4 MARCH 11, 2012/11 DE MARZO, 2012 UPDATE ON OUR PASTOR, FR. FERNANDO MOLINA RESTREPO Thank you so very much for your thoughts and prayers. Fr. Fernando s surgery went very well. He will be unavailable for the next few weeks while he recovers. All cards and well wishes may be sent to him at the parish office and will be forwarded on to him immediately. Please keep him in your prayers while he recovers. Thank you. CATECHUMENS AND CANDIDATES MOVE CLOSER TO EASTER SACRAMENTS Since last August our Catechumens and Candidates have been committed to the RCIA process. Part of that process included our responsibility as a parish to join with the sponsors to make a preliminary judgment concerning the state and progress of their formation process. On February 19 th we did this through the celebration of the Rite of Sending at the 10 am Mass. Through this Rite the community had the opportunity to express its approval of the Catechumens and Candidates, and to send them on to their next rites celebrated on February 26 th at the Atlanta Civic Center. The Rite of Election for the Catechumens is called election because the acceptance made by the Church is founded on the election by God, in whose name the Church acts. The use of the election can be a little confusing because in our secular and political culture the use of the Pictured is Candidate Scott Daniel, with St. Theresa Parishioner Tom Warren. word can imply winners and losers. That is not the meaning here. The emphasis here is on the choice meaning the awareness that God has chosen each and every one of the Catechumens to become a member of His church through Baptism. This election presumes that the Catechumen has undergone a conversion in mind and in action, and to have developed sufficient acquaintance with Christian teaching as well as a spirit of faith and charity. For our Candidates (those already validly baptized) the Rite is known as the Call to Continuing Conversion. They are presented as seeking to complete their preparation so as to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. They are called to a deeper appreciation of the Christian baptism in which they were joined to Christ and the church. The Call to Conversion acknowledges that their names are already counted among the elect by virtue of their baptism. Our Catechumens and Candidates joined approximately 2,000 men, women and children from all over the Archdiocese of Atlanta in the celebration of these rites. These rites are marked with such solemnity that they are reserved for the Archbishop. Archbishop Wilton Gregory was the principal celebrant, and he was joined by Auxiliary Bishop Luis Zarama, priests, deacons and acolytes from around the Archdiocese of Atlanta. These Rites are indeed a turning point for Catechumens, Candidates and the whole Church. Following the Rite of Election the Catechumens even have a new name the Elect. The Elect and Candidates are now immersed in Lent fasting, praying, celebrating the scrutinies and presentations, experiencing the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time and look forward to the highlight of the liturgical year when they receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist for the first time at the Easter Vigil. Please continue to pray for our Elect and Candidates because there is still much for them to do Rites, Scrutinies, a silent retreat at Ignatius House, and further study. LOS CATECÚMENOS Y LOS CANDIDATOS SE ACERCAN A LOS SACRAMENTOS EN LA PASCUA DE RESURRECCIÓN Desde el pasado mes de agosto nuestros Catecúmenos y Candidatos se han comprometido con el proceso de RICA. Parte de ese proceso incluye nuestra responsabilidad como una parroquia a unirse a los patrocinadores para hacer un juicio preliminar sobre el estado y el progreso de su proceso formativo. El 19 de Febrero lo hicimos a través de la celebración del Rito de Envío en la Santa Misa de las 10:00 AM. A través de este Rito, la comunidad tuvo la oportunidad de expresar su aprobación a los Catecúmenos y a los Candidatos y para enviarlos a sus siguientes ritos que fueron celebrados el 26 de Febrero en Atlanta Civic Center (Centro Cívico de Atlanta). El Rito de Elección para los Catecúmenos se llama "elección" porque la aceptación de la iglesia está fundada sobre la elección por Dios, en cuyo nombre actúa la iglesia. El uso de la "elección" puede ser un poco confuso porque en nuestra cultura secular y política el uso de esta palabra puede implicar ganadores y perdedores. Este no es el sentido aquí. El énfasis aquí está en el significado de "elección" la conciencia de que Dios ha elegido a todos y cada uno de los Catecúmenos para convertirse en un miembro de su iglesia a través del bautismo. Esta elección supone que el Catecúmeno ha experimentado una conversión en mente y en la acción y que ha desarrollado suficiente conocimiento de la enseñanza cristiana, así como en un espíritu de fe y de caridad. Para nuestros Candidatos (los que ya han sido válidamente bautizado) el Rito es conocido como el Llamado a la Continua Conversión. Son presentados como Candidatos que están tratando de completar su preparación para ser recibidos en plena comunión con la Iglesia Católica. Son llamados a una apreciación más profunda del bautismo cristiano en el que se unieron a Cristo y a la iglesia. La Llamada a la Conversión reconoce que sus nombres ya se cuentan entre los elegidos en virtud de su bautismo. Nuestros Catecúmenos y Candidatos se unieron aproximadamente a 2000 hombres, mujeres y niños de toda la Arquidiócesis en la celebración de estos ritos. Estos ritos están marcados con tal solemnidad que están reservados para el Arzobispo. El Arzobispo Wilton Gregory fue el celebrante principal y se unió con el Obispo Auxiliar Zarama, los sacerdotes, los diáconos y los acólitos de alrededor de la Arquidiócesis. 