1 Preterite Irregular Verbs There are four very important verbs that are irregular in the preterite tense (simple past tense), ie, they don't follow the same rules and pattern as all the regular Spanish verbs. Two of these verbs have exactly the same forms!; ir ( to go) ser (to be) fui fui fuiste fuiste fue fue fuimos fuimos fuisteis fuisteis fueron fueron You will have determine the meaning by context : Ludo fue al cine anoche.

3 We saw you last night. As well as these important four verbs there are also groups of irregular verbs that follow different irregular patterns. Some irregular verbs have a -u change in the stem. tener (to have) estar (to be) poder (to be able) poner (to put) tuve estuve puse pude tuviste estuviste pusiste pudiste tuvo estuvo puso pudo tuvimos estuvimos pusimos pudimos tuvisteis estuvisteis pusisteis pudisteis tuvieron estuvieron pusieron pudieron Other verbs in this group are ; andar (anduv...), haber (hub...) and saber (sup...) Some irregular verbs have a -i change in the stem.
