Message From The Superintendent/President MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT/PRESIDENT MENSAJE DE BIENVENIDA DEL SUPERINTENDENTE/PRESIDENTE Geraldine M. Perri, Ph.D. Welcome! Welcome to Citrus College s summer semester, a perfect time to thrive and to grow! As springtime gives way to the warm glow of summer, we look forward to a season of both relaxation and productivity. Whether you are beginning your first semester here, returning to college, or continuing your academics, our dedicated faculty and staff are here to help you achieve your goals and accomplish your educational objectives. While it is true those objectives will differ for each student, such as obtaining a career/technical certificate, earning an associate degree, or transferring to a four-year institution, Citrus College offers a variety of opportunities that will help ensure your success. As such, I am excited to announce a new system the college is implementing to ensure more students are enrolled in the classes they seek: A new waitlist service that debuts this summer session and promises to make the process of enrolling in closed classes easier for all. In the past, once a class was closed there was little chance for students to add it to their schedules. The new system will allow students to place themselves on a waitlist for a specific course section on a first-come, first-in basis, immediately after a seat opens. This procedure will enable students to register for previously closed courses in an equitable manner, which may facilitate the completion of their educational goals in a timelier manner. Detailed information is provided online at /ar/waitlist. For 97 years, Citrus College has built a legacy of success and academic excellence that leads to the betterment of our students and our communities. That legacy continued this year as we learned of the college s inclusion in the Top 50 rankings of the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, a nationally recognized journal documenting Hispanics successes in academia. We cheered the college s men s basketball team as they capped another successful season by clinching their fourth Western State Conference title in five years, making it to the state s Final Four round. Additionally, a record number of honors students from the college presented research topics at the Honors Transfer Council of California Annual Conference and Citrus College s student produced newspaper, The Clarion, won 16 awards at the state Journalism Association of Community Colleges Conference, including the highest honors at the convention, the General Excellence Award for both the print and online publications. This summer, Citrus College offers students the opportunity to earn valuable course credits through a diverse selection of classes. You have made a wise choice to spend part of your summer season with us. I wish you well in your academic endeavors. WingSpan Guidelines Authorization Codes An Authorization Code may be provided by an instructor to students who were unable to enroll in the class through waitlist. Authorization Codes will be available from the instructor at the first class meeting for both open and closed classes. When an Authorization Code is provided by the instructor you will be allowed to add a class that has begun. During Late Registration all classes will have a "Last Day to Add" date and the Authorization Codes will be effective through that "Last Day." Students will have access to the WingSpan Registration System from 6 a.m. - midnight seven days a week (excluding maintenance periods) to Add or Drop before the deadlines. If you receive an Authorization Code from the instructor, you will use it to add the class online. The instructor has the discretion to issue Authorization Codes when he or she has space available in the class. Once you have the code, you may enter it into WingSpan when asked to provide the code upon registering online. You will also update your payment at the same time, online. You may use the code only one time. It will have an expiration date and only one person may use each code. Once you have used the Authorization Code it becomes invalid. Important! Financial Aid Four Easy Steps to Receiving Financial Aid STUDENTS MUST REAPPLY FOR EACH ACADEMIC YEAR Step 1. Apply: Submit the FAFSA application online at www.fafsa.gov. Once this process has been completed, students will receive a Document Tracking e-mail from the Financial Aid Office. This will notify the student of the required documents that must be submitted in order to complete the financial aid process. Step 2. Follow Up: Submit all required documentation in a timely manner, this will allow the financial aid office to review the information and process it accordingly. This step may take some time to complete, which is why it is important to submit the documents early and be patient while we complete the process. Step 3. Review: Once a student s file has been completed by the Financial Aid Office, the student will receive their Award Notification e-mail. This will inform the student of what their financial aid award will consist of for the academic year. Review this e-mail; if there are any questions regarding the information in this e-mail, feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office. Step 4. Disbursement: Now that the student has received their electronic "Award Notification," the final step is receiving the financial aid disbursement. Students will receive their financial aid grants by mail in the form of a refund check. For students that have completed the financial aid process and have received their "Award Notification" before the semester begins, they will have their Pell Grant award available in the bookstore during the first week of classes. This may be used to purchase books and other materials. The remainder will be sent out in the first refund disbursement. Important Reminders Students must activate their Citrus College e-mail account, all communication between the college and the student will be done electronically. Students must refer to the website for disbursement dates and information. The FAFSA application must be renewed each year. The application is available online on January 1 of every year.