6 MARZO 11, 2012/11 DE MARZO, 2012 STEWARDSHIP WORD OF WISDOM/PALABRAS DE SABIDURIA Jesus cleansing of the Temple is a familiar story as the prophets Jeremiah, Zechariah and Malachi prophesied that when the Kingdom of God was at hand, the Temple would be cleansed of all activities unworthy of an encounter with God. Stewards of the Lord s abundant gifts are referred to as the Temple of the Lord. What are we doing to be cleansed of activities unworthy of an encounter with the Lord? What are we doing to cleanse our Temple and make sacred space for the gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ? INTERCESSIONS FOR LIFE/INTERCESIONES POR LA VIDA That the heart of every expectant father may be turned toward his unborn child and his child s mother, with offerings of love and support; We pray to the Lord. WHY USE OFFERTORY ENVELOPES? La purificación de Jesús del templo es una historia familiar, profetizada por los profetas Jeremías, Zacarías y Malaquías, de que cuando el reino de Dios estuviera cerca, el Templo debería ser limpiado de todas las actividades indignas de un encuentro con Dios. Using an offertory envelope benefits both us and the Parish. It helps us to make a conscious decision about what we are going to contribute. Using offertory envelopes regularly tells our children that giving to the Church is a priority for us. Offertory in envelopes makes the ongoing budgeting process easier for the Parish, and becomes a budget item for us. The use of envelopes is an expression of how we give of ourselves in the offering of the Mass. The envelope number automatically identifies our contributions establishing our presence as active, participating Catholics at Mass and in addition helps those who want tax reporting documentation. Gifts in numbered offertory envelopes make it easier for parish staff to record our giving into the parish database. Time and money is saved by not having to look up parishioners envelope numbers. Gifts of cash, while always welcome, cannot be recorded by the giver s name without the use of offertory envelopes. Wrapping our gift to God in an envelope with our name on it makes our gift more personal. Consider this..would we give a gift to a friend and not wrap it? Would we take a present to a party and not put our name on it? Let s treat our weekly gift to God with the care and respect we would with any other gift we give, and wrap it with our name and number on it. POR QUÉ DEBEMOS UTILIZAR LOS SOBRES DEL OFERTORIO? El uso del sobre para Ofertorio nos beneficia tanto a nosotros como a la Parroquia. Nos ayuda a tomar una decisión consciente sobre lo que vamos a contribuir. Cuando utilizamos los sobres del Ofertorio regularmente le mostramos a nuestros hijos que dar a la iglesia es una prioridad para nosotros. El Ofertorio en los sobres facilita el proceso del presupuesto de la Parroquia y se convierte en un elemento de "presupuesto" para nosotros. El uso de los sobres es una expresión de cómo damos de nosotros mismos en la ofrenda de la Misa. El número en los sobres identifica automáticamente nuestras contribuciones estableciendo nuestra presencia como Católicos activos y como participantes en la Misa, y además ayuda a quienes quieren documentación para los informes de los impuestos. Las donaciones en los sobres numerados del Ofertorio hace que sea más fácil para que el personal de la Parroquia pueda archivar nuestra donación en el sistema de datos de la Parroquia. Ahorramos tiempo y dinero cuando no tenemos que buscar los números de los sobres de nuestros feligreses. Donación de dinero en efectivo, es siempre bienvenido, no se pueden archivar por el nombre del contribuidor sin el uso de sobres de Ofertorio. Envolver nuestro regalo a Dios en un sobre con nuestro nombre hace que nuestro regalo sea más personal. Considere esto.. le daríamos un regalo a un amigo y sin envolverlo? Llevaríamos un regalo a una fiesta sin poner nuestro nombre en el? Tratemos nuestro regalo semanal a Dios con el mismo cuidado y respeto que lo haríamos con cualquier otro regalo que damos y envolvámoslo con nuestro nombre y número.

RETIRO DE LA DIVINA MISERICORDIA Sean Misericordiosos como Tu Padre es Misericordoso No estamos sólo para recibir la misericordia de Dios, sino para usarla, siendo misericordioso con los demás a través de nuestras acciones, nuestras palabras y nuestras oraciones; en otras palabras, debemos practicar las Obras de Misericordia Corporal y Espiritual. El Señor quiere que nosotros hagamos estas obras de misericordia, porque incluso la fe por excelencia no ha de utilizarse sin obras. El Llamado de Jesús a la Misercordia Yo pido frutos de misericordia departe de ustedes, que se deriven del amor por Mi. Ustedes siempre han de mostrar misericordia hacia sus vecinos y en todas partes. Ustedes no deben rehuir o tartar de excusarse o absolverse de ella. Les doy tres maneras de practicar la misericordia hacia sus vecinos: la primera es por hechos; la segunda es por palabra; la tercera es por oración. En estos tres grados se figura la plenitud de la misericordia, y eso es una prueba incuestionable de su amor por Mi. De esa forma una alma glorifica y rinde reverencia a Mi misericordia. A menudo muchas almas se preocupan por que no tienen los medios materiales con los cuales puedan brindar una obra de misericordia. Sin embargo la misericordia espiritual, no requiere permisos ni almacenes, es mucho más meritorio y está al alcance de todas las almas. Si una alma no da frutos de misericordia de una manera u otra, no obtendrá Mi misericordia en el día del juicio. Oh, si sólo las almas supieran recoger tesoro eterno por si mismas, ellas no serían juzgadas, lo que permitiría evitar Mi juicio con su misericordia.
