2 As we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord this weekend, it signals the end of the Christmas Season. It is the time we finish taking down the Christmas tree, the Christmas crèche, and the Christmas decorations that have adorned our homes for the last few weeks. Yet, one of the things we cannot put away is the infant born over two thousand years ago who remains with us today! This celebration serves as a reminder that Jesus who after being baptized begins His mission to spread the Good News remains with us today and invites us to live our baptism and follow His example of spreading the Good News. And what a great opportunity we have as we begin the New Year to renew our own baptismal promises by taking up the mission of spreading the Good News of God s love to those in whom we encounter. I think 2015 promises to be a great year here at St. Francis of Assisi as we together as a faith community work to carry out this mission, especially as we celebrate our 75 th Anniversary. While there is much work to be done and it will take each of us doing our part in fulfilling this important mission entrusted to us by Jesus Himself, with God s assistance we can do it! This year we will have a great number of events and activities to help us carry out the mission of spreading the Good News to all and to celebrate this important milestone for our community. I invite you to take opportunities to join us in the many events we have prepared for this year; from Word and Worship, evangelizations retreats, Lenten missions, our St. Valentine s Gala, and many other events, all of which will make this new year to be a grace filled one for our community. 3 J[nu[ry 11th, 2015 Th_ \[ptism of th_ Lor^ Rachel s Vineyard Post Abortion Healing Weekend Retreat March 20th March 22nd RVTemecula@verizon.net (951) Rachel s Vineyard weekend retreats are a beautiful opportunity for any woman or man who has struggled with the emotional or spiritual pain of an abortion. During the weekend, we gather as the suffering Body of Christ and minister to each other in His name. We share spiritual exercises, which help work through repressed grief and anger and many rituals to help you grieve the loss of your unborn child and accept God s forgiveness. This retreat is presented in the Catholic tradition. I was terrified to take the first step forward and participate in Rachel s Vineyard. It seemed safer to remain hiding in the darkness, keeping the pain locked up deep inside rather than to risk exposing my shame to another soul. Now I am grateful to have experienced God s healing and forgiveness with other women in an atmosphere of complete acceptance and trust. Rachel s Vineyard has been a blessing to me. The retreat and registration are strictly private. All inquiries will be answered confidentially. This healing model was designed by Theresa Karminski Burke, Ph.D. Dr. Burke is the founder of the Center for Post Abortion Healing and Rachel s Vineyard Ministries. She has lectured and trained professionals nationally on the subject of Post Abortion Trauma and Healing. Beginning Wednesday, November 12, through April 30, 2015 Senior Connections lunches will be served every Wednesday at 11:30 in Ullman Hall via a gourmet food truck. Each meal will only cost of $2.00 and will include hot meal choices, fresh fruit, vegetables, drinks and snacks. Participants will have the opportunity to sign up on-site for Cal-Fresh, the state food card nutrition program to cover the $2.00 cost of the meals and receive help with on-going nutrition needs. 7 Al celebrar el Bautismo del Señor este fin de semana, esto señala el final de la temporada de Navidad. Es cuando guardamos los adornos navideños, el pesebre de Navidad y las decoraciones que han adornado nuestras casas durante las últimas semanas. Sin embargo, una de las cosas que no podemos guardar es el bebe que nació hace más de dos mil años, que permanece con nosotros hasta ahora! Esta celebración es un recordatorio de que Jesús, después de que fue bautizado comenzó su misión difundiendo la Buena Nueva que permanece con nosotros hoy y nos impulsa a vivir nuestro propio bautismo, seguir el ejemplo de Jesús y difundir las buenas noticias. Y tenemos la gran oportunidad de comenzar el año nuevo renovando nuestras promesas