3 Dear Friends, Allow me to share some great news with you! As you can see each week in the Sunday bulletin our collections are increasing- they are about $4000 higher each week than last year. Many of our parishioners have increased their Sunday offering and the parish is grateful for your generosity. Also, we are registering new families more than ever before!! In the year 2014 we registered a total of 312 new families. Since January 2015 we have registered more than 400 new families!! This is truly a great blessing! Many of our new families have recently moved here from another party of the city, country or world. Others are registering from Jackson Heights and Corona. There are 9 Sunday masses offered here (10 masses twice a month) and as you know they are now all filled!! Our Sunday attendance has risen. At this time I am considering adding an additional mass on Sundays at 6 p.m. in Spanish this will assist our parishioners who need to work on Sunday mornings and therefore only attend Spanish mass on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. We recently read in the paper churches closing or merging throughout New York City. Here in Elmhurst we are growing!! Como se puede ver cada semana en el boletín dominical nuestras colectas están aumentando, alrededor de más de $4.000 cada semana con respecto al año pasado. Muchos de nuestros feligreses han aumentado su ofrenda dominical, y la parroquia está agradecida por su generosidad. También estamos registrando nuevas familias, más que nunca!! En el año 2014 se registró un total de 312 familias nuevas. Desde enero de 2015, hemos registrado más de 400 nuevas familias!! Ésta es verdaderamente una gran bendición! Muchas de nuestras nuevas familias se han mudado recientemente aquí desde otra parte de la ciudad, el país o el mundo. Otros están registrándose desde Jackson Heights y Corona. Hay 9 Misas dominicales que se ofrecen aquí (10 Misas dos veces al mes) y como ustedes saben, ahora están todas llenas!! Nuestra asistencia dominical ha aumentado. En este momento estoy considerando agregar una Misa adicional los domingos a las 6 pm en español, esto ayudará a nuestros feligreses que necesitan trabajar los domingos por la mañana y, por lo tanto, sólo asisten a Misa en español los martes o jueves por la noche. Recientemente hemos leído en el periódico el cierre o la fusión de iglesias en toda la Ciudad de Nueva York. Aquí en Elmhurst... estamos creciendo!! 4 REPAIRS AND RENOVATIONS A quick update to all of our parishioners regarding major repairs and renovations in our parish. We are able to accomplish these necessary repairs and renovations through your continuous generosity. CONVENT: NEW ROOF; 20 NEW WINDOWS; CONSTRUCTING NEW FAITH FORMATION CENTER RECTORY: NEW ROOF OUTDOOR LIGHTING: NEW OUTDOOR LIGHTS ON JUDGE ST, WHITNEY AVE & 43 AVE SCHOOL: NEW BOYS BATHROOM ON 2 ND FL; NEW SCHOOL OFFICE ON LOWER LEVEL FIRST HOLY COMMUNION More than 220 young people will receive the Eucharist for the very first time in the next few weeks. Please keep them and their parents in your prayers as they prepare for this special moment. These special masses will take place on Saturday May 30 and June 6. Our Lady of the Clouds Our traditional mass in honor of Our Lady will take place on Sunday, May 24, 3p.m. in the main church. Our Lady of the Clouds is the Patroness of Ecuador and of immigrants. This is always a wonderful day to celebrate our faith, our devotion to Mary and the contributions of Ecuadorians to the life of our church. There will be marching bands, Ecuadorians in native dress and traditional dancing. Our guest preacher for the mass will be Father Felix Herrera, parochial vicar of Saint Joan of Arc Parish. IMPORTANT MESSAGE In order to give letters of recommendation, letters attesting to character, sponsor certificates, and other documents that may have legal or religious purposes, it is required that persons requesting those documents be registered and be active members of St Bartholomew Parish. We can not give any of these documents to persons not registered in the parish. SAINT BARTHOLOMEW SCHOOL NEWS Registration continues for Saint Bartholomew Parish School. At this time we do not have space for kindergarten and first grade this September. We are accepting new children for grades 2 to 7. Scholarships are available for families who need them! Please call Dennis Mantilla at the school for more information WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A CATECHIST? In a few weeks we will be completing this year s faith formation program where over 550 children participated! We are in great need of more catechists men and women 18 years and older who are willing to give up some of their free time in teaching and sharing the Catholic faith. Most of our classes take place on Sundays some are Tuesday evenings. Classes are only 90 minutes long. All volunteers must have a background check, be Virtus trained (protection of children) and be willing to take courses and workshops to assist you in becoming a parish catechist. On Wednesday, June 24, at 6:30pm we will offer an introductory meeting in the school gym on Judge Street. In order to attend you need to contact Sr. Lucy, with your name and contact information. You can contact her at stbartfaithformation@yahoo.com WORLD YOUTH DAY BAKE SALE Last Sunday 15 of our young people held a bake sale outside church to raise fund for their pilgrimage next July to Poland with Pope Francis. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. they raised $1700 selling all their cakes and cookies before the last masses. Their next fundraiser will be a walk-a-thon. They will walk in prayer and pilgrimage on Sunday, June 13 from St. Bart s Church to St Patrick s Cathedral. They are looking for sponsors -- $40 and you can be a sponsor and they will pray for your intention during their walk. For more information, contact Sr Tatiana at the rectory. BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY Dealing with the death of family and friends is difficult and different for everyone. We are happy to announce that 4 of our parishioners have been trained by the Diocese and are ready to begin a Bereavement Ministry here at St Bart s! What is bereavement ministry? Really its an opportunity to come together to PRAY, LISTEN AND SHARE. We PRAY for those who have died, we LISTEN to the stories that people in the group choose to share and we SHARE our own story. It is not required to share...it s ok to pray and listen! OUR FIRST GATHERING WILL TAKE PLACE FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2015 AT 9:30A.M. IN HEAFEY HALL. We hope many parishioners will take advantage of this opportunity. The day will conclude at 11:00 a.m. with light refreshments. 5 REPARACIONES Y RENOVACIONES Una actualización rápida para todos nuestros feligreses respecto a las reparaciones y renovaciones en nuestra parroquia. Estamos en condiciones de realizar estas reparaciones y renovaciones necesarias gracias a su continua generosidad. CONVENTO: nuevo techo; 20 nuevas ventanas; construcción de un nuevo centro de formación en la fe. RECTORIA: nuevo techo. ILUMINACIÓN EXTERIOR: NUEVAS LUCES AL AIRE LIBRE EN LA CALLE JUDGE, WHITNEY AVE. Y 43 AVE. ESCUELA: NUEVO BAÑO PARA LOS VARONES EN EL 2 DO PISO; NUEVA OFICINA DE LA ESCUELA EN EL NIVEL INFERIOR. VENTA DE PASTELES PARA LA JORNADA MUNDIAL DE LA JUVENTUD El pasado domingo 15 de nuestros jóvenes llevaron a cabo una venta de pasteles afuera de la iglesia para recaudar fondos para su peregrinación a Polonia con el Papa Francisco el próximo julio. Desde las 9 am a la 1 pm se recaudaron $ 1.700, vendiendo todos sus pasteles y galletas antes de las últimas Misas. Su próxima recaudación de fondos será un "walk-athon". Ellos caminarán en oración y peregrinación el domingo 13 de junio desde la iglesia San Bartolomé a la Catedral de San Patricio. Ellos están buscando patrocinadores, $ 40 y ud. puede ser uno de los patrocinadores y van a orar por sus intenciones durante su caminata. Para obtener más información, póngase en contacto con la Hna. Tatiana en la rectoría. NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LAS NUBES: Nuestra tradicional Misa en honor de Nuestra Señora se llevará a cabo el domingo 24 de Mayo a las 3 pm en la iglesia principal. Nuestra Señora de las Nubes es la Patrona de Ecuador y de los inmigrantes. Éste siempre es un día maravilloso para celebrar nuestra fe, nuestra devoción a María y las contribuciones de los ecuatorianos a la vida de nuestra iglesia. Habrá bandas de música, ecuatorianos con vestimenta nativa y bailes tradicionales. Nuestro predicador invitado para la Misa será el Padre Félix Herrera, vicario parroquial de la Parroquia Santa Juana de Arco. QUIERE SER CATEQUISTA? Pronto estaremos finalizando el Programa de Formación en la Fe este año. Más de 500 niños participaron! Estamos necesitando mas catequistas hombres y mujeres de 18 años o más, dispuestos a dar un poco de su tiempo para enseñar y compartir la fe Católica. La mayoría de nuestras clases se realizan los domingos algunas los martes por la noche. Las clases son de 90 minutos. Todos los catequistas tienen que ser investigados, participar en el entrenamiento de Virtus (para la seguridad de los niños) y estar dispuestos a participar en algunos cursos y talleres para ayudarles en la labor como catequistas. El Miércoles, 24 de Junio ofreceremos una reunión de introducción a las 6:30 PM en el gimnasio de la escuela en la Calle Judge. En este momento no tenemos espacio para el kindergarten ni para primer grado en septiembre. Estamos aceptando nuevos niños para 2 a 7 grado.
