2 Who is St. Lucy? Why are patron saints so important in the Catholic tradition? These are two very important questions. The first can be found on any web search or in a book of saints but is the second question helps us to inform ourselves about the footsteps of who we are and how we live our Christian identity in the world today. In our Catholic Church many saints are associated with certain life situations. These patron saints intercede to God for us. We can take our special needs to them and know they will listen to our prayers, and pray to God with us. As a patron of the parish, St. Lucy, who is the patron saint of eye disorders and the blind helps us to see. Many people around the world pray with her to be with them during struggles with eye problems. As parishioners of the parish placed under her patronage we may not have the physical illnesses of the eyes but we have difficulty seeing many things in our lives where sin has blinded us and where God s healing and mercy is desperately needed. Our call to the stewardship of our time, talent and treasure is to see the generosity and abundance of God s grace and blessings surrounding us and flowing into our lives. When we pray with our patron, St. Lucy, I recommend at least 10 minutes each day, we allow our eyes to see the truth of God s love. God Bless, Fr. Mark. St. Lucy's is blessed to have seminarian, Eric Piczon, serving with us for his Pastoral Year. Here's a little bit about Eric: I was born in the Philippines and I lived there until I finished my Bachelor degree in Computer Science. I came to the United States in October Prior to my entrance to the seminary, I mainly worked in the retail business. My last job was a salesperson and technician at Sprint PCS. I heard my vocation to the priesthood when I was a child. As I grew up, I became interested in religious studies. When I came here in the US, I participated in Bible studies, in recollections, in young adult groups, and in Catholic Communities. My love for the liturgy and holy hours also grew. In 2011, after deciding to ask the help of my spiritual director, we discerned that I should apply to be a seminarian for the Diocese of San Jose. I began my seminary formation at St. Patrick's in August of I just finished my Second Year in Theology at St. Patrick's Seminary and University in Menlo Park. I look forward to meeting with the people of St Lucy parish and serving in the various ministries that evangelize the Campbell community. Welcome Eric! 3 Quién es Santa Lucía? Por qué son tan importantes los santos patronos en la tradición católica? Estas son dos preguntas muy importantes. La respuesta para la primera pregunta se puede encontrar en cualquier búsqueda del web o en un libro de los santos, pero es la segunda respuesta que nos ayuda a informarnos sobre las huellas de lo que somos y cómo vivimos nuestra identidad cristiana en el mundo actual. En nuestra Iglesia Católica muchos santos se asocian con ciertas situaciones de la vida. Estos santos patronos interceden ante Dios por nosotros. Podemos llevarles nuestras necesidades y sabemos que van a escuchar nuestras oraciones, y van a orar con nosotros. Como patrón de la parroquia, Santa Lucía, que es el santo patrón de los trastornos oculares y los ciegos nos ayuda a ver. Personas en todo el mundo oran con ella para que ella este con ellos durante sus luchas con problemas en los ojos. Como feligreses de la parroquia colocados bajo su patrocinio puede ser que no tenemos las enfermedades físicas de los ojos pero tenemos la dificultad para ver muchas cosas en nuestras vidas cuando el pecado nos ha cegado y donde se necesita desesperadamente curación y misericordia de Dios. Nuestro llamado para la administración de nuestro tiempo, talento y tesoro es ver la generosidad y la abundancia de la gracia y las bendiciones de Dios que nos rodea y fluye en nuestras vidas. Cuando oramos con nuestra patrona, Santa Lucía, recomiendo al menos 10 minutos cada día, permitimos que nuestros ojos vean la verdad del amor de Dios. Comencé mi formación en el seminario de St. Patricio en agosto de Acabo de terminar mi segundo año de Teología en el Seminario de San Patricio y la Universidad en Menlo Park. Estoy muy entusiasmado con mi reunión con la parroquia de Santa Lucía y de servir en los diversos ministerios que evangelizan a comunidad de Campbell. Bienvenido Eric!
