OR REERENCE ONLY NOT OR PBLIC The musical life of Daniel Alomía Robles is very interesting due to his contributions based on his investigations of traditional Andean musical forms, esecially a form called entafonía incaica. Having been a medical student, he decided to abandon the medical field and instead ursued his musical studies hich he had begun ith the maestros Manuel de la Cruz Panzino and Claudio Rebagliati. He dedicated himself to traveling through the various tons of Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, notating and comiling the traditional Andean melodies that he heard there. This fragment of El cóndor asa corresonds to the final art of the first movement. Latin-American musicians ho in the 1960s had heled sread a stereotyical Incan reertoire, rincially in Euroe, carried ith them this melody, to hich American oular musician Paul Simon later added lyrics and then recorded ith his duet Simon Garfunkel, ith the title of If I Could. The recording as roduced ithout giving credit of authorshi to Alomía Robles, hich resulted in one of the most famous lasuits in music history. The case as finally resolved in 1970 in favor of its author. Alomía Robles body of comositional ork has been assembled by his son Armando Robles Godoy under the title Hymn to the Sun, hich is comrised of 696 folk ieces, 10 comositions (among them oeras, oerettas, masses, symhonic oems and other orks) and nearly 70 Quechua oems translated to Sanish. El cóndor asa, the most idely knon art of this zarzuela, can be found in aroximately,500 versions around the orld and is ithout a doubt the single best musical reresentative of Peru and the Andes. This symhonic version of El cóndor asa is art of the concert series CAMINOS DEL INKA, a musical ourney (.caminosdelinka.net) and has been erformed by the Chicago Symhony Orchestra, Atlanta Symhony Orchestra, ort Worth Symhony Orchestra, among others and it has been recorded by the Lima Philharmonic Orchestra in the album Alma del Perú (ilarmonika). This articular orchestral version brings the classical symhonic sounds (unlike a os arrangement) mixed ith the colors of local Andean music by using the Andean bombo, rainstick and seeds, as ell as the flutes resembling the sound of the quenas (Andean flute).
