1 SFC News Join us for the pancake breakfast this Saturday, February 11th from 9am-12pm at SFC. We expect to have a great turn out and loads of excellent food, music, Valentine's Day chocolates, garden activities, and outdoor games. Many parents have asked me about the standardized tests in the spring. This year state testing will take place for all second-eight grade students during the weeks of 4/16-4/30. We believe that it s important for our students to show what they know and can do on these assessments, just like on any other assessments. While we don t spend a lot of time teaching to the test we believe that it is important for you and your child to know what to expect. Here are two resources that may be helpful. At the SFUSD website you can access a parent handbook that outlines the standards for your child by grade level. The link is: At the California Department of Education you can see sample questions from the tests by grade level. The link is: Strong Community Parent Action Committee: Thurs Feb 09 th at 6:00pm. Dinner and childcare provided. Please come help plan upcoming fundraisers and community events. Pancake Breakfast: Sat Feb 11 th from 9am-12pm at SFC. Strong Individuals We support students to be strong individuals through the following classroom and school activities: Garden: There will be a family fun day and potluck lunch on Saturday March 3rd from 9am-1pm in the garden. Come help out in the garden with your children and enjoy some weeding, planting, flipping compost, harvesting and eating! Please check out the garden newsletter attached to the SFC newsletter. 7/8: Students in humanities class have been reading about and learning about Alcatraz. Last week they researched artifacts and met with park rangers. This Friday they will go on a field trip to visit Alcatraz. 3 Noticias de SFC Venga al desayuno con panqueques este sábado, 11 de febrero de 9am-12pm en la escuela SFC. Se espera mucha gente y mucha comida excelente, la música, chocolates para el Día de San Valentín, actividades en el jardín, y juegos afuera. Muchos padres me ha preguntado sobre los exámenes estatales en la primavera. Este año los exámenes se llevarán acabo para los estudiantes en grados segundo-octavo durante las semanas de abril. Creamos que es importante que los estudiantes muestren lo que sepan y lo que puedan hacer en estos exámenes iguales como en los otros exámenes. Aunque no pasamos mucho tiempo enseñando a los exámenes pensamos que es importante que los padres y los alumnos sepan lo que se espera. Hay dos recursos que puedan ayudar. En el sitio del Internet del SFUSD puede encontrar un guía para padres que explique los estándares para los estudiante de cada grado. Se encuentran en: En el departamento de educación de California se puede ver preguntas de los exámenes de cada grado. Se vean en Comunidad Fuerte Comité de Acción de Padres: jueves 9 de febrero a 6:00pm. Comida y cuidado de niños. Por favor venga ayudar a planear los eventos comunitarios! 5 Play lacrosse for free! Lacrosse is a Native American game the oldest in the world! We have no fees and all gear is provided! 7 th and 8 th grade boys are invited to the Bayview Bulldogs 2012 Kick-Off at Gilman Playground Sunday 2/13/12 at 1 pm. Practices are T/W/TH 4 5:30. Kids from all over the city play we know you may not be able to get there by 4 pm, but if you want to play, just come as soon as you can. (SFC students will take the 29 or carpool from school.)
