1 INSTRUCCIONES PARA LOS AUTORES Zoologica baetica es una revista de la Universidad de Granada destinada a la publicación de trabajos científicos (artículos, notas, comentarios de libros, etc) inéditos que traten cualquier aspecto de la Zoología. Los artículos podrán presentarse en Castellano o Inglés, siendo el autor(es) el responsable de las opiniones manifestadas. Su aceptación será acordada en cada caso por el Comité de Redacción de la revista, previa evaluación por al menos dos revisores especializados. Composición de los artículos 1. Título: el título irá seguido de su traducción al inglés, sin uso continuo de mayúsculas, con los nombres de los taxones a nivel de género y especie en cursiva, y con referencia, en su caso, a un taxón de nivel de familia y otro de nivel superior. 2. Nombre(s) del autor(es). 3. Dirección del autor(es). 4. Notas de la primera página, ej.: Dirección del autor al que se debe remitir la correspondencia, financiación, etc Palabras clave en Castellano seguidas de Key words en Inglés. 6. Resumen en Castellano, seguido de Summary en Inglés. 7. Texto del artículo estructurado de la siguiente forma: introducción, material y métodos, resultados, discusión, conclusiones, agradecimientos y bibliografía. No se admitirán notas a pie de página. 8. Los subapartados y, si es necesario, otras subdivisiones deben estar claramente marcadas. 9. Deberán seguirse las normas del Código Internacional de Nomenclatura Zoológica. Todos los taxones animales a nivel de género y especie que se mencionen en el texto deberán llevar, al menos una vez, el nombre del autor y el año de descripción. En todo caso, los nombres latinos de los taxones a nivel de género y especie deben escribirse en cursiva. 10. El texto del artículo se redactará de forma clara y concisa, a doble espacio y con caracteres tipo (Times New Roman, tamaño de letra 12) en tamaño de página A Al hacer referencia a figuras o tablas, si la palabra forma parte del texto de la frase, deberá aparecer de la siguiente forma: Figura 7, Tabla V. Entre paréntesis Figura puede abreviarse como (Fig. 7). Cuando se haga referencia a figuras o tablas en general, sin especificar un número, deberán emplearse las minúsculas. 12. Las referencias a los autores dentro del texto deberán realizarse del siguiente modo: cuando forma parte de la frase, el nombre del autor deberá escribirse en minúsculas

2 190 con la fecha de publicación entre paréntesis, ej.:... fue introducido por Cassagnau (1961) para... ; de otra forma la referencia completa irá incluida entre paréntesis, separando el nombre del autor y la fecha por una coma, ej.:... y con características típicas de estrategas de la r (McArthur & Wilson, 1967; Harper, 1979).... Cuando el número de autores de una referencia sea mayor de dos se utilizará la abreviación latina et al., ej.: (Robredo et al., 1989). Si existieran más de una referencia del mismo autor y año se distinguirán mediante letras minúsculas correlativas situadas inmediatamente detrás del año, ej.: (Pascual, 1978a, 1978b). 13. Bibliografía a) La lista de referencias bibliográficas incluirá solamente aquellas que hayan sido citadas en el texto. Las referencias bibliográficas deben ser completas. Los autores se dispondrán en orden alfabético según sus apellidos y aparecerán escritos en formato fuente tipo VERSALES. Cuando existan varias referencias de un mismo autor deben disponerse por orden cronológico, sustituyendo a partir de la segunda el nombre del autor por una línea recta. Si se citan varios trabajos de un mismo autor y año se distinguirán mediante letras minúsculas correlativas situadas inmediatamente detrás del año. b) Ejemplos: Para artículos: LANDMAN, W., OUDMAN, L. & DUIJM, M Allozymic and morphological variations in Ephippiger terrestris (Yersin, 1854) (Insecta, Orthoptera, Tettigonioidea). Salamanca. c) Las referencias de artículos que originariamente no estén escritos en caracteres del alfabeto latino deberán aparecer traducidas a un lenguaje con alfabeto latino. Aquellos trabajos que hayan sido publicados en alfabetos distintos del latino pero que proporcionen el título o un resumen en un lenguaje con alfabeto latino, deberá citarse usando la traducción dada en el trabajo original. En el caso de que no exista dicha traducción, las referencias se indicarán en el mismo idioma que el usado en el manuscrito (español o inglés), pero indicando entre paréntesis el idioma original, ej.: (en Ruso).

