2 Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord May 17, 2015 Message from Our Pastor My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes, Again, Congratulations and thanks to all our mothers! We continue to pray for you and your intentions in our Mother s Day Novena. While we were celebrating Mother s Day last weekend the Archbishop was celebrating the Ordination of six new priests here in the Archdiocese of Miami. I, too, was ordained on Mother s Day weekend and I think the connection is beautiful. Ordination day, like one s wedding day, is a time when we freely choose to live so that another (or many others) might have life - to love as Jesus has loved us. This is possible in large part because of our mothers. As Mary was with Jesus, so our mothers are with us. Their being with us throughout our lives - especially when our crosses are heavy - gives us strength and sustains us as we grow and strive to live the life that the Lord has prepared for us. We owe much to them. As the Fourth Commandment states Honor your father and mother. Mother s Day is a day when we do just that. We recognize and thank our mothers for their love with a little special attention. The connection with Ordination day is even more poignant for us this year. We will again be blessed to welcome a newly ordained priest to our parish family. Fr. Javier Barreto, ordained last Saturday morning, will be coming to Our Lady of Lourdes as a parochial vicar. Fr. Javier already knows us at least a little. Like Fr. Elvis before him, as a seminarian he spent a year with Fr. Alejandro at St. Catherine of Siena and has had the chance to visit us every now and then. Saturday morning a number of us were able to be at his ordination to welcome him and let him know how happy we are that he is coming. You can find out more about him in The Florida Catholic. So these are good days! We will soon have the opportunity to formally welcome Fr. Javier Barreto to Our Lady of Lourdes. For now, let us pray for him. Msgr. Seguimos orando por ustedes y sus intenciones en la Novena del día de las Madres. Mientras estábamos celebrando el día de las Madres el fin de semana pasado el Arzobispo estaba celebrando la ordenación de seis nuevos sacerdotes aquí en la Arquidiócesis de Miami. Yo también fui ordenado un fin de semana del día de las Madres y creo que la conexión es hermosa. El día de la ordenación, igual que un día de bodas, es un momento en que elegimos libremente vivir para que otro (u otros) tengan vida - amar como Jesús nos ha amado. Esto es posible en gran parte gracias a nuestras madres. Como María estaba con Jesús, así nuestras madres están con nosotros. Estando ellas con nosotros durante toda nuestra vida - especialmente cuando nuestras cruces son pesadas - nos da fuerza y nos sostiene a medida que crecemos y nos esforzamos por vivir la vida que el Señor ha preparado para nosotros. Les debemos mucho a ellas. Como dice el cuarto mandamiento "Honra a tu padre y a tu madre". Es precisamente eso lo que hacemos el día de las Madres. Reconocemos y agradecemos a nuestras madres por su amor con un poco de atención especial. La conexión con el día de la ordenación es aún más conmovedora para nosotros este año. Volveremos a ser bendecidos al recibir a un sacerdote recién ordenado a nuestra familia parroquial. El padre Javier Barreto, ordenado el sábado pasado por la mañana, va a venir a Nuestra Señora de Lourdes como vicario parroquial. El padre Javier ya nos conoce - al menos un poco. Al igual que el padre Elvis antes que él, como seminarista pasó un año con el padre Alejandro en Santa Catalina de Siena y ha tenido la oportunidad de visitarnos de vez en cuando. 7 Solemnidad de la Ascensión del Señor May 17, 2015 BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN 2015 The Respect Life Baby Campaign begins this weekend. Please pick up a baby bottle before or after Mass and have it filled with coins, cash or checks (made payable to Respect Life ) and bring it back the weekend of May 30/31. When you fill this bottle you are helping to provide free pregnancy test, sonograms, referrals, material assistance and emotional support to a women in crisis. You are also providing education programs throughout the Archdiocese of Miami through our schools, universities and parishes and also extending healing to those already hurt by abortion.
