Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 26, 2015 Message from A Guest Columnist Mass Intentions Greetings parish family of Our Lady of Lourdes: This June, my sisters and I were blessed with the opportunity to begin our summer serving the sick as North American (Youth) Volunteers in Lourdes, France we owe it all to Msgr. Schwanger for giving us the opportunity to go. While ten days sounded like a short period of time, we returned awed at the abundance of graces that our Blessed Mother granted to us during our mission. Our service was challenging and the days were long, but with the help of Our Lady we were able to give of ourselves freely, see Jesus in others, and most importantly to live as St. Bernadette did; in humility, obedience, and simplicity. For five days straight we gladly facilitated the stay for our pilgrims. We had the privilege to serve them lunch and dinner, to provided the housekeeping, and assist them during the Rosary and Eucharistic processions. We, also, participated in daily Mass and even helped the pilgrims prepare for their appointment in the Piscines. There was even a day when we had the opportunity to renew our baptismal promises and receive the sacrament of the anointing of the sick! Not everyone goes to Lourdes to be physically healed, many of our pilgrims were just praying for hope; peace to be able to accept the difficulties of their daily lives. Their great faith was inspiring. It was a blessing to get to know and grow closer to all the pilgrims while being in such a holy place, and to be able to receive healing, not only through the water of Lourdes, but through the company of others who were on the same journey. All of them hold a special place in our hearts, each one of them has taught us something that no one else can ever teach us, and for that we will be forever thankful. The difference between visiting Lourdes and volunteering in Lourdes is that you don t only get to dig deep into the footsteps of St. Bernadette and the apparitions of Our Lady; you actually get to be part of someone s miracle and that is such an extraordinary gift. Lourdes is a special place that was made holy by our Blessed Mother through the faith of St. Bernadette in 1858. We realized that today it remains holy through those who believe in the miracles of Lourdes, and through those who selflessly give of themselves to serve all year long to make Lourdes what it is today. If you feel like you are being called by Our Lady, we encourage you to pray and answer the call. We need to bring Lourdes to Lourdes! Our Lady of Lourdes, Pray for us! St. Bernadette, Pray for us! Necesitamos llevar Lourdes a Lourdes! Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, ruega por nosotros. Sta. Bernardita, ruega por nosotros. Dios los bendiga, Alicia Paulino, Lisa Miller, y Samantha Miller Visite nuestro website: www.ololourdes.org