3 Tablas: a) Las tablas se numerarán con cifras romanas y aparecerán colocadas al final del manuscrito, tras la bibliografía. b) Las leyendas explicativas de las tablas se presentarán en página aparte, antes de las tablas, en el idioma del artículo y su correspondiente traducción a la otra lengua. c) La falta de datos en las tablas se consignará con un guión, nunca con un cero. 15. Figuras: a) Las figuras (dibujos, fotografías, mapas, gráficas, etc.) aparecerán al final del artículo, tras la bibliografía o tras las tablas, si las hubiera. b) Los dibujos, mapas y gráficos se enviarán en versión informática con una resolución mínima de 1200 puntos para las figuras en blanco y negro o de 300 puntos para las fotografías. En el caso en que el trabajo se envíe por correo ordinario, deberán presentarse las figuras originales, en cuyo caso los dibujos se realizarán con tinta china negra sobre papel vegetal o sobre cartulina blanca. c) El tamaño de las figuras se ajustará o será proporcional al tamaño final de publicación (12,5 x 19 cm.). Las letras, números arábigos, símbolos, medidas, etc., que figuren en las figuras serán de tal tamaño que sean legibles al reducirse a las dimensiones finales de publicación. d) Las fotografías pueden ser tanto en color como en blanco y negro, de calidad y bien contrastadas. En todos los casos se incluirá una escala gráfica. Las fotografías en color se editarán en color sólo en la versión on-line, en formato pdf, de los artículos, pero aparecerán publicadas en blanco y negro en la versión impresa de la revista. e) Las figuras se numerarán con números arábigos consecutivos. Las páginas de las figuras deberán indicar en la parte superior de cada página la figura a la que corresponde. f) Se recomienda la utilización de mapas que lleven coordenadas U.T.M. g) Las leyendas explicativas de las figuras se presentarán en página aparte, antes de las figuras. Las leyendas de las figuras deberán aparecer en el idioma del artículo y traducidas a la otra lengua. 16. Apéndices: Seguirán las instrucciones dadas para las tablas y aparecerán al final del artículo, tras las tablas y las figuras, si las hubiese. Los apéndices se numerarán con números arábigos. 17. Los manuscritos e ilustraciones originales se enviarán por correo electrónico a los editores de la revista (fspinero@ugr.es, jmtdef@ugr.es) como ficheros adjuntos en formato Word. Los trabajos también pueden ser enviados, junto con dos copias completas, a la redacción de la revista por correo ordinario. Notas Las notas se prepararán siguiendo las mismas instrucciones que para los artículos, pero sin incluir palabras clave ni resumen. El texto de las notas no se dividirá en secciones diferenciadas (introducción, material y métodos, resultados, discusión, conclusiones) como en los artículos, aunque esté estructurado según dicho esquema.

4 192 Agradecimientos y bibliografía, así como tablas y figuras, si las hubiese, se prepararán también siguiendo las instrucciones dadas para los artículos. Comentarios de libros Los comentarios de libro se prepararán siguiendo las mismas instrucciones de formato que para los artículos. Deberán incluir la referencia completa del libro a comentar, texto del comentario y, al final de éste, el nombre de los autores del comentario y sus direcciones. La revista enviará, gratuitamente, al autor con el que se mantenga la correspondencia el archivo en formato pdf del artículo.

5 INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS Zoologica baetica, a journal edited by the University of Granada, publishes hitherto unpublished papers (articles, short communications, book reviews, etc.) dealing with all aspects of Zoology. Papers may be submitted for publication either in Spanish or English. The author(s) will bear the sole responsibility for the opinions expressed therein. All submissions will be peer reviewed by at least two independent reviewers, but final acceptance for publication will lie with the Editorial Board of Zoologica baetica. Layout 1. Title: the title, in English should be followed by a version in Spanish. Capital letters should not be used throughout the title, except where grammatically appropriate. Genus and species names should be italicized, with due reference to family and one other higher taxonomic level. 2. Name(s) of author(s). 3. Address(es) of author(s). 4. Notes to first page, e.g. Author to whom correspondence should be addressed, funding, etc. 5. Key words in English, followed by Palabras clave in Spanish. 6. Summary in English followed by a Resumen in Spanish. 7. The text of the paper should be laid out in sections in the following sequence: Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusions; Acknowledgements; Bibliography. Footnotes are not admitted. 8. Subsections and, if necessary, further subdivisions should be clearly subtitled. 9. The norms and recommendations of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature should be followed at all times. When citing animal taxa at the genus and species level the name of the author and year of description should be given at least once. Latin designations of genus and species should be italicized. 10. The text of the papers should be written as clearly and succinctly as possible, double spaced and in type characters (Times New Roman, font size 12) on A4-sized paper. 11. References to specific figures and tables in the text should appear as: Figure 7; Table V. In round brackets, Figure should be abbreviated to (Fig. 7). When figures and tables are referred to in general, without a designated number, lower-case letters should be used. 12. References to authors within the text should be made in the following way: when forming an integral part of the sentence the author s name is written in lower

