People can apply for representation at the office or from the jail. If you need to speak to someone who has been detained, you should send the person a money order so he or she can buy a phone card and call you. You can drop off clothes for a person who is about to be released or deported, but only if the person in detention writes a kite (a request form) to the captain asking for permission and the captain approves the request. You can also get information about your immigration history. For example, if you have ever missed an immigration court date, you may have been ordered deported without knowing it. When people pay their bonds or are released on the ankle bracelet program, their cases are transferred to the court in downtown Denver and they must attend their hearings there. 5 If you are attending a friend or family member s hearing, make sure to arrive early because you will need time to pass through security at the detention center.
