2 Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 21, 2015 Message from our Pastor Happy Father s Day! I hope everyone has a big celebration planned. I remember that at least externally Father s Day embarrassed my dad. For example, you couldn t give him a gift certificate or he would use it to buy something for the family. But I suspect that he was really gratified by being shown that we understood and appreciated his taking his vocation as father very seriously. It was important for him to know that he made a difference and he did! And so today we thank our fathers and let them know that yes they make a difference and that we love and appreciate them. I would like especially for us to remember one of our newest fathers Fr. Javier Barreto. This will be his first Father s Day with us. It is with good reason that we call our priests father. They give us new life. They nurture and protect that life. They feed us. They teach us. They console us. They celebrate us. By God s grace they live so that we might have life. It is a wonderful and awesome thing to be father and I know that no father is quite sure that he is up to it. I suspect that Fr. Javier is a little nervous as he takes up the call to fatherhood among us. Let us continue to welcome him and thank him today as well. Let him know that we thank God for having given him to us as father. Let him know that we understand and appreciate his concern for us. Finally, tell him that yes he already makes a difference. He does! Yo recuerdo que al menos externamente, el día de los padres avergonzaba a mi papá. Por ejemplo no se le podía dar una tarjeta de regalo porque lo usaría para comprar algo para la familia. Pero sospecho que estaba realmente satisfecho cuando le demostramos que entendimos y apreciamos el hecho de que él tomara su vocación de padre tan en serio. Era importante para él saber que hacía una diferencia, y lo hizo! Así que hoy le damos gracias a nuestros padres y les dejamos saber que sí ellos hacen una diferencia y nosotros los amamos y valoramos. Me gustaría que nosotros recordemos especialmente a nuestro mas reciente padre padre Javier Barreto. Este será su primer Día del Padre con nosotros. Es por una buena razón que llamamos a nuestros sacerdotes padres. Ellos nos dan nueva vida. Ellos nutren y protegen esa vida. Nos alimentan. Nos enseñan. Nos consuelan. Nos celebran. Por la gracia de Dios ellos viven para que nosotros tengamos vida. Es una maravillosa e impresionante cosa el ser padre y yo se que ningún padre está seguro de que está a la altura de serlo. Sospecho que el padre Javier está un poco nervioso mientras asume su llamado a la paternidad entre nosotros. Continuemos dándole la bienvenida y agradeciéndole hoy también. Déjele saber que le damos gracias a Dios por habérnoslo dado como padre. Déjele saber que entendemos y apreciamos su preocupación por nosotros. Finalmente dígale que sí él ya hace una diferencia.
