Within the North American block, Mexico s trade, along with its partner countries, went from 30.4% of the region s total in January-April of 1993 to 51.2% in the same period of 2018, reflecting the importance of Mexico as a trading partner of Canada and the United States. Dentro del bloque de Norteamérica, el comercio de México con sus países socios pasó del 30.4% del total de la región en enero-abril de 1993 al 51.2% en enero-abril de 2018, lo que refleja la importancia de México como socio comercial de Canadá y EE.UU. Regarding the Mexico-Canada trade, trade flows increased 8.9% amounting USD$12.7 billion. This value represents a bilateral trade increase of 981.1% in the NAFTA era, which also translates as an average annual growth rate of 10.0% between January-April 1993 and the same period of 2018, the highest within the region. About the Bilateral Trade between Mexico and the United States, the goods exchange increased 10.3% totaling USD$178.4 billion. Note: The information contained in this report was developed using importer s numbers shown in official sources such as BANXICO, Statistics Canada and USDOC (in the section of trade by province, only data from Statistics Canada was used). Figures shown are in USD in accordance to the average nominal exchange rate observed in the mentioned period. Este valor representa un crecimiento del comercio de 981.1% en la era del TLCAN, lo que además se traduce en una tasa de crecimiento anual promedio de 10.0% entre enero-abril de 1993 y eneroabril de 2018, la más alta para la región. En relación al comercio México - EE.UU., el intercambio de bienes creció 10.3%, para ubicarse en $178,393 mdd. Mexico was only exceeded by the imports from the United States (71.2%), China (4.2%) and United Kingdom (3.3%). In terms of value, sales from Canada to Mexico reached USD$3.37 billion in an increase of 13.0% compared to the same period of 2017 and 922.4% higher than sales carried out in January-April The average annual growth rate of exports from Canada into Mexico between January-April 1993 and was 9.7%. The largest increases were 25.5 in Quebec, and 17.1 in British Columbia. These numbers in comparison to the same period in Mexico continued to keep its position as the 3rd largest supplier for the Canadian market (5.5%), after purchases from Canada to United States (50.2%) and China (11.4%). México mantuvo su posición como tercer proveedor de Canadá (5.5% del total), participación superada por las compras de EE.UU. (50.2%) y China (11.4%). From January 1999 to March 2018, Canada s cumulative FDI in Mexico reached USD$33.87 billion, becoming the third largest foreign investor (6.6%) in Mexico after USA (48.7%) y Spain (12.0%). On March 2018, 3,874 firms were registered in Mexico as having Canadian capital. These results demonstrate the high confidence that the NAFTA s legal framework has granted to Canadian investors to operate in Mexico.
