2 MENSAJE DEL PASTOR Page 2 PARA NOSOTROS, LA TRANSORMACIÓN ES UNA OPORTUNIDAD DE CRECER EN EL ESPÍRITU CON EL APOYO Y LA GRACIA DE DIOS Fue una reunión inicial muy buena este pasado lunes por la noche en el Salón de Hospitalidad. Unos cincuenta miembros de nuestra parroquia se reunieron con el fin de iniciar el programa de Transformación Parroquial. Fue muy triste que no vi las muchas caras conocidas que veo regularmente los domingos, que por alguna razón no pudieron llegar a esta primera reunión. Sin duda los echamos de menos, pero siempre hay segundas oportunidades para incorporar muchos de nuestros feligreses que quieran participar en esta iniciativa. Queremos que sean parte de estas reuniones a medida que pasan las semanas. No tienen nada que temer, ya que es un ambiente acogedor, y se pueden sentir como en casa. Cuando nos sentimos inquietos es cuando precisamente tenemos que tomar en serio el mensaje que escuchamos este fin de semana en las lecturas. A todas nuestras inquietudes y preocupación Dios nos está diciendo a través del profeta Isaías: " Se olvidará la mujer de lo que dio a luz, para dejar de compadecerse del hijo de su vientre? Aunque olvide ella, yo nunca me olvidaré de ti"(is. 49:15). Esta es la gran fuente de consuelo que recibimos al iniciar este proceso de transformación como individuos y como una comunidad parroquial de fe. En esta primera etapa del programa, vamos a seguir el diálogo y ver en profundidad quienes somos y donde hemos estado con el fin de encontrar una manera de prepararnos para transformarnos en totalidad los espíritus en esa imagen de Cristo, para que todo el mundo pueda ver que aquí, en San Bartolomé realmente hacemos nuestro mejor esfuerzo para ver a Cristo en otros. Por esta razón, para tener un corazón abierto para que Dios lo transforme, también necesitamos prestar atención a las palabras del apóstol Pablo en su primera carta a los Corintios: "Ahora bien, lo que se pide a un administrador es que sea fiel" (I Corintios 4:2). Para que seamos dignos de confianza y seguro de sí mismos debemos tener un corazón abierto al Señor y completamente confiar en Dios con el proceso de nuestra transformación adecuada. Por lo tanto, en primer lugar, necesitamos ser transparentes nosotros mismos para encontrar esa voz dentro de nosotros que nos está diciendo algo sobre nuestra necesidad de tener a Dios en nuestras vidas. En segundo lugar, debemos poner a trabajar los talentos que Dios nos ha dado para profundizar nuestra relación con Dios de una manera más íntima y también tener una unión común con otras personas que son atendidas por nuestra propia contribución o el bien común. Ahora es interesante que Jesús llama tales resultados de nuestra propia participación en los asuntos terrenales como "suficiente para un día es su propia maldad", lo que significa que si el interés por hacer algo fuera del contexto de un corazón genuino o haciéndolo con mal motivo, entonces el corazón y mente no serán agradecidos por la gracia de Dios. En este evangelio, Mateo también dijo que las cosas de este mundo caen en la segunda categoría y deben permanecer como tal, porque el reino espiritual es más importante que cualquier otra cosa. Entonces, podemos concluir que las cosas de este mundo se encargarán de ellas mismas y por salvaguardar la bondad de los corazones de muchos que están dispuestos a seguir invirtiendo en las cosas del cielo, haciendo el bien y poniendo sus talentos y sabiduría a trabajar, todo por la gloria de Dios y para difundir el mensaje, podemos declarar que vamos por el buen camino de cumplir con la voluntad de Dios porque permitimos que Dios transforme el divino corazón que gestionamos con la gracia de la sabiduría del Espíritu. Esta transformación es entonces para nosotros un buen reto para alcanzar y permitir que Dios obre en nosotros. Que Dios siga bendiciendo a todos los que por amor a la Iglesia y por la preocupación de nuestros hermanos y hermanas hacen una diferencia como miembros de San Bartolomé. Finalmente pido a todos los demás que se perdieron esta primera reunión para unirse a nuestra fuerte iniciativa que nos da la esperanza de transformar a nuestra parroquia. Padre Ric

3 PASTOR S NOTES Page 3 TRANSORMATION IS FOR US AN OPPORTUNITY TO GROW IN THE SPIRIT WITH GOD S GRACE AND SUPPORT It was indeed a very good meeting this past Monday night in the Hospitality Room. About fifty members of our parish met in order to initiate the Parish Transformation Program. It was sad that not many familiar faces we see and greet every Sunday were there. We surely missed all of you who, for some reason were not able to make it to this first meeting, but there are always second chances to incorporate many of our parish members that would like to participate in this initiative. We really want you to be a part of this gathering that will continue to meet as the weeks go by. You have nothing to fear or become hesitant about, we are all very welcoming and there is a warm atmosphere, you are able to feel at home. Whenever we feel uneasy it is precisely then that we need to take seriously the message we hear this weekend in the readings. To all our anxieties and preoccupations God is telling us through the prophet Isaiah: Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you (Is. 49:15). This is a great source of comfort we receive as we initiate this process of transformation as individuals and as a whole parish community of faith. During this first stage of the program, we will continue to dialogue and look in depth at who we are and where we have been in order to figure out a way to prepare ourselves to transform our spirits, the whole person, into that image of Christ, so that the whole world may see that here, in St. Bartholomew, we are really doing our best to be Christ and see