6 194 case with the first letter capitalized and with the year of publication in round brackets, e.g.... was introduced by Cassagnau (1961) for... ; otherwise the whole reference is included in round brackets with a comma separating the author s name from the date, e.g.... and with characteristics typical of r strategies (McArthur & Wilson, 1967; Harper, 1979).... When more than two authors are involved, the first author s name should be cited followed by et al. in italics or underlined, e.g. (Robredo et al., 1989). In the case of reference being made to separate publications by the same author in any one year, they should be distinguished by a lower-case letter after the year in question, e.g. (Pascual, 1978a, 1978b). 13. Bibliography: a) The references should include only those cited in the main body of the text and should be complete. Authors are to be listed alphabetically according to surnames and should be written in SMALL CAPS font type. When several references are made to the same author, they should be arranged chronologically, the author s name being replaced by a straight line after the first of them. Salamanca. c) References of papers published using any alphabet other than Latin should be translated into a language with a Latin alphabet. Papers published in an alphabet other than Latin but providing a title or summary in a language with a Latin alphabet should be cited using the translation given in the original paper. If there is no such translation, references should be rendered into the same language of the manuscript (Spanish or English) and followed (in round brackets) by an indication of the original language, e.g. (from the Russian original).

7 Tables: a) Tables should be numbered in Roman numerals and placed at the end of the manuscript, after the Bibliography section. b) Table captions should be written on a separate sheet, placed before the tables, both in the language of the paper and in translation. c) Lack of data in tables should be indicated by a dash, never a zero. 15. Figures: a) Figures (drawings, photographs, maps, graphs, etc.) should be placed at the end of the manuscript, after the Bibliography section and tables, if they appear. b) Drawings, maps, and graphs are to be sent in electronic format by with a minimum resolution of 1200 points for black and white figures or 300 points for photographs. If the manuscript is sent by ordinary mail, the original figures should be submitted drawn in Indian ink on rice paper or a thin white card. c) Figure size must either fit or be proportional to the page format size 12.5 cm x 19 cm. In the latter case, all letters, Arabic numbers, symbols, measurements, etc. should be of adequate size to remain legible when reduced to page format. d) Photographs can be both in colour and in black and white, and should be of good quality and with clear contrast. An indication of scale should always be included. Colour photographs will be published in colour only in the online (pdf format) version of the paper, but they will appear published in black and white in the printed version of the journal. e) Figures should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Each figure page must indicate the corresponding figure number at the top of the page. f) It is recommended that maps should be provided with U.T.M. coordinates. g) Figure captions should be written on a separate sheet, placed before the figures, both in the language of the paper and in translation. 16. Appendixes: The format should follow instructions provided for tables and should be placed at the end of the manuscript, after tables and figures, if they are included in the paper. Appendixes should be numbered in Arabic numerals. 17. Manuscripts should be submitted as attached files via to the editors of the journal (fspinero@ugr.es, jmtdef@ugr.es) in Word format. Authors can also submit their manuscripts by ordinary mail by sending three complete typescripts together with the original figures and tables and two sets of copies. Short communications Short communications should be prepared following the instructions for articles provided above, but not including Key words or Summary. The text of short communications should not include separate sections (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions) as in articles, although they should be structured following

8 196 this scheme. Acknowledgements and Bibliography, as well as tables and figures, if they appear in the short communication, should be prepared following the instructions for articles. Book reviews Book reviews should be prepared following the instructions provided for articles. They should include the complete reference of the book reviewed, the text of the review, and the name of the authors of the book review and their addresses at the end of the paper. The journal will provide a pdf file of the article free of charge to the author to whom correspondence should be addressed.
