2 Health Note When we start to see those cool winter days roll in, we have two choices: we can pull the covers over and go back to sleep or we can suit up and head out for an outdoor adventure! To remind and help us stay active during the winter season, we are sharing highlights from the Cold Weather Fitness Guide, published by the American Heart Association. Cooler Weather = Big Opportunity We are reminded that there s no need to take a break from physical activity when the temperature drops. In fact, take a look at the advantages exercising in cooler weather has over working out in warmer weather: 1. Don t have heat and humidity to deal with 2. Winter s chill can make you feel awake and invigorated 3. Not only that, you can work out harder in the cold weather which means you burn even more calories 4. Heading outside in the winter is also a great way to take in the sunlight (in small doses). Not only does light dramatically improve many people s moods, it also helps you get the vitamin D. It s a Cool Fact: Walking Works! According to American Health Association, people are more likely to stick with walking than any other type of exercise, and that s good news for the following five reasons: 1. It s efficient. Just 30 minutes of walking a day can improve your circulation, lower your choles terol and blood pressure, and help you lose weight. 2. It s free. The only thing you need to start is a pair of supportive walking shoes. 3. It s simple. There s no equipment required, nothing complicated to learn, and you can do it right where you are. Just step outside. 4. It s easy to fit it. Run errands, walk the dog, take a lunchtime walk, catch up with friends or spend time with your significant other during an evening walk, or bundle up your kids and walk as a family. There are dozens of ways to fit in bursts of walking this season. 5. It s customizable. By changing up the time, distance, pace and route, you can create the right walking program for you. 3 Enero 2016 Nota para Su Salud Cuando vemos que los días frescos de invierno comienzan a llegar, tenemos dos alternativas: podemos tirar de las cobijas para cubrirnos y regresar a dormir o vestirnos y salir a una aventura al aire libre! Para ayudarnos a permanecer activos durante la temporada de invierno, veamos algunos de los consejos de la Guía de Salud para la Temporada Fresca ( Cool Weather Finess Guide, en inglés), publicada por la Asociación American del Corazón. Clima Frío = Gran Oportunidad Se nos recuerda que no hay ninguna razón para que tomemos un descanso de la actividad física cuando la temperatura desciende. De hecho, mire cuantas ventajas hay de hacer ejercicio durante un clima más fresco comparado con un tiempo más cálido: 1. No hay que preocuparse por el calor ni la humedad 2. El frio de invierno puede hacerte sentir despierto y vigorizado 3. No sólo eso pueda trabajar más fuerte durante el clima frío- lo que significa que usted quema aún más calorías 4. Pasar tiempo fuera en el invierno también es una gran manera de tomar la luz del sol (en pequeñas dosis). No sólo tiene luz el efecto dramático de mejorar el estados de ánimo de muchas personas, también le ayuda a obtener la vitamina D. Es un Hecho Frío: El Caminar Funciona! De acuerdo a la Asociación Americana de Corazón, es más probable que las personas se adhieran a caminar que a cualquier otro tipo de ejercicio, y esto es una gran noticia por las cinco razones siguientes: 1. Es eficiente. Tan sólo 30 minutos de caminata al día puede mejorar su circulación, bajar su coles terol y presión arterial y ayudarle a perder peso. 2. Es gratis. Lo único que necesita para empezar es un par de zapatos apropiados para caminar. 3. Es simple. No requiere ningún equipo, nada complicado que aprender, y lo puede hacer justo donde está. Solamente dar un paso afuera. 4. Es fácil de Integrar. Haga mandados, pasee el perro, de una caminata a la hora de comer al mediodía, póngase al día con amigos o pase tiempo con personas queridas durante un paseo de noche, o abrigue a sus hijos y salgan a caminar toda la familia.
