours. The most successful of these has been a pale sky blue which was very much present at Maison & Objet in all sectors, making the leap from smaller accessories and fabrics to larger items like sofas and chairs, a sure sign that industry insiders believe this is a colour, like grey, with great potential for longevity. The perfect encapsulation of this trend is Éléonore Nalet s Serpentine chair, a delicately padded cushion supported by an underlying metal frame in the exact shade of pale blue predicted by Mix. The lightness of this pale blue allows you to go bolder with accent colours. Without being too present, it is more of a blush although at the same time it reads as a colour.this would be a beautiful blue to use with pinks and reds; it would be perfect in upholstery as well. Pale blue is versatile, it can be used in many different rooms, from bedrooms to sitting rooms to living rooms, says US panel member Carl D'Aquino of D AquinoMonaco. 2 de 5 11/01/2012 16:53 Materials Canoe Reach, a private residence on the Brisbane River, Australia by Steendyk Design Studio, has an impressive fifty five thousand litre underground rainwater tank that captures water from the roof and grounds for the garden reticulation system. The residence features natural crossventilation throughout with the use of single-depth rooms. The parasol courtyard roof opens on three sides to expel hot air, and ventilation slots located at the back of the central courtyard ventilate the garage below. The single-pane glazing of the pavilion is tinted and treated to the equivalent of double-insulated glass, and retractable external blinds protect the west-facing façades. The result is a residence that employs architectural detail to define spaces and engages the senses. www.steendyk.com Observer: Colour Focus by Mix magazine Every month we highlight a specific colour micro trend that is making an impact on the mass market. For March we offer a sneak preview of the next issue of Mix magazine (published 11 March) by focusing on the regenerative power of spring green. This fresh, bright and slightly acidic colour was ubiquitous at early shows this year, appearing on everything from bed linen to coloured soaps. Pictured is Flower RE-Design project by Nobuaki Kawahara, which featured spring green moss formed into a sculptural shape. For more information on essential micro trends, Mix is the magazine for you. The striking bottle is housed in a black wooden case embossed with the champagne s royal crest. Each box is lined in velvet and fitted with an engraved name-plate; this is luxury packaging at its most extreme and elitist. www.armanddebrignac.com
3 de 5 11/01/2012 16:53 Trends From America Mark Woodman writes: This season s PrintSource was all about colour. There were lots of brights to bolster up a sagging mood and keep the actual prints upbeat. Of course to counter that, there were strokes of quiet colour that set a reflective mood. But even those colours were simply calm as opposed to depressive. Colour was there; it makes a statement, no matter the value, and it enhances everything it touches. Read more about the colours and patterns at PrintSource in Mix magazine issue 23, published this month. www.globalcolor.co.uk Mix Trends Ember is one of four trends in Mix Trends Autumn Winter 2012/13; here a palette burns brightly in a final blaze of autumnal warmth before darkening into winter. There are already signs of Ember s colours filtering through, take for example Inga Sempé s Ruché bed for Ligne Roset, which features a bold splash of orange to contrast a soft grey. Using a technique borrowed from the car industry Nobody is manufactured from two layers of thermo pressed PET felt; a 100 per cent recyclable material made from used water and soda bottles. The production process neither demands an internal frame, plastic, screws, glue or other reinforcements. www.iconsofdenmark.dk This spring we start our seminar season with Spring Summer 2012 colour trends. Our speakers will be travelling around the world bringing you inspirational presentations on how key colours, shapes, surfaces and materials for the season can be applied to interiors, architecture and product design.
