1 US Embassy Tegucigalpa, Honduras Immigrant Visa Interview Instructions Congratulations on your approved immigrant petition. We look forward to meeting with you in person and helping you with the procedures to obtain an immigrant visa. It is very important for you to be well prepared for the interview and to have all of your documents. You must bring the originals of the following documents to the visa interview. Please see notes for details. Required Documents Ready? Passport valid for at least six months One passport photo Please see attached sheet Birth certificates in Forma Literal of both the applicants and the petitioner (or biological parent if the petitioner is the step-parent). Original marriage certificates in Forma Literal Divorce decrees from the court in Forma Literal Form DS- 230 Part I and II Affidavit of Support*, I-864, from the petitioner with all documents including tax return from the last year. Affidavit of Support from a joint sponsor, if necessary, with all documents Evidence of your relationship such as photos from the past of the applicant and petitioner together. If the petitioner is a step-parent, such evidence should include photos from the past of: 1) the applicant and the biological parent together and 2) the biological parent and the petitioner together. If the applicant s children are also applying, photos from the past of the applicant and his/her children are also required. Results of your medical exam Processing fee of $380, or the equivalent in Lempiras, for each applicant Police certificate *Affidavit of Support not required if submitted within the last year to the National Visa Center. Please make sure that the income taxes for the last year are brought to the interview if they were not sent to the NVC. Note that no one can assure you in advance that the visa will be issued. The approved immigrant petition does not mean that a visa will automatically be issued. An approved immigrant visa petition signifies that the applicant has demonstrated a relationship with an American citizen or legal permanent resident that qualifies the applicant to apply for an immigrant visa. It is the purpose of the visa interview to determine whether the applicant is eligible under US federal law to receive the visa. Please do not make plans to depart Honduras or buy plane tickets before your visa is issued. If you receive a visa, you will have six months to travel to the US. 2 1. Passports: Please make sure that there are no errors in your passport: check your name, date of birth, or marital status, etc. 2. Photos: See the attached page. 3. Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates: All Honduran birth, death or marriage certificate must be originals issued by the Registro Nacional de las Personas (civil registry) in the long format known as the forma literal. Please do not bring the short forms of any of these documents because this will delay your case. Birth certificates are required for all applicants, the petitioner, and, in the case of step-relationships, the biological parent of the applicant. Note that original documents (whether Honduran or American) are required. If you wish to keep the original, please bring the original along with a copy and the original will be returned to you during the interview. 4. Divorce decree: If you, your petitioner, or your biological parent were divorced, you must bring an original, certified copy of the divorce decree in long form from the US or Honduran court. If you wish to keep the original please bring a copy as well. Decrees issued in other countries must be certified as authentic by the American Embassy in that country. 5. Form DS-230 Part I and II: Complete both parts - All questions must be completed. Each applicant must complete these forms. Please do not sign them. 6. I-864 Affidavit of Support: The Affidavit of Support from your petitioner must have been signed within the last six months. You must also include a copy of the petitioner s tax from the last year (both 1040 and W2s), an employment verification letter, and a copy of your petitioner s passport or legal permanent residence card. The I864 form is available online at 7. Evidence of your relationship with the petitioner and between family members: You should be prepared to provide evidence, in addition to your birth or marriage certificate, of your relationship with the petitioner. Such evidence includes photos of the applicant and petitioner together in the past. In the case of step-relationships, the evidence should include photos from the past of: 1) the applicant and biological parent together and 2) the biological parent and the petitioner together. If the applicant s children are also applying, photos from the past of the applicant with his/her children are also required. Please see the attached sheet for other examples of evidence of relationship. 8. Medical Exam: Please see attached page. 9. Fees: If your petitioner did not pay the fee in the United States, you must pay in cash the fee of $380 in US dollars or Lempiras at the Consulate for each applicant. There are no refunds of the visa application fee. 10. Police Certificate: The police certificate for the country of nationality, the country of the applicant s residence at the time of visa interview, and for any other country in which the applicant has resided for one year or more. 3 EVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP Unfortunately, many documents from the Civil Registry, such as marriage and birth certificates, are unreliable. Therefore, we need additional evidence of your relationship with the person who filed the petition for you. We are far more likely to issue your visa on the day of the interview if you bring us evidence of this relationship. While it is not required, it is helpful to have both the petitioner and beneficiary at the interview. Examples of evidence of relationship include the originals of the following documents: If your petition is based upon a MARRIAGE or FIANCE relationship: Birth certificates of children you have together Photos of you and your spouse/fiance Photos of your marriage ceremony Receipts from money sent to you by your spouse/fiance Letters exchanged between you and your spouse/ fiancé If your petition is based upon a PARENT/CHILD or SIBLING relationship (With the petitioner or the biological parent in the case of a step-relationship). This is really helpful for your case. Family photos with applicant and petitioner, especially before the petitioner left Honduras The yellow birth registration card issued when the birth was registered Letters exchanged between applicant and petitioner Vaccination/growth certificate Anything else you think might be helpful. Remember, we want to work with you to help you to start your new life in the United States. DNA EXAM In some cases, we may suggest to you that you undergo a DNA test to prove your relationship to the petitioner. This is most common when a birth certificate has a late registration, a late recognition of a child, or the name on the birth certificate has been changed. However, DNA may also be suggested when the applicant has no other proof of relationship with the petitioner. DNA Genetic testing can be helpful to prove biological relationships. The laboratory that does the test must be approved by AABB ( In the case of a step-relationship with the petitioner, the DNA test should be with the biological parent. Only the panel physicians listed on the next page are qualified to collect DNA samples here in Honduras. The petitioner should contact the lab in the U.S. to obtain complete information on procedures and payment. Then, one of the medical doctors should be contacted to make an appointment to collect the DNA samples. The approximate cost is $ or Lempiras equivalent. 4 INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL EXAMINATION Every person who applies for an immigrant visa, including children of any age, must undergo a medical examination and must pay the total cost of the examination. Please select one of the doctors from the list below. He or she will inform you which laboratory tests are required. U.S. law also requires certain vaccinations, so take your current vaccination card to the doctor s office. Please note that medical examinations take at least one entire day. Each applicant must present his or her passport to the examining physician. Honduran law requires that your passport reflect your correct civil status and correct last names. Please be sure this is done before your medical appointment! Once your medical examinations is completed, the results are valid for one year, which means that you need to finish the process and travel before they expire; otherwise, you will have to do the exam again. Esperamos escuchar de usted pronto y ayudarle con el proceso de obtener una visa de residencia. Es muy importante que se prepare para su entrevista y que tenga todos los documentos necesarios. La petición aprobada por el Departamento de Seguridad Interna (DHS) no significa que su visa será otorgada automáticamente. Una petición aprobada significa que el aplicante ha demostrado una relación apropiada con el ciudadano americano o Residente y que esto califica al aplicante para solicitar una visa de residencia. El propósito de la entrevista es verificar si el aplicante es elegible o no para recibir una visa de acuerdo a las leyes de los Estados Unidos. 6 1. Pasaporte: Por favor asegurarse de que su pasaporte no tiene errores en su nombre, fecha de nacimiento, su estado civil, etc. 2. Fotos: Ver hoja adjunta. 3. Partida de Nacimiento, Certificados de Nacimiento/Defunción/ Matrimonio: Para todas las personas nacidos en Honduras, los certificados de nacimiento, defunción y matrimonio, deben ser en forma original y debe ser emitida por la oficina del Registro Nacional de las Personas (Registro Civil) en la forma larga conocida como forma literal. Por favor, no presente las formas cortas de ninguno de estos documentos porque esto demorará su proceso. Se requieren las partidas de nacimiento de todo los aplicantes, el peticionario, y en el caso del padrastro, la del padre biológico. 4. Decreto de Divorcio: Si usted, el peticionario o sus padres biológicos están divorciados, deberá presentar copia certificada del acta de divorcio del juzgado en forma larga de la Corte o Juzgado en Honduras o en los Estados Unidos. Decretos de divorcios emitidos en otros países deberán ser autenticados por la Embajada Americana en ese país. 5. Formulario DS-230 Parte I y II: Complete ambas partes Conteste todas las preguntas en los formularios. Cada aplicante debe de completar estas formas. 6. Carta de Sostenimiento (Forma I-864): Este formulario y la documentación suplementaria debe ser firmada por la persona que le lleno sus documentos y deberá tener una validez mínima de seis meses. Necesita también copia del último año del impuesto del peticionario (ambos 1040 y W2s), una carta del trabajo, y una copia del pasaporte estadounidense o tarjeta de residencia del peticionario. El formulario I-864 está disponible en el Internet a la pagina 7. Prueba de relación con el peticionario y entre los miembros de su familia: Usted deberá de prepararse para presentar prueba de relación, además de su partida de nacimiento y el certificado de matrimonio. Esta prueba incluye fotos del aplicante junto con el peticionario en el pasado. En el caso de una madrastra o padrastro, la prueba debe incluir fotos del pasado de: 1) el aplicante junto con el padre biológico y 2) el padre biológico junto con el peticionario. Si los hijos del aplicante están incluidos en la solicitud, se requieren fotos de los años anteriores del aplicante junto con los hijos. Ver abajo otros ejemplos de prueba de relación. 8. Examen Médico: Por favor lea las instrucciones especiales. 9. Costos: Si el peticionario no ha efectuado el pago en los Estados Unidos, usted deberá de pagar en la Embajada Americana, la suma de $380 dólares o su equivalente en lempiras por cada aplicante. Este pago no es reembolsable. 10. Certificado de Antecedentes Policiales. Certificado de antecedentes policiales del país de origen del aplicante y del país a donde tenga fijada su residencia al momento de aplicar para la visa, y de cualquier otro país en donde el aplicante haya vivido por un año o más de un año. No es requerido para menores de 16 años. Si el aplicante es hondureño deberá ser de la Dirección General de Investigación Criminal (DGIC).

