Wallace y Dr. Roberto Rico Martínez Duración del curso 2 semanas Costo del curso Descripción del curso Es un curso de dos semanas que incluye información en los elementos que debe contener cada una de las secciones de un manuscrito científico (artículo de investigación en revista arbitrada y/o indizada, un artículo de revisión, tesis, propuesta de investigación, etc.). Además de abordar tópicos sobre el imperialismo prospectivo del idioma inglés, situaciones éticas, discriminación de la mujer en la editorial científica, plagio, etc. Además de dedicar las últimas dos sesiones (dos días) a trabajar en los manuscritos específicos que traiga cada asistente al curso. Dirigido a: Estudiantes de maestría y/o doctorado, investigadores, académicos, profesionales y todo aquel que requiera escribir manuscritos científicos. Wallace es Patricia and Philip McCullough Professor of Biology at the Department of Biology in Ripon College, Wisconsin. Ha escrito más de 40 artículos de investigación en revistas indizadas (Ecology, Freshwater Biology, Hydrobiologia, Integrative and Comparative Biology, Invertebrate Biology, Natural Resource Modelling, entre otras). Ha escrito más de 10 capítulos en libros de texto de editoriales como: Harper Collins, Macmillan, Academic Press, Benjamin Cummings. Ha editado tres volúmenes de memorias de Simposios de Rotíferos en la revista Hydrobiologia. El Dr. Roberto Rico Martínez ha sido profesor/investigador del Departamento de Química de la Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes por 16 años. Ha escrito más de 45 artículos en revistas indizadas (Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, Environmental Pollution, Environmental Science and Technology, Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Hydrobiologia, entre otras). Ha sido autor de nueve capítulos de libro. Fundador de la revista Scientiae Naturae. Fue uno de seis editores invitados (Guest Editors) del volumen 593 (Advances in Rotifer Research) de la revista alemana Hydrobiologia publicada por Springer (ISSN ). Actualmente es miembro del Comité Editorial de la revista Aquatic Science and Technology (

3 Nivel II del S.N.I. Recientemente obtuvo la Beca Fulbright/García-Robles por su proyecto sobre la estimación de toxicidad del petróleo de la poza Macondo por el que realizó una estancia sabática de 10 meses en el Georgia Institute of Technology en E.U.A.

4 Contenido del curso (temario): Day to day Schedule: subject to modification as appropriate Each day the participants will have time to write/edit their manuscripts. This will include one-on-one sessions with the instructors and peer review with the other participants. 1. How to write a scientific manuscript: (week 1) a) A prospective on the language imperialism of English b) Modeling (scaffolding) your writing, but not plagiarism (see also below) c) Introduction; focusing your ideas; the thesis statement; presenting your hypothesis (ses) d) Materials and methods e) Results f) Discussion or Results and Discussion; Conclusions (+ language imperialism of males) g) Summary v. Abstract h) Figures and Tables. Software tools to produce figures i) Constructing a good Title j) Literatures Cited (References) v. bibliography: annotated bibliography or using a PDF reference managing systems (e.g., EndNote) k) Acknowledgments l) Scientific abbreviations 2. Selecting a scientific journal in which to publish presentation and discussion and journal Impact Factors (IF) and other indexes of citation impacts. 4 hours (half a day) 3.
