3 Dear Friends, This weekend is the official last days of summer. Where does the time go? I m happy to let you know that our new pastoral year is off to a great start! Our adult choirs are back practicing in English and Spanish as well as a children s Spanish choir. Our youth groups are meeting again under the ministry of Sr. Tatiana and her team. This Sunday we are sending 56 young people to a retreat this is a tremendous number we are very happy and praying for them. Our faith formation program will begin next weekend and already more than 500 are registered and ready to begin their religious formation. So let s get ready to welcome them next Sunday the children will begin attending mass with us at the 8:30 a.m.; 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. masses. Our Catholic School has opened a bit higher than last year- we currently have 258 children registered. Of course we are always open to accepting more! This coming year our school is celebrating its 90 th anniversary! We will have a mass and alumni reunion in November. In the next two weeks I will be explaining some major changes affecting our school building that will positively assist our school and parish buildings in the near future! I am grateful to all of you for your support and enthusiasm! Let s continue to pray and work hard for this wonderful parish of Saint Bartholomew: a Communion of Cultures a Communion of Saints. Father Rick Queridos amigos, Este fin de semana son los últimos días "oficiales" de verano. A dónde se fue el tiempo? Estoy feliz de decirles que nuestro nuevo año pastoral ha tenido un gran comienzo! Nuestros coros de adultos de vuelta están practicando en inglés y español, así como el coro para niños en español. Nuestros grupos de jóvenes se reúnen de nuevo bajo el ministerio de la Hna. Tatiana y su equipo. Este domingo estamos enviando 56 jóvenes a un retiro, éste es un número formidable, estamos muy contentos y oramos por ellos. Nuestro programa de formación en la fe comenzará el próximo fin de semana, y más de 500 ya están registrados y listos para comenzar su formación religiosa. Así es que... vamos a estar listos para darles la bienvenida el próximo domingo, los niños van a comenzar a asistir a Misa con nosotros en las Misas de 8:30 am, 10 am y 11:30 am. Nuestra Escuela Católica ha abierto con un poco más de alumnos que el año pasado, actualmente tenemos 258 niños matriculados. Por supuesto siempre estamos abiertos a aceptar más! El próximo año, nuestra escuela celebrará su 90 aniversario! Vamos a tener una Misa y una reunión de ex alumnos en Noviembre. En las próximas dos semanas voy a explicar algunos cambios importantes que afectan a nuestro edificio de la escuela para que ayuden positivamente a nuestros edificios escolares y parroquiales en un futuro próximo! 4 We are getting closer to receiving our goal we still have more than $30,000 to go! Please consider completing your pledge in FULL by the end of October if you can. It s very important that we complete our pledges and achieve our goal. Working together we will be able to do it. As of this week here s the information we have received: PLEDGED:$107,723 RECEIVED: $57,266 THANK YOU Last Sunday we took up an unannounced free-will offering for persecuted Christian families in Iraq and Syria. We collected $2363! This money will go to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) for distribution. You can make a donation directly by going online: crs.org Thank you for generosity to those most in need. BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY SAVE THE DATE Dealing with the death of family and friends is difficult and different for everyone. We are happy to announce that 4 of our parishioners have been trained by the Diocese and are ready to begin a Bereavement Ministry here at St Bart s! What is bereavement ministry? Really its an opportunity to come together to PRAY, LISTEN AND SHARE. We PRAY for those who have died, we LISTEN to the stories that people in the group choose to share and we SHARE our own story. It is not required to share...it s ok to pray and listen! Our first gathering will take place on Saturday October 4th at 11 a.m. in Heafey Hall. We hope many parishioners will take advantage of this opportunity. The day will conclude at 12:30 p.m. with light refreshments. In order for the team to prepare, they ask that you please call the rectory with your name and phone number or fill out this simple form and drop it in next week s collection. Name: Phone: SIGN UP FOR ADULT SACRAMENTS We welcome adults 18 and over who are in need of receiving their sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) to our parish! The process is called Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It s a weekly preparation program that will assist you in your faith formation and prepare you for the sacraments to be received at the Easter Vigil. There are some requirements necessary before entering this program. We will offer two information sessions which will answer all your questions! The sessions will take place Sunday, September 21 after the 10 a.m. mass (English) and after the 11:30 a.m. mass (Spanish) in the faith formation office (Judge St) For more information, contact Sr Lucy or Dennis Mantilla at x5. Blessing of the Animals We will bless all the animals of our parish on Saturday, October 4th, the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, at 1 p.m. on the front steps of the main church. Bring your pets. and cameras!! This is wonderful tradition at St. Bart s and not to be missed!! SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us as we welcome Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio to our parish for the celebration of Confirmation. The ceremony will take place on Friday, October 17 at 5 p.m. in the main church. About 80 your people will receive the sacrament. Yesterday they participated in a retreat at the Marian Shrine in Haverstraw NY. Please keep these young people in your prayers during this special time.

5 SACRAMENTOS PARA ADULTOS Invitamos a los adultos de 18 años o más quienes están necesitando recibir los sacramentos de iniciación (Bautizo, Eucaristía y Confirmación) en nuestra parroquia! El proceso se llama Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (RICA). Es un programa semanal que los prepara en la formación en la fe y los prepara para los sacramentos que se recibían en la Vigilia Pascual. Hay algunos requisitos necesarios antes de participar en este programa. Estaremos ofreciendo dos sesiones informativas durante las cuales le contestamos todas sus preguntas!
