2 Solemnity of the Holy Spirit May 26, 2013 Message from Our Pastor My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes, Every three years the Archdiocese of Miami has its parishes undergo an outside audit of its financial records, policies, and procedures. This year was our turn and we have just recently received the completed report from Verdeja & De Armas, LLP. The report analyzes our financial health and compares it to other large parishes in the Archdiocese of Miami. It was a very complimentary report and I would like to commend the Accounting Department for the parish and school as well as the Parish Finance Council for their good work! In regards to the school we were particularly commended for covering regular operating expenses with regular operating income. Our tuition is lower than the average and our salary expense takes a larger share of tuition income than average. That means that we are doing a good job providing salary and benefits for our faculty and staff while also keeping tuition as affordable as possible. The report was also complimentary of our financial aid program for tuition assistance. In regards to the church the analysis found that the contribution per parishioner is a little below average for parishes in the Archdiocese of Miami. With that our salary expense as a percentage of total revenue is just a little above average. Again we were commended for covering our ordinary operating expenses with ordinary income. The report does make mention of our long-term debt. The auditors noted that the debt is large in regards to our available cash. Looking at the size of our parish family they noted that the $6.5 million debt represents about $1,700 per parishioner and that we ought to be able to pay it off relatively quickly. We know they are right about the debt. Last year when I asked what financial matter we should focus on as a parish family the overwhelming response was to pay off the long-term debt. Since then we have increased our support of the debt reduction drive a little but really not significantly. The recent introduction of Faith Direct here at Our Lady of Lourdes gives us another chance to focus on our goal. I am inviting everyone to join me in signing up to pay $1,700 toward the debt reduction. Faith Direct gives us many ways to structure the automatic payments over time. I am going to pay with regular charges to my credit card and by next year at this time I will have paid off my $1,700 share of our debt. Please give serious consideration to joining me. We all know how debt limits our possibilities and together we can set ourselves free. All in all though it was a great report and I again want to thank everyone. Congratulations. Msgr. Este año fue nuestro turno y hemos recibido recientemente el informe completo de Verdeja & De Armas, LLP. El informe analiza nuestra salud financiera y la compara con otras grandes parroquias de la Arquidiócesis de Miami. Fue un informe muy elogioso y me gustaría felicitar al Departamento de Contabilidad de la parroquia y la escuela, así como el Consejo Parroquial de Finanzas por su buen trabajo! En lo que respecta a la escuela fuimos particularmente elogiados por cubrir los gastos ordinarios de funcionamiento con los ingresos operativos regulares. Nuestra matrícula es inferior al promedio y nuestro gasto salarial tiene una mayor proporción de los ingresos de matrícula que el promedio. Esto significa que estamos haciendo un buen trabajo proporcionando salarios y beneficios para nuestra facultad y personal y al mismo tiempo mantener la matrícula lo más asequible posible. El informe también fue elogioso en cuanto a nuestro programa de ayuda financiera para matrícula. En lo que respecta a la iglesia el análisis encontró que la contribución por cada feligrés está un poco por debajo del promedio de las parroquias de la Arquidiócesis de Miami. Los auditores observaron que la deuda es grande en lo que respecta a nuestro efectivo disponible. Mirando el tamaño de nuestra familia parroquial, señalaron que la deuda de $ 6.5 millones representa alrededor de $1,700 por feligrés y que debemos ser capaces de pagarlo con relativa rapidez. Sabemos que ellos están en lo cierto acerca de la deuda. El año pasado, cuando pregunté en qué materia financiera debemos centrarnos como familia parroquial, la respuesta abrumadora fue pagar la deuda a largo plazo. FECHA LIMITE PARA INSCRIPCION: 31 de MAYO, 2013 Feast of the Most Holy Trinity 2013 Last weekend we celebrated the feast of Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit. We recalled that, this year alone, over three hundred people from Our Lady of Lourdes celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation, either here at Our Lady of Lourdes or at the Cathedral. We give thanks for the works of the Holy Spirit in our midst. We must also recognize and give thanks for the many faithful catechists and others who provided the human time, energy and devotion to help make this possible. The Holy Spirit works in and through us. Indeed, the Holy Spirit needs us to manifest His presence and actualize His work in the world. As we look forward to the year, we recognize the need for people to step up and serve as catechists and to contribute to the fine work that is already part of the celebration of faith at Our Lady of Lourdes. In other words, we need you. It takes a team of about eighty people to provide the human energy, hands, feet and enthusiasm that is needed to serve the hundreds that will be coming to us for faith formation this year. You will need some time (between three and four hours per week that you can dedicate to serving as a catechist, catechetical aide, session facilitator, or staff volunteer), a strong faith, a love of Jesus, and a love for the children (or adults) you will serve.
