2 La familia española Antes de leer el texto, señala si las siguientes afirmaciones son poco o muy frecuentes en España: Creo que esta situación es Un chico de 26 años que vive con sus padres Una mujer que trabaja fuera de casa Una familia con cuatro hijos pequeños Una persona divorciada Un hombre que vive solo Muy frecuente Poco frecuente Lee el siguiente texto: Así somos En una familia española de finales del siglo XX, y también en las familias europeas, hay muy pocos niños. La tasa de natalidad de España es muy baja (1,2 hijos por mujer). Sin embargo, los hijos no se van de casa pronto. Su salida se retrasa cada vez más porque las viviendas son caras y el paro entre jóvenes es muy alto. Lo normal es que no formen una pareja estable hasta los 27 años. En comparación con otras sociedades europeas, en las familias españolas hay pocos divorcios (0,5 por mil), quizá porque la ley de divorcio sólo tiene veinte años. No es muy alto tampoco el número de nacimientos fuera del matrimonio en España ni en otros países mediterráneos. Algunos hombres y mujeres viven solos (3% y 6% respectivamente), pero normalmente las personas solteras conviven con sus padres. Todavía hay bastantes familias (un 9 por ciento) en las que conviven tres generaciones: padres, hijos y abuelos. Otro cambio importante es que actualmente casi el 50% de las mujeres españolas entre 15 y 64 años trabaja fuera de casa. Seguro Contador, Informe sobre la familia española

Reading and responding to a variety of texts written for different purposes, drawn from a range of authentic sources and adapted as necessary. Material will include complex factual and abstract content and questions will target main points, gist and detail. Questions in Spanish to be answered with non-verbal responses or in Spanish (45 marks). Translation into English: a passage of minimum 70 words (10 marks). No access to a dictionary during the assessment Paper 2 : Writing What's assessed Paper 3: Speaking What's assessed One text or one film from the lists in the specification Grammar One sub-theme from Aspects of Hispanic Society and one sub-theme from Artistic Culture in the Hispanic World.

6 How it's assessed Written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes 50 marks 25% of AS Questions How it's assessed Oral exam: minutes 60 marks 30% of AS Questions Translation into Spanish; a passage of minimum 70 words (15 marks). Either one question in Spanish on a set text from a choice of two questions or one question in Spanish on a set film from a choice of two questions (35 marks). All questions will require a critical response to aspects such as plot, characterisation, imagery or other stylistic features as appropriate to the work studied. Discussion of two sub-themes (6 7 minutes on each) with the discussion based on a stimulus card for each sub-theme. The student studies the cards for 15 minutes before the test begins. No access to a dictionary during the assessment or during the preparation time. Students may take the assessment only once before certification. No access to texts or films, or to a dictionary, during the assessment. Students are advised to write approximately 250 words for the essay.

7 Supporting your progress You will have access to a Language assistant on a weekly basis to support your speaking skills. Lunchtime workshops are available for grammar, conversation and general support for essay-writing skills, and you are welcome to attend any of them. Students who attend workshop tend to resolve any difficulties more quickly, and are more confident. We hope to be able to offer an excellent opportunity to take part in a study trip to Mexico in spring 2017 Our Expectations of you: Arrive on time for every lesson, and be ready to start work immediately. Have your AQA Spanish for A level e-book with you. Bring the correct equipment: pens, highlighters, file paper, diary, folder and your homework to every lesson. Complete your independent work your listening and reading - each week.

8 Consult the Scheme of Work to make sure that you are up-to-date with your independent work, and to catch up with any work missed through absence. Ensure that your homework is completed and handed in on time. You should spend three hours outside lessons on homework. You will be required to make corrections and keep a record of your assessed work. There will be a vocabulary test every week. Use Quizlet to prepare for it. Keep a well- organised file with all your work. We will expect you to be active in trying to improve the standard of your work: Let your teacher know of any difficulties you may be having. Attend workshop sessions to reinforce grammar, essay- writing or any other skills. Access your college daily: your teachers will use it to communicate with you. You should access online sites to practise grammar exercises. Speak Spanish to your teachers at all times, and whenever you can!

Present your work in the form of a colourful poster, it must be written in Spanish. Do not copy and paste. 3. Ejercicio de gramática Ir de tapas en Gran Bretaña: Lo que opinan los clientes Hay en Gran Bretaña cada vez más restaurantes donde se sirven tapas. Tres españoles que viven en el Reino Unido cuentan sus experiencias en una página Web. La semana pasada fuimos a comer mi novia y yo a La Tasca sin haber reservado. Tuvimos que esperar durante una hora hasta que hubiese una mesa libre. El camarero- que no era hispanohablante, claro se equivocó de platos y no nos llevó lo que habíamos pedido. La tarde fue desastrosa! En definitiva, no volveré a La Tasca Miguel Comimos en La casa de la paella hace unos días, tres amigas inglesas y yo. El camarero cuidó mucho de nosotros. Habló con nosotros en castellano, aunque era inglés. La comida fue excelente. Cuando recibí la cuenta, qué sorpresa! No tuvimos que pagar más de 20 euros. Y otra sorpresa las bebidas fueron gratis! Volví anoche con mi novio: fue aún mejor que la primera vez. Os recomiendo La casa de la paella a todos! Estoy segura que os encantará. Mariana Reservé una mesa en La Tapas para las seis y media, a la hora de salir de la oficina. Nos sentamos enseguida, escogimos varias tapas, claro, pues í nada! Después de esperar más de una hora, perdimos la paciencia y decidimos ir a otro restaurante. 11 Study Visit 2017 The Spanish department will be offering a twoweek study visit to the south-east of Mexico. The students will attend a language school during the morning from Monday to Friday over the two week period. Students will stay in pairs in local homes and full board is provided. There will be cultural trips arranged for the afternoon and there will also be an opportunity to get to know Mexican students of a similar age; this will be a great opportunity to experience a cultural exchange. The trip is open to all students on the A2 and AS courses but is limited to 40 students. If there are not enough students to visit Mexico, the department will offer an alternative visit to Spain for one week, with the same the set up and arrangements as mentioned above.
