2 Module 11 Objectives Hello! Are you ready for a new week? I'm sure that ELF has been a great experience for you so far, but there are lots of new contents and topics ahead... We've got a huge objective this week... Conditionals! That's right. In this week, we will study the structure of conditional sentences and tenses. How can we understand the main idea beneath a conditional sentence? Well, the most important characteristic of a conditional sentence is the uncertainty of occurrence. In other words, we don't know -or we are not surewhether the action will or won't happen. When you say I will stay in Chicago -for example-, you are stating that this action will actually happen. The same certainty is expressed when you say It has rained since Sunday. It is sure that the action has really happened. However, when you say in Spanish Podría llover mañana, or Tú deberías ir al cine a ver esa película, the story changes a little bit. There isn't certainty in these sentences. We are not sure that these actions will effectively happen. And this is when conditionals must be applied. There are two groups of conditionals in English. The fist one is called Conditional Simple, and it works with the word Would. It works just like Will does for the future tense. On the other hand, there are Compound Conditionals with the words Could and Should. What do they mean? How do they work? How can we build sentences with them? Don't worry, because we will learn entirely this topic in Module 11. We will also study verbs To Keep, To Stay, and To Spend, which we left pending from Module 10. Finally, there is a surprise for you... I will introduce a new resource: Slang Words with Max! Are you ready to learn idioms and slang? I will show you modern and commonly used informal words, in order to improve the understanding of native speech. These video series will be free for ELF students, and I'm sure you will love it!
