1 Easy step #4: Practice every chance that you can You will be surprised at the opportunities there are to find yourself with someone that speaks Spanish. Here are some fun suggestions. First, learn how to introduce yourself properly: Hola, me llamo David. Cómo te llamas? Soy de Estados Unidos. De dónde eres? Estoy aprendiendo español. Podemos practicar? Second, visit these places to practice: Restaurants: Speak with the servers. Ask them for recommendations about the food and order it in Spanish. Ask them where they are from and what they like to do for fun. Stores that you visit frequently: Introduce yourself. After meeting the persons, you can thing about making small talk and asking them about things like music, sports, and the weather. Bars/Cafés: Go in and order something to drink. If you see someone else, introduce yourself and offer him or her a beer or a cup of coffee. If you can get comfortable introducing yourself in Spanish, you will be able to start speaking with people almost everywhere you go. It can be a little intimidating at first, but have fun with it and keep trying every time it will get a little bit more comfortable and more enjoyable. On the next few pages, I am including a few conversational activities from my book Let s Start Talking - A bilingual book for English and Spanish students. Once you have your conversation partner, no matter what your level is, you can use these questions to make friendly conversation. 1
