Many of you will recall that recently Fr. Alberto announced that he has been assigned to be the pastor at St. Mary s in Lockhart. He will be leaving us at the beginning of July. This is truly a great loss for our parish. During his announcement he also included that there is not a priest coming to replace him. This reality challenges us to continue to pray for more vocations to the priesthood. This reality also will put many more responsibilities on the shoulders of Fr. Jonathan and myself. After much prayer and deliberation, I have made the difficult decision that the Sunday 7PM Mass will be cancelled when Fr. Alberto departs. Consequently, the last day this Mass will be celebrated is July 3rd, the last day Fr. Alberto is with us. I realize this will cause inconvenience for some of you and I apologize for that. Nevertheless, I ask for your support in this very difficult decision and again challenge all of us to pray for more priestly vocations especially from our Hispanic communities. Fr. Padre Dean Mary DiBonito Roofing Construction & Consulting 608 Scenic Path Leander TX 78641 Please patronize and thank our bulletin sponsors.
A few words from Fr. Alberto J. Borruel: As many of you know, our Bishop, Joe Vasquez has appointed me as the Pastor of St. Mary of the Visitation in Lockhart, TX to take effect at the beginning of July. This is my last weekend here at St. William. Needless to say I have mixed feelings leaving this beautiful and awesome parish. However, I do trust in our Lord Jesus Christ who, I believe, is leading me to this new assignment and as his servant I am obedient to His will. I am truly grateful to our Bishop, Joe Vasquez for his confidence in considering me for this new parish assignment. As many of you know, I came to St. William under the leadership of Fr. Joel McNeil and remained here during the transition of receiving our new pastor, Fr. Dean Wilhelm and a new associate pastor Fr. Jonathan Raia. Although he is no longer here I would like to publically thank Fr. Joel for his leadership during the one year I served with him. To Fr. Jonathan Raia, it s been wonderful working and collaborating with him and I would also like to thank him for his support while our pastor was away. I would like to personally thank Fr. Dean Wilhelm for his wonderful leadership and guidance and giving me the opportunity to serve as acting pastor during his sabbatical. It truly was a learning experience and most importantly a time of preparing me for what is to come. To the deacons who serve St. William, thank you for your dedication and service to the parish and the universal church. Your assistance in ministry has truly been a blessing to me in the priestly ministry. To the parish staff, thank you for your time, energy and dedication to serving the people of the parish and helping me in ministering to them. Finally, thank you to all of you the parishioners of St. William for welcoming me and allowing me be a part of your lives. It has truly been a joy serving you. You have truly been a huge part of my life and all of you in many ways have helped me grow in my faith and being the priest I am today. With only two priests now serving, I ask you to please support and pray for Fr. Dean and Fr. Jonathan as they continue the task of ministering to you, the parishioners of St. William. I also ask you for your prayers as I take on the role of pastor that I truly be a good and holy shepherd to the people that the Lord has now entrusted to me. Know that all of you, the parishioners of St. William, will always be in my heart and prayers. Again, thank you all for you have done for me these past three years and may God bless you all. Bendiciones, Rev. Alberto J. Jennifer Fulwiler, Blogger for the National Catholic Register July 21 All are invited to a presentation by Jennifer Fulwiler, Blogger for the National Catholic Register. Come hear the story of her conversion and how she blogged and researched her way from lifelong Atheist to devout Catholic. The presentation will be held on Thursday, July 21, from 7 p.m. 9 p.m. at St. William Catholic Church - Parish Hall. I started an anonymous blog called The Reluctant Atheist and recruited Christians to come comment on my posts and explain their belief to me. We were both surprised, then, when months of research led us to the one place we said we wouldn t go: we both joyfully entered the Catholic Church at Easter Vigil in 2007... Jennifer Fulwiler s writing has been published in over a dozen publications and she has been featured on EWTN television and various national radio networks. She's also a columnist for Envoy magazine and a regular guest on EWTN Radio's SonRise Morning Show. The presentation is free. Registration is not required. Fiesta Garage Sale a Huge Success Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a great success! As you may have noticed in the bulletin, the Fiesta Garage Sale was a huge success, making $14,689. This was due to all the help we received from parishioners (and non-parishioners) who donated items, used their time and vehicles to pick up large items, took the time to sort, price, sell and clean up. Groups included the Boy Scouts (signs), Wilco Young Adults (hauling), Jr. Catholic Daughters (breakfast), and Denise and Lee Jensen (nonparishioners) who donated space at their McNeil @ CR 172 Office/ Warehouse facility. To all involved in this endeavor, the Fiesta Garage Sale Committee sincerely offers our thanks and prayers. Theology of the Body Study Series Open to Young Adults of Austin Starting July 7 Freedom is a powerful word. The world says freedom is the ability to do what we want, whenever we want, with whomever we want. But has this led to strong relationships, strong families, or strong communities? Since the days of the sexual revolution, the opposite has played out resulting in sexual chaos, exploitation, broken families, and a lot of pain. Recognizing the world s confusion, Pope John Paul II proclaimed the Theology of the Body a profound message of love and human sexuality. In it, he declared that authentic freedom is meant to lead to authentic love. Freedom to Love is a powerful, five-part study based on the Theology of the Body that is specifically intended for young adults and college students and is presented by popular author and expert Christopher West. In it he lays out a convincing and refreshing road map to living a life of authentic freedom and love. This DVD and workbook study will be held on Thursdays, July 7, 14, 21, 28 and August 4 from 7-9 p.m. at Emmaus Catholic Parish at the Youth Space in the PLC. It is open to all young adults ages 18-39 and is free, aside from an optional workbook purchase. To register, email TOBAustin@gmail.com.