bautismales, tomando la responsabilidad de difundir la Buena Nueva y compartiendo el amor de Dios a todos aquellos que nos encontramos. Creo que el año 2015 será un año muy prometedor aquí en nuestra parroquia de San Francisco de Asís, ya que unidos llevamos a cabo la misión de difundir la fe en nuestra comunidad especialmente este año en el que celebramos nuestro 75avo aniversario. A pesar de que hay mucho trabajo que hacer, es necesario que cada uno de nosotros participemos cumpliendo nuestra responsabilidad de lograr esta tarea importante que Dios nos ha confiado personalmente, estamos conscientes de que con la ayuda de Dios lo podremos lograr! Es lo que expresó en la catequesis durante la Audiencia General en la Plaza de San Pedro. El Pontífice aseguró que la gran misión de la familia es hacer lugar a Jesús que viene, recibir a Jesús en la familia, en la persona de los hijos, del marido, de la esposa, de los abuelos, porque Jesús está allí. Recibirlo allí, para que crezca espiritualmente en esa familia. Ya en la semana pasada, el Pontífice explicó que a partir de ahora, todas las audiencias generales las dedicaría a hablar de la familia. Un don que el Señor hizo al mundo desde el principio y que Jesús ha confirmado y sellado en su Evangelio. Para hablar de la familia, en esta ocasión tomó como modelo el nacimiento de Jesús en Belén, que se celebrará dentro de una semana. El Papa aseguró que, al igual que sucedió en Nazaret con la vida de Jesús, también en la de cada persona se puede hacer que se transforme en normal el amor y no el odio, hacer que se transforme común la mutua ayuda, no la indiferencia o la enemistad. Aprovechó la catequesis para dar algunos consejos a las familias cristianas: acoger a Jesús, escucharlo, hablar con Él, custodiarlo, protegerlo, crecer con Él; y así mejorar el mundo. El Santo Padre invitó también a hacer espacio en nuestro corazón y en nuestras jornadas al Señor, como lo hicieron también María y José. Pero no fue fácil: cuántas dificultades tuvieron que superar! No era una familia fingida, no era una familia irreal. La familia de Nazaret nos compromete a redescubrir la vocación y la misión de la familia, da toda familia. El Papa dijo luego que la encarnación del Hijo de Dios abre un nuevo inicio en la historia universal del hombre y de la mujer. Y este nuevo inicio acaece en el seno de una familia, en Nazaret. Jesús nació en una familia. Él podía venir espectacularmente, o como un guerrero, un emperador No, no. Viene como un hijo de familia, en una familia. Esto es importante: mirar en el pesebre esta escena tan bella. Subrayó asimismo que Dios ha elegido nacer en una familia humana, que ha formado Él mismo. La ha formado en un apartado pueblo de la periferia del Imperio Romano. No en Roma, donde estaba la ciudad capital del Imperio, no en una gran ciudad, sino en una periferia casi invisible, o mejor dicho, más bien de mala fama. Francisco recordó que Jesús permaneció en esa periferia por más de treinta años, tal y como cuenta el evangelista San Lucas. 'Jesús iba creciendo en sabiduría, en estatura y en gracia, delante de Dios y de los hombres'. No se habla de milagros o curaciones, de predicaciones no hizo ninguna en aquel tiempo no se habla de predicaciones, de muchedumbres que se aglomeran; en Nazaret todo parece suceder 'normalmente', según las costumbres de una pía y trabajadora familia israelí. El Pontífice reflexionó sobre los 30 años que pasó Jesús en Nazaret: los caminos de Dios son misteriosos. Pero aquello era importante, allí estaba la familia! Y eso no era un desperdicio, eh! Eran grandes santos: María, la mujer más santa, inmaculada, y José, el hombre más justo. La familia. El Papa explicó que los Evangelios no hablan nada de la adolescencia de Jesús y dejan esta labor a nuestra afectuosa meditación. La Virgen María y San José son dos ejemplos para la familia, para padres y madres: Cuánto las mamás podrían aprender de los cuidados de María por el hijo! Y cuánto los papás podrían ganar del ejemplo de José, hombre justo, que dedicó su vida a sostener y a defender el niño y la esposa su familia en los momentos difíciles! Los jóvenes también podrían ser alentados por Jesús adolescente a comprender la necesidad y la belleza de cultivar su vocación más profunda y de soñar a lo grande!