Christ in others. For this reason, in order to have an open heart for God to transform it, we also need to heed the words of the Apostle Paul in his First Letter to the Corinthians: Now it is of course required of stewards that they be found trustworthy (I Cor. 4:2). For us to be self-confident and trustworthy, we have to have an open heart to the Lord and completely trust God with it as He leads us along the process of our proper transformation. We need to be transparent to ourselves first, to find that voice within us that is telling us something about our need of God in our lives; second, to put to work the talents God has given us to deepen our relationship with God in a more intimate way and also have a common union with others who are served by our own contribution or the common good. Now it is interesting that Jesus calls such possible outcomes of our own involvement in the earthly affairs as sufficient for a day is its own evil, meaning that if the interest for doing something out of context of a genuine heart or doing it for the wrong reason, then the heart and mind will not be appreciative of God s graces. In this gospel, Matthew also meant that the things of this world fall into the second category, and should remain as such, because the spiritual realm is more important than anything else. We can conclude then, that the things of this world will take care of themselves and that by safeguarding the goodness of the hearts of many who are willing to continue to invest in the things of heaven by doing good and putting their talents and wisdom to work, all for the glory of God and to spread the message. We may declare that we are on the right track of fulfilling God s will because we allow God to transform the God-given heart that we manage with the grace of the Spirit s wisdom. This transformation is then for us a good challenge to embrace and allow God to work in us. May God continue to bless all of you who for love of your church and out of concern for our brothers and sisters make a difference as members of St. Bart s. I finally ask all others who missed this first session to join our strong initiative that gives us high hopes of transformation from within to our whole parish. Fr. Ric

Children activities each evening. All are welcome. Lenten Regulations Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years old and older on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The Church no longer attempts to prescribe our Lenten practices in detail. The above regulations simply highlight Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and the other Fridays of Lent. Our more fundamental obligation is to make Lent a penitential season, choosing practices that are truly penitential. These Stations of the Cross will be very unique, they will be read from the point of Mary, Jesus' Mother. The doors will open at 6:30PM and at 7:00PM the meeting will start. Everyone is asked to please bring a meatless dish to share. Please come and share this special experience with us. Parish Transformation Initiative 50 parishioners attended the kickoff meeting for the Parish Transformation Initiative. We reviewed the process we will follow on our journey and discussed how we will use the next few weeks to reflect prayerfully on the mission to which we are called as a parish. If you are interested in joining this important and exciting effort, please attend the next meeting which will be held on Monday, March 3 at 7:00PM in the Hospitality Room. Baptism: During pregnancy or after birth, parents are expected to attend a Baptismal Preparation meeting held on the first Sunday of the month at 12:30PM. Baptisms are celebrated on the fourth Sunday of every month at 2:30PM. For information and registration for class and Baptism times, please telephone the rectory Marriage: For pre-marriage preparation and to assure the wedding date you prefer, please call the Rectory at least six months in advance before confirming a reception hall. Communion, Confirmation and Conversion for Adults: Please call the rectory for an appointment. Communion, Confirmation and Conversion for children: Please call the Coordinator of Religious Education. All children should be enrolled in R.E. 1st - 8th grades. Communion to the homebound: Please call the parish office with information about those who are shut-ins or sick so that visits may be made. In an emergency situation, please call immediately at any hour. Anointing of the Sick and Funerals: Please call the rectory if your family member is sick and needs the Anointing of the Sick, or when a family member dies, so that the parish priests may minister to your needs and assist you in planning the Funeral Liturgy. This includes the Wake Service, the Eucharistic Liturgy and the final commitment at the Cemetery. PREPARACION SACRAMENTAL Reconciliación: Cada Sabado a las 4:00PM. St Ferdinand Parish Annual Fish Fry St. Ferdinand Church, 3131 N. Mason will be hosting their annual Fish Fry every Friday during Lent. The menu selection features Baked Salmon, Whitefish, Beer Battered Cod, Perch, Baked Tilapia and Breaded Shrimp. Complete dinners range from $7.50 to $9.00 and include baked or fried potatoes, coleslaw, bread, butter, dessert and coffee or tea. Select children s dinners are $1.00 less on select dinners. Beer, wine, soda, cheese pizza, fried dough, mozzarella sticks, clam chowder and vegetable soup also available. Doors open at 4:00PM. We will host a St. Joseph Sweet Table on March 21 featuring sweets from our neighboring bakeries and various musical performances. March 28 Sam Magdal will entertain with his Tribute to Sinatra. All children, Preschool through 2nd grade, are welcome to come to the altar for a blessing and go downstairs to experience God's Word at a level appropriate for them.
