On Thursday, Sept. 10, we will provide a complimentary dinner at 6:00 pm, followed by a tour and explanation of the church and its adornments. Start now to invite anyone with even a glimmer of interest to come and in an easy and non-threatening way to see what it means to be Catholic. Your going with them will provide them support! Please let the office know so we can plan accordingly. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a faith journey for those desiring to enter the Catholic Church or for those who wish to complete their initiation into the Church. These inquirers include: non-baptized persons, people baptized in another Christian tradition, or those Catholics baptized but never catechized. The Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Are you a baptized Catholic but have not received your First Communion and/or Confirmation? Father Belisle can help develop a plan for you. PRAYER FOR THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS ON THE FAMILY Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God's plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer.

She is a gift to our community! STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK God s gifts and his call are irrevocable. Let us praise God for all his gifts are our call! SECOND COLLECTION TODAY In an ongoing effort to reduce the principal owed on the Christian Education Building and thus reduce the interest payments, we will take a second collection today. Feel free to use the green envelopes in the pews. DISCIPLESHIP MAKER SURVEY When I presented some of the results of St Edward s Survey to my priests group, the comment was that the people were not well formed in their faith which put me on the defensive! But here are the figures although 60% of parishioners pray daily, only about 5% have been to a class or workshop about the Catholic faith, and 3% have been to the retreat, and 6% to a prayer group or bible study. So how can we form people in their faith if they are not willing (or able) to spend some time in reading, study or discussion??? So I am going to drop this hot potato into the Pastoral Council that is in the process of being organized. INSTITUTE 2

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION WHAT S YOUR CATHOLIC IQ? Calumny is the sin of (a) eating too much; (b) eyeing another person lustfully; (c) lying about a person to destroy his or her reputation; (d) having too high an opinion of oneself ARE YOU CALLED TO BE A CATECHIST? We would like to share a quote with you from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. To show great love for God and our neighbor we need not do great things. It is how much we put in the doing, that makes our offering something beautiful for God. Keeping that in mind, we are still looking for a couple more volunteers to complete our Confirmation team and to assist in our Christian Ed program as substitutes and classroom aides. We need people who love our faith and want to pass that on to the future of our church. Please consider giving the gift of your knowledge, time and faith to our youth. HEAL A HURTING MARRIAGE THROUGH RETROUVAILLE The Retrouvaille (pronounced retro-vī) marriagesaving program is featured in the latest edition of Northwest Catholic magazine in an article titled, Healing a Hurting Marriage by Sarah Bartel, http://www.nwcatholic.org/living/marriageparenting/healing-a-hurting-marriage. For confidential information about, or to register for the upcoming Retrouvaille program beginning Sept 18-20, 2015 call 360-671-6479 or visit our website at www.helpourmarriage.com. MANNERS IN CHURCH During the summer when we have space in the bulletin I propose adding some mild hints on good behavior in the presence of our Lord. If there are others items you feel should be included, e-mail me at belisle@hctc.com. Good manners reflect something from inside ; an innate sense of consideration for others and respect for self. (Emily Post) Fr. Ron Belisle Someone cuts in front of you in line at the coffee hour. Be kind. Don't forget to point out the good volunteers who put on the coffee hour and remember the loaves and the fish: there's always more than enough. The Priest ignores you at coffee hour Don't take it personally. A pastor's head is spinning with all the information that's given to her/him at coffee hour. She/he's probably totally disoriented! You observe children yelling and running up and down the church aisles. Thank God that you have children in the church! You might gently explain what it means to be respectful of holy space. A reference in the sermon hurts you It is insensitive of your experience. Don't nurse your anger or presume that harm was intended. Make an appointment to share your perspective with the priest; he/she needs to know what you're thinking. You hear destructive gossip while working in the kitchen. The Bible had harsh and direct words to say about gossip. Insist that the gossip stop and that people talk directly to those with whom they disagree. He didn t say a thing! You are incensed because your pastor failed to mention Veteran's Day/Mother's Day/Memorial Day during worship. Pastors tend to focus on the Christian year. Consider that it is not possible or even appropriate to recognize every secular holiday in church. The Main Battlefield in the Church You enter the holy of holies (the church kitchen) to cook and discover that the previous group left dirty counters, sticky floors and food remains in the sink. First, take a deep breath. Second, if someone is designated to oversee the kitchen, contact the office with your concerns. Third, encourage the council to develop a kitchen use policy to ensure that the kitchen is always left spotless for the next group. 7 PRO-LIFE NEWS Priests for Life has helped expose to the public that Planned Parenthood, in violation of the law, is selling the body parts of aborted babies. You can help bring this to an end. Please go to the website www.babybodyparts.com, where you can see the videos that have revealed this, can join a prayer campaign about it, and can take action so that Congress can stop your tax dollars from funding these activities. All parishioners are asked to avoid giving any support whatsoever to Planned Parenthood. A coalition of religious and pro-life groups have announced that from August 22-29, 2015, they will lead a Week of Prayer to End the Evils of Planned Parenthood. There are several prayers to utilize during this week on the website ww.priestsforlife.org. These prayers include the intentions of repentance for our nation, an end to the killing of children and the selling of their body parts, healing for those wounded by abortion, conversion of abortionists, and strength and perseverance for pro-life activists. PRAYER FOR PRO-LIFE ADVOCATES Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, You have filled us with your Holy Spirit, Who is our advocate in the heavens And you have made us advocates For the weakest of all, the unborn. Your Son has promised us That we will be hated on account of his Name And persecuted for the good that we do. We ask you today to bless All of us who are advocates for life. Bless every facet and activity Of the pro-life movement, And grant us strength And perseverance in this cause, No matter what the obstacles. Bless all those who have assisted In the effort to expose Planned Parenthood, Through projects in the past And in the present. Give them, and all of us who work in this great movement, The protection of your Providence And the peace and joy That come only from you, And that nobody can take from us. We pray in the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen. --Rev.
