1 DESARROLLO DE UN ALGORITMO PARA LA ESTIMACIÓN DEL VOLUMEN DE VENTAS DE UNA EMPRESA DEL SECTOR AUTOMOVILÍSTICO Autor proyecto: Peña Guadalfajara, Javier Luciano. RESUMEN DEL PROYECTO Descripción del proyecto El proyecto consiste en el desarrollo de un algoritmo, que a partir de una serie temporal de una empresa automovilística, sea capaz de realizar predicciones fiables de cara a planificar la producción de la empresa en base a las ventas que se estima que va a realizar la empresa. Los objetivos marcados para el proyecto son los siguientes: Análisis del sector automovilístico: estudio tanto el macro-entorno y microentorno para poder enfocar el proyecto, ya que se analizarán los diferentes elementos que afectan al sector, así como las tendencias y los puntos dónde se pueden producir las diferentes mejoras. Análisis de los modelos de predicción: estudio de las características de las series temporales que se van a utilizar en el proyecto junto con el análisis de los diferentes métodos de predicción existentes. Creación de una herramienta de predicción: realizada la investigación y en análisis, se elegirá un modelo de predicción para realizar las predicciones, dicho método se programará y se integrará dentro de una herramienta sencilla para que pueda ser utilizada por el usuario, esta herramienta será la que se utilice para realizar las predicciones en el sector. Pruebas y comparación de resultados: ajuste de la herramienta para la minimización del error. Comparación de los resultados de dicha herramienta con los que se obtiene con el uso de otras herramientas estadísticas de predicción para comparar la eficiencia y eficacia del desarrollo. Viabilidad económica del proyecto: estimación del coste de la herramienta y estudio del posible ahorro en coste producido frente al uso de otras herramientas estadísticas, para comprobar la rentabilidad del software desarrollado.

2 Investigación y análisis El estudio del macro-entorno y micro-entrono, dará una idea de las diferentes tendencias del sector y permitirán realizar un análisis DAFO para comprobar la viabilidad de la idea. Tras la investigación de los elementos destacados para el estudio del entorno de la idea, así como su posterior análisis, se ha obtenido el siguiente diagrama DAFO: Análisis interno Análisis externo Fortalezas Gran cantidad de clientes en el sector Idea innovadora Oportunidades Diferenciación respecto a productos estándar Posibilidad de gran crecimiento Existencia de la tecnología necesaria para llevar a cabo el proyecto y poder aplicarlo Legislación favorable Debilidades Existencia de diferentes tipos de soluciones en el sector Gran competencia a la hora de ofrecer soluciones Amenazas Entorno económico hostil Análisis de diferentes soluciones Posibilidad de choque del desarrollo a medida con posibles soluciones estándar En el DAFO se observa que existe una mayor cantidad de condiciones favorables que desfavorables, por lo qué la idea es viable y se va a proceder a su desarrollo. También se ha realizado un estudio de los diferentes métodos de predicción existentes en el momento, junto con un análisis de las características de las series a estudiar, para poder seleccionar el mejor algoritmo de predicción en base a las series temporales utilizadas. Desarrollo herramienta Tras comprobar la viabilidad de la idea y escoger un algoritmo de predicción, se ha desarrollado un algoritmo capaz de realizar predicciones. En este caso se ha escogido el método de predicción Holt-Winters, ya que es un método que se adapta perfectamente a las características de la serie y su simplicidad a la hora de implementarlo junto con los resultados ofrecidos, justifica perfectamente su uso frente a otros modelos (como por ejemplo redes neuronales, o S-ARIMA). El desarrollo se ha realizado en su totalidad en Matlab, ya qué se trata de un lenguaje matemático que facilita el tratamiento de datos y es muy rápido realizando operaciones matemáticas.

3 Pruebas y resultados Para comprobar que el método de predicción empleado es el correcto, se ha utilizado la medida de error de la U de Theil, que compara el método de predicción utilizado con el método ingenuo, obteniéndose los siguientes resultados: U de Theil Pronósticos producción Pronósticos ventas A la vista queda que el método empleado supera con creces al método ingenuo (valores por debajo de 1). Una vez comprobado que el método de predicción escogido es correcto, se procede a comparar los resultados obtenidos por el desarrollo propio, con otros softwares estadísticos (Minitab y StatGrapichs). Para ello se ha utilizado la siguiente medida de error: A la hora de comparar las predicciones con los valores reales, se han utilizado los valores de 2011 en ambas series (ya que no se cuenta con toda la serie temporal de 2012). Para hallar el menor error se ha programado un Script qué busca el menor error posible variando los parámetros del modelo de predicción, como no hay manera de automatizar la búsqueda de los parámetros con los otros softwares estadísticos, la búsqueda del mínimo error se ha hecho a mano. Los resultados son: Error cometido Herramienta Error cometido software estadístico Producción ,4834 Ventas ,4771 Se observa una mejora en las predicciones por la herramienta desarrollada frente a las soluciones comerciales, por lo que las predicciones realizadas del año 2011, frente a las obtenidas por las herramientas comerciales, son más fiables.

