1 RICHMOND TODAY OCTOBER 2014 A CHEVRON RICHMOND PUBLICATION Employees Meet the Neighbors BY KORY JUDD Community Tour Day was a great opportunity for our neighbors to meet us and see firsthand what we do and how we do it. Around 430 community members, employees and their families spent part of a recent Saturday visiting the 2,900-acre Richmond Refinery. Visitors boarded shuttles and were provided an hour-long guided tour of the refinery s main operating areas. After the tour, they were treated to barbecue from the Up and Under Pub in Point Richmond. There were several interactive exhibits highlighting some key refinery projects, such as our air monitoring program and our safety inspection programs. Community members also learned how Techron, which was developed right here in Richmond, keeps car engines running cleanly. We also had the chance to thank community members for supporting the Refinery Modernization Project, which was recently approved by the Richmond City Council. I appreciated the opportunity to meet so many of our neighbors and answer their questions about our refinery. Events like tour day allow us to have an open and transparent dialogue with our neighbors and are important to our success. Kory Judd is the General Manager at Chevron Richmond. 2 Employees Give Back BY LEAH CASEY Chevron employees roll up their sleeves every September and participate in our company s annual Volunteer Week. This year, 539 Chevron volunteers worked on 50 projects in Richmond, such as serving meals to the needy, planting vegetable gardens, sprucing up a historic World War II-era ship and handing out 1,000 back packs to local students. Giving our time is important because it provides an opportunity to connect with our neighbors while making an impact in the community, and it s something we commit to year-round. It also happens to be a lot of fun. This year we had more volunteers and projects than in previous years, and I m grateful to all our volunteers and nonprofit partners who helped make it possible.
