2 Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 5, 2014 Message from Our Pastor My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes, Calling all Peruvians! Really everyone with a devotion to the Lord of the Miracles. The Lord of the Miracles is the devotion centered around the image of our crucified Lord painted on the wall of a hut near Lima. The image stayed on the wall despite several attempts to erase it. As a result of this, and miraculous interventions experienced by those who prayed at the wall, devotion to the image rose until it became what is today the most widely venerated image in the city of Lima. The heart of the celebration is one of the largest processions to take place every year in the Americas, where tens of thousands of the faithful dress in purple tunics, singing hymns and praying as they accompany the image. October is generally the month for celebrations to honor our Lord of the Miracles and to seek his help and protection. These celebrations culminate around the principal feast day of October 28 th. At Our Lady of Lourdes we will celebrate the feast of the Lord of the Miracles on Sunday, October 26 th at the 1:30 pm Mass. We invite everyone to join us and to vest in their traditional costume. This year, however, there will not be a procession following the Mass. That is where you can help. Our Hermandad de Nuestro Señor de los Milagros is having some difficulty in organizing itself and our annual procession. While our parish groups and ministries are open to all, it is required that their leadership consists of registered parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes. Our Hermandad is in need of parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes who are also members of the Hermandad to come forward and offer to serve on the leadership team. If you are able and interested please let me know (msgr@ololourdes.org) and I will forward your information to them. If you are not a member of the Hermandad, you can still help. In case it takes a while for the Hermandad to get things in order it would be helpful to have a team of parishioners who are willing to work on the planning and implementation of the Feast and Procession for next October. If you have a devotion to the Lord of the Miracles this would be a beautiful way to give thanks to the Lord. Again, just let me know if you are interested and I will put you in touch with the parish Liturgy Committee. Finally, I invite you to take advantage of our newly renovated chapel of the Lord of the Miracles. The chapel is open throughout the day and when closed one can visit from the bench outside the main window. This chapel, together with the Adoration Chapel and the Grotto, makes Our Lady of Lourdes a place of intimate prayer, petition, and conversion all day, every day. God bless. Msgr. Matthew 21:43 Mensaje de Nuestro Párroco Mi Querida Familia de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, Llamando a todos los peruanos! - Realmente a todos con una devoción al Señor de los Milagros. El Señor de los Milagros es la devoción en torno a la imagen de nuestro Señor crucificado pintada en la pared de una choza cerca de Lima. La imagen permaneció en la pared a pesar de varios intentos de borrarla. Como resultado de esto y las intervenciones milagrosas experimentadas por las personas que oraban en la imagen de la pared, la devoción comenzó hasta que se convirtió en lo que hoy es la imagen más venerada en la ciudad de Lima. El corazón de la celebración es una de las más grandes procesiones que ocurren cada año en las Américas, donde decenas de miles de fieles se visten con hábitos morados, cantan himnos y rezan acompañando a la imagen. Octubre es generalmente el mes de celebraciones en honor a nuestro Señor de los Milagros y de buscar su ayuda y protección. Estas celebraciones culminan alrededor del día de la fiesta principal, el 28 de octubre. En Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, celebraremos la fiesta del Señor de los Milagros el domingo 26 de octubre en la Misa de 1:30 pm. Invitamos a todos a unirse a nosotros y vestirse en su traje tradicional. Este año, sin embargo, no habrá una procesión después de la Misa. Ahí es donde usted puede ayudar. Nuestra Hermandad de Nuestro Señor de los Milagros está teniendo algunas dificultades para organizarse y organizar nuestra procesión anual.
