1 MEXICO - CANADA TRADE Trade Among NAFTA Partners Region of North America In, total in the NAFTA Region recorded a value of USD$1.05 trillion, equivalent to a growth of 4.5 compared to the previous year's same period. This is the highest historical level in regional. Within the block of North America, Mexico's total along with its partner countries went from 30.9 of the region's total back in 1993, to 46.7 in, reflecting the importance of Mexico as a trading partner of Canada and the United States As for the Mexico-Canada, flows increased 2.6, amounting USD$35.3 billion, a record figure in the bilateral relationship. This value represents a bilateral increase of 774 in the NAFTA era, which also translates as an average annual growth rate of 12.1 between 1993 and, the highest within the region. 2 EXPORTS FROM CANADA TO MEXICO Just as it happened in 2011, Mexico finished the year as Canada s 5 th largest export market for Canadian products (2.2 of total), only exceeded by imports from the United States, China, the United Kingdom and Japan. 3 Investment from Canada in Mexico During the last thirteen years, Canadian foreign direct investment (FDI) has been a key factor for the integration of our productive sectors: From January 2000 to December, Canada s cumulative FDI in Mexico reached USD$12.6 billion, becoming the fourth largest foreign investor in Mexico after USA, Spain and Netherlands. According to the Ministry of Economy, on December, 3,143 firms were registered in Mexico as having Canadian capital. These results demonstrate the high confidence that the NAFTA s legal framework has granted to Canadian investors to operate in Mexico.
