3 23 Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 6 de Septiembre de 2015 Pastor s Message My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes, As we begin a new school year we begin as well our Christian Formation classes. Often it is when they are preparing for First Communion that our young Christians begin their formal education and formation in the Faith. God s goodness and greatness, though, couldn t be exhausted in a lifetime and we have education and formation for the whole of life. This week Maria Elena would like to share with us all that is going on in Youth Ministry. I have invited her to be my guest columnist and she will also be out front after the Masses to meet and speak with you. There is much to be excited about! God bless, Msgr. Schwanger Mensaje del Párroco Mi querida familia de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, Mientras comenzamos un nuevo año escolar también comenzamos las clases de Formación Cristiana. Es frecuente que cuando se están preparando para la Primera Comunión, nuestros jóvenes cristianos, comienzan su educación formal y formación en la fe. Sin embargo, la bondad y la grandeza de Dios no pueden ser agotadas en toda una vida y tenemos educación y formación para toda la vida. Esta semana Maria Elena quiere compartir con nosotros todo lo que está pasando en el Ministerio de Jóvenes. Dios los bendiga, Mons. Schwanger Hello, and welcome to the Youth Ministry Year at Our Lady of Lourdes. My name is Maria Elena Murdock, and I am the Youth Minister for Our Lady of Lourdes. I graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2013 with a degree in Theology and I m very excited to continue sharing the Catholic Faith in Jesus Christ with our youth at Our Lady of Lourdes this year. We have so many exciting plans for this year! In an increasingly secular society, it is becoming more important to reveal the Truth to the young generation. An encounter with Christ is transformative, shaping our understanding of not only who God is, but also who we are. With your help, I intend to show the youth of Our Lady of Lourdes the vitality of the living Church and the personal relationship with Christ from which hope, peace, joy, and love flows! We have two weekly youth ministries Sparks middle school ministry and Spirit Life for high school students and the Living Stones young adult ministry. Sparks leads middle school students into a deeper personal relationship with Christ in fun, faith-filled atmosphere. Sparks meets every Friday from 7pm. to 9pm. We are building on the great success this parish had enjoyed over the last decade with the Spirit Day ministry to create Spirit Life, which will welcome all high school students from freshmen to seniors. Spirit Life will continue to serve to teach high school teens about the core tenets of the Catholic Faith in a fun, vibrant atmosphere. Spirit Life Nights start October 8th and run from 7:45pm to 9:30pm every Thursday afterwards. All high school students are invited to participate in this ministry whether or not they have been Confirmed. Living Stones young adult ministry connects young adults from ages 19 to 35 to form a strong community of disciples and missionaries of Christ through weekly meetings on Tuesdays from 8pm to 10pm. As the year progresses I request each and every one of you invest in our youth ministry program. You, personally, can make a difference. Encourage your children in the Faith, to attend Mass, to participate in the life of the parish, to engage with the youth ministry, to become more fully children of Christ. Please continue to pray for our youth, that their hearts and minds might be open to the grace of God! Mi nombre es María Elena Murdock, y soy el ministro de la juventud de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes. Tenemos dos ministerios juveniles semanales - Sparks es el grupo de escuela media, Spirit Life es para estudiantes de secundaria - y el ministerio de jóvenes adultos, Living Stones. Sparks conduce estudiantes de educación media a una relación personal más profunda con Cristo en un ambiente divertido y lleno de fe. Sparks se reúne todos los viernes desde las 7 pm a 9 pm. In the event of inclement weather, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School follows the Miami Dade County guidelines for school closure. September 14-15: Speech, hearing and vision screenings. September 16: Early dismissal at 12:45 and 1:00, extended care is available until 6:00 p.m. September 17: 8th grade parents meeting in St. Bernadette Hall at 7:30 p.m. September 18: The staff will host mass at 9:00 a.m., back to school dance for middle school students in St. Bernadette Hall at 7:00 p.m. September 19: VIRTUS course in St. Bernadette Hall at 9:00 a.m. in English. This course is required for anyone who is interested in becoming a school volunteer. September 20: Catechetical Sunday mass at 11:45 a.m. During this mass the teachers and catechists will be recognized and given a special blessing.
