2 Saint Charles Parish San Diego / Imperial Beach Page Two SO THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE It is not often that the author of one of the books of the Bible comes right out and tells us directly why he is writing what he is writing. In this Sunday s Gospel reading, taken from the conclusion of John s Gospel, the author tells us that he has chosen to record these events so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name (20:31). The letter of John echoes this idea by saying that [e]veryone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God (5:1) what we might refer to as being born again. Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles for this Second Sunday of Easter shows us exactly what it looks like when believers are born again through faith. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. The Feast of Divine Mercy Please plan to attend April 8th the Feast of Divine Mercy, the second Sunday of Easter, after the 1:00 PM Mass. We will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by inspirational readings, benediction, and blesing of the images. Jesus said to St. Faustina: "I am offering people a vessel with which they are to keep coming for graces to the fountain of mercy. That vessel is this image with the signature: "Jesus I Trust in You". (Diary of St. Faustina, 327) "The soul that will go to confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment... Let no soul fear to draw near to me, even though its sins be as scarlet... mankind will have no peace until it turns to the Fount of My mercy." (Diary 699) Our Lord's promise to grant complete forgiveness of sins and punishment on the Feast of Divine Mercy for the faithful who are in a state of grace, to confess all serious sins through the Sacrament of Penance, to receive Communion and to pray for the Holy Father's intentions by reciting the Lord's Prayer, the Apostle's Creed, and end with the Ejaculation, "Merciful Jesus, I trust in You." 5 Page Five Domingo de la Divina Misericordia 8 de Abril de 2018 PARA QUE CREAS No sucede demasiado a menudo que el autor de uno de los libros de la Biblia se dirija directamente a nosotros para explicarnos por qué está escribiendo lo que está escribiendo. En la lectura del Evangelio de este domingo, que pertenece a la conclusión del Evangelio según san Juan, el autor nos dice que ha elegido escribir estos acontecimientos para que crean que Jesús es el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios, y para que, creyendo, tengan vida en su Nombre (20:31).
