His heart is set on pleasing and cheering the one to whom the gift is given. - St. Julian Our Gospel reading from St. Mark naturally connects to Ezekiel s vision and Paul s call to faith. There are two parables included in the Gospel: the Parable of the Growing Seed and the Parable of the Mustard Seed. The basic point of the first parable is that we plant seeds, but only God can make them grow. When we virtually plant a seed it is our trust and belief in God that makes us confident that it will grow. Only God can make that seed grow and make the result bear fruit. It is that belief which continues to inspire us. Of course, the Parable of the Mustard Seed follows closely that line of thought. Faith, no matter how small or minute, has the capability of producing great results, not because of us, but again because of the Lord. The Kingdom of God, although perhaps small and unnoticeable in the beginning, becomes great and fruitful. It is our faith that nurtures that Kingdom, and it is our lives of stewardship that can produce incredible harvests. please join us TODAY! Daily prayer, participation in the Sunday Mass, the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, charitable acts and the constant weeding out of sin are of necessity if the bounty of our faith is to be deep and plentiful. REFLECTION I relate to this Gospel because I learned on retreat at my parish that our faith is like a mustard seed. It starts out small. For me, my own way of taking it was that my faith was hidden and small to where no one could see it. Like a mustard seed, my faith grew and became stronger and expanded in many ways. The Gospel spoke to me because in my younger years, I didn't have much faith other than what my parents taught me and after coming to St Francis it grew larger like the mustard seed. 5 14 DE JUNIO DEL XI DOMINGO ORDINARIO PAGE 5 YOUNG ADULTS & ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Sessions are held every Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room. Anyone interested in completing their sacraments of initiation ~ Baptism, Confirmation or Eucharist ~ is welcome to join us. For we walk by faith, not by sight. Those words of great insight are in today s second reading from St. Paul s second letter to the Corinthians. Hymns have been written with that theme at the focal point. It is often quoted and used as a reference point for how we view our faith and the many mysteries of the Church. We could also parallel Paul s statement by saying We walk by hope, and not by sight. Through Christ s Crucifixion we believe, we know, that Jesus offered us the possibility and the hope of life everlasting. We live in a world that puts great credibility to what the eye can see. That is why the visual and social media seem to have such a huge impact on people s lives. However, as Christians, we also know that the conclusions of the heart are as valid as those of the mind. Yet, this is one of the most difficult aspects of our relationship to God and to one another. Faith implies trust. Without that sense of trust, that feeling of hope, that awareness that there is more to truth than what seems obvious, we cannot pursue discipleship and stewardship the way Jesus has invited us to live. Our faith our commitment to living as Christians must pervade everything in our lives, everything we do every day. After 6+ year of service and dedication to the Community of St. Anthony of Padua we say FAREWELL TO SISTER TERE THANKS TO ST. Gracias por sus generosa contribución y oraciones! Nuestra lectura del Evangelio de San Marcos se conecta naturalmente con la visión de Ezequiel y la llamada de Pablo a la fe. Hay dos parábolas en el Evangelio: la Parábola de la Semilla que Crece y la Parábola de la Semilla de Mostaza. El punto básico de la primera parábola es que plantamos las semillas, pero sólo Dios puede hacerlas crecer. Cuando prácticamente "sembramos una semilla" es nuestra confianza y fe en Dios que nos hacen estar seguros de que crecerá. Sólo Dios puede hacer que la semilla crezca y hacer el resultado de dar fruto. Es esa creencia que sigue inspirándonos. Por supuesto, la Parábola de la Semilla de Mostaza sigue de cerca esa línea de pensamiento. Fe, no importa cuán pequeña o minuta, tiene la capacidad de producir grandes resultados, no por nosotros, sino otra vez por el Señor. El Reino de Dios, aunque tal vez pequeño e imperceptible al principio, se convierte en un grandioso y fructífero. Es nuestra fe que nutre a ese reino, y es nuestras vidas de corresponsabilidad que pueden producir cosechas increíbles.
