2 Page Two View this bulletin online at CHRIST THE KING NOVEMBER 22, 2009 CRISTO REY 22 DE NOVIEMBRE DEL 2009 THE COMING OF THE KING For many of us, since we were children, authority was not an issue of monarchies or political elections but a subject of moral authority to just anyone, no matter how much power or strength they may possess, yet we do so to those who convince us that they are looking after our well being. We are convinced by the person that through their own life shows they are not seeking a promotion or looking out for their own benefit, but is seeking peace and justice even if it means they may en up losing. In other words, we concede authority to the person who is honest and sacrifices themselves so others can have a more just and abundant life. We can say that such a person does not exist in this world. But then we hear echo of the words Jesus said: My kingdom is not from this world. In other words, the reign of Jesus has not been achieved through political conquests or elections, but by the anointing from God and his actions: he spent his life on earth doing good. His appearance on the clouds is not a manifestation of his military and political power, but of the favor from God. It is where the people who had seen him heal, bring relief to others, give joy and return to the human community had lived and witnessed his actions up close, leading them to recognize Jesus is truly the Son of God. To accept him as Lord does not meant to simply obey rules and commandments but to listen and behave according to the nature of this kingdom, which is clearly not of this world. If the king and lord spent his time doing good, then recognizing his mandate means we must also commit to doing the same. For reflection Who deserves our trust? Who have we granted authority to? What does it mean for us to say Christ is king? LA LLEGADA DEL REY Desde niños, para muchos de nosotros la autoridad no es cuestión de dinastías monárquicas o de elecciones políticas, sino mas bien de autoridad moral. Y no se la concedemos a cualquiera, por mucho poder y fuerza que tenga, sino a quien nos convence porque sabemos que de verdad busca el bien para nosotros. Nos convence quien, con su vida, demuestra que no esta buscando su ascenso o su provecho, sino la paz y la justicia, aunque eso signifique que el salga, por así decir, perdiendo. Es decir, concedemos la autoridad a quien es integro y se sacrifica por una vida mas justa y abundante para los demás. Diríamos que tal persona no parece ser de este mundo. Y entonces, escuchamos como un eco las palabras de Jesús: Mi reino no es de este mundo. Es decir, el reinado de Jesús no se ha logrado por conquista política, ni por elecciones democráticas, sino por la unción de Dios y por su acción: paso haciendo el bien. Su aparición sobre las nubes no es una manifestación de poderío, de fuerza militar o política, sino mas bien del favor de Dios. Ahí se reconoce lo que la gente que había vivido cerca y le había visto curar, aliviar, dar alegría, devolver a la comunidad humana: que Jesús verdaderamente era el Hijo de Dios. El aceptar su señorío no significa simplemente obedecer reglas y mandamientos, sino escuchar y conducirse según la naturaleza de este reino, que no es del mundo. Si el rey, el señor, paso haciendo el bien, reconocer su señorío significa comprometerse a hacer lo mismo. Para la reflexión Quién merece nuestra confianza? A quien hemos otorgado autoridad? Qué significa para nosotros decir que es rey? Nuestra Parroquia Nuestra Parroquia