7 PRUEBAS DE RELACIÓN Desafortunadamente, algunos documentos que presentan los aplicantes al momento de la entrevista como ser certificados de matrimonio y nacimiento, no son confiables. Por lo que, se necesita evidencia adicional con el fin de procesar su aplicación para una visa de inmigrante, por favor presente prueba convincente de relación entre usted y su cónyuge. Aunque no es un requisito, es recomendable que tanto el peticionario como el beneficiario estén presentes durante la entrevista. Presente cualquier documento en original que usted considere necesario para establecer dicha relación. Algunos ejemplos se incluyen: Si su petición es basada en una relación de MATRIMONIO: Certificados de nacimiento de hijos dentro del matrimonio Fotografías de usted y su cónyuge. Fotos de la Ceremonia Civil y/o por la Iglesia Recibos de remesas de dinero que su cónyuge le envía a usted Intercambio de cartas entre usted y su cónyuge Si la petición esta basada en relación PADRE/HIJO o HERMANOS: (Con el peticionario [padrastro o madrastra] o los padres biológicos) Boleto de Inscripción de Nacimiento color amarillo Fotos familiares entre el peticionario y usted, especialmente antes de que el peticionario se fue de Honduras Cartas personales entre usted y el peticionario Boletas de Vacuna, Registros de Hospital, etc. Cualquier otro documento que usted considere que pueda ser de ayuda. Recuerde, nosotros queremos trabajar con usted para ayudarle a comenzar su nueva vida en los Estados Unidos. EXAMEN ADN Se sugiere en algunos casos que usted compruebe su relación biológica con el peticionario, sometiéndose a un examen genético de ADN. El examen de ADN puede ser una herramienta muy útil al momento de verificar una relación consanguínea para la cual no haya otras pruebas creíbles. El laboratorio que realice las pruebas debe de ser aprobado por AABB ( Asociación Americana de Bancos de Sangre. En casos donde el peticionario sea el padrastro o madrastra, la prueba de ADN se hará con el padre o madre biológica del aplicante. Únicamente los doctores autorizados por la Embajada Americana pueden tomar muestras de ADN. El peticionario debe de contactar el laboratorio en los Estados Unidos para obtener una completa información en cuanto a procedimiento y pago. Después, usted deberá contactar el doctor aquí en Honduras para concertar una cita. El costo aproximado es $700 o su equivalente en moneda nacional.

8 INSTRUCCIONES PARA EL EXAMEN MÉDICO Cada persona que solicita una visa de inmigrante, incluyendo menores de edad, deberán someterse a un examen médico. El aplicante deberá pagar el total del examen médico. Seleccione uno de los médicos de esta lista. El o ella le informará que exámenes de laboratorio deberán practicarse. Las leyes en los Estados Unidos requieren ciertas vacunas, por lo que debe presentar el carne de vacunas donde el doctor. Los exámenes médicos toman un promedio de un día. Cada aplicante deberá presentar el pasaporte al doctor que le estará examinando. Por favor asegurarse de corregir su estado civil y los apellidos en su pasaporte antes de someterse al examen médico. Cuando se presente al Consulado Americano para su entrevista, por favor presente los resultados de su examen médico en el sobre sellado que le entregue el doctor o la doctora. Bajo ninguna circunstancia deberá abrir este sobre! Los exámenes médicos tienen una validez de un año. La visa de inmigrante tiene una validez de seis meses, si usted no completa el proceso de su visa dentro de los seis meses después de haberse hecho el examen médico, se los tendrá que hacer nuevamente.