4 Viabilidad económica del proyecto Con la estimación de las horas de trabajo empleadas en el proyecto, junto con los diferentes roles que han intervenido en la obtención de los entregables finales y las licencias necesarias, se ha obtenido una estimación económica del coste del desarrollo de la herramienta. El coste de la herramienta es el siguiente: Para comprobar la rentabilidad de la inversión se han creado diferentes escenarios, para comprobar el ahorro producido en una empresa automovilística, gracias al uso del algoritmo implementado. Para ello se han definido tanto los costes de almacenamiento, así como los costes de oportunidad. Se han definido tres escenarios, con un volumen de ventas dependiente de las ventas nacionales de vehículos, que junto con los resultados obtenidos en las predicciones realizadas en pruebas (valores reales frente a los del desarrollo propio o la solución comercial) han permitido el cálculo tanto de la TIR como del VAN del proyecto a cinco años, dándose los siguientes resultados: Se puede apreciar que el proyecto es económicamente viable, aunque para el escenario 3 (volumen de ventas 0,5% del volumen total en España) la TIR se queda algo corta para realizar la inversión. En los demás escenarios planteados la tasa interna de retorno es suficientemente elevada (mayor al 10%) como para invertir en el producto. A mayor volumen de ventas, mayor será el ahorro producido por la herramienta a la vista de los datos obtenidos en el 2011.

5 DEVELOPMENT OF AN ALGORITHM FOR THE ESTIMATION THE VOLUME OF SALES IN AN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY Project description The project consists in the development of an algorithm, that from a time series of a car company (sales and production), can make reliable predictions in order to plan the production of the company, based on the sales (for the next year) that the algorithm estimates for this company. The goals of the Project are this: Analysis of the automotive sector: study of the macro-environment and the micro-environment to approach the Project; it s going to analyzing the different elements that affect the sector, including trends and points where it can produce some improvements. Analysis of the prediction models: study of the characteristics of the time series that are going to be used in the Project, along with the analysis of the different existing prediction methods. Development of a prediction tool: after the research and the analysis, a prediction model is elected to make the predictions, this model will be scheduled and it will be integrated in a simple tool. These conditions will easy the use of the application. This tool will be used for doing the predictions of the sector. Testing and comparison of results: adjustment of the tool for minimizing the error. Comparison of the results of the tool, with the results of other statistic applications to compare the efficiency and effectiveness of the development. Economic viability of the project: estimation of the cost of the tool and the potential cost savings produced against the use of other statistics tools. Research and analysis The study of the macro-environment and micro-environment, will give an idea of the different trends of the sector, and it will allow making a DAFO analysis to study the viability of the idea. After the analysis of the featured elements in the study and analysis of the environment of the idea, it was obtained this DAFO diagram:

Along with this there has been made a study of the already existing predictions methods, with the analysis of the characteristics of the time series, to select the best prediction algorithm. Tool Development After checking the viability of the idea and choosing the correct prediction algorithm, a program has been developed for making the predictions. In this case the prediction method elected for the development is the Holt-Winters method. This election is good due to the characteristics of the time series and the simplicity of the algorithm, along with the results it gives. This justifies the use of this method instead of other models (like neuronal network o S-ARIMA). The development has been made in Matlab, because it is a mathematical language that does more easily this data treatment (time series) and it is faster than other languages making this kind of mathematical operations.

7 Test and Results To assure that the prediction method is correct, an error measurement has been used. This error measurement is the U-de-Theil that compares the prediction model used, with the naïve method. The results are: U de Theil Production forecast Sales forecast After seeing the results expressed in the table, it is seen that the the development method is better than the naive method (Value of the U de Theil behind one). After checking that the selected method is better than the naive method, the next step is to compare the results of the development method with the results of other statistics software (Minitab or StatGrapichs) For this comparison, this error measurement is used: To compare the results with the real values, calculation uses the 2011 production and sales data (because the 2012 data doesn t exist yet). To calculate this error, a Script was programmed. This Script looks for the minimum error for all parameters of the model. The parameters for the other software have to be found manually The results are: Error made with the tool Error made with statistics software Production ,4834 Sales ,4771 It can be see a little improvement in the forecast that the development tool made, against the predictions that made the commercial solutions. With this improvement we can see that the predictions for the year of 2011 that the new development tool made are better and more reliable than the predictions that made the commercial solutions.

8 Economic viability With the working hours used in the project, together with the different workforce that participates in the development, and with the licenses that are needed in the project, it was obtained an economic estimation of the development of the tool. The cost of the project is estimated in To know the profitability of this investment, different scenarios were created with different characteristics to see the saving that this tool will produce in an automotive company. For these simulations some cost were defined like storage cost or the opportunity cost. Three scenarios were defined in the project, in each case using different sales dependent of the national cars sales, that together with the results that it obtained in the chapter of test( true values against the values of the development or the values of the commercial solutions) allow calculate different values like TIR or VAN. The results are: Seeing the results it can be seen that the project is economically viable, although in the third scenario (0, 5% turnover of the Spanish sales) the TIR is a little bit short for the investment. In the rest of the rest of the scenarios the internal rate of return is good enough (more than 10%) for doing the investment. At higher turnover, the tool helps produces more saving for the company with the data obtained en 2011.